Zat Stargate Rewatch: SG-1 Season Nine Nominations

    Nominations, Please!

There are special instructions about this month's nominations, so please read carefully ...

With the cast changes the categories are a bit different this month! We've added "Best Moment" categories for Cameron Mitchell and Vala Mal Doran. I've left General Landry off the list, but you may still nominate a "Best Landry Moment" -- if we get enough nominations from enthusiastic Landry supporters, it will be on the final ballot.

We're giving Vala her own "Best Moment" category this month, despite the fact that Claudia was technically a guest star, because she appears in eight episodes and has such a big role (and she'll become a regular in Season Ten). Because of this, and because Claudia won Best Guest Star in the Season Eight Awards, she won't be eligible for that category this month.

Also note that, with the downfall of the Goa'uld in Season Eight, the "Best Goa'uld Villain" category has changed to "Best Villain." We're looking for individual characters (e.g. the Docent), not races (e.g. the Ori). If you want to nominate a particular Prior, for example, please be specific. Nominations for races should go under "Best Alien Race" to be counted.

We'll take nominations in this thread for the first half of the month, and then unveil the award ballot for voting on the GateWorld home page the second half of the month. At the end of April, we'll announce the winners to wrap up this season of the Stargate fan community Rewatch project.

    Season One Award Winners
    Season Two Award Winners
    Season Three Award Winners
    Season Four Award Winners
    Season Five Award Winners
    Season Six Award Winners
    Season Seven Award Winners
    Season Eight Award Winners

    The Categories:
(Remember, keep your noms limited to Season Nine only!)

    • Best Episode (Season Nine)
    • Best Cameron Moment
    • Best Daniel Moment
    • Best Sam Moment
    • Best Teal'c Moment
    • Best Vala Moment
    • Best Team Moment
    • Best Alien Race
    • Best Villain
    • Coolest Technology
    • Best Guest Star (based on one specific episode)

(You can also suggest new categories for next month's Season Ten Awards.) Remember that the best alien race, villain, and technology you nominate don't have to be new to the show in Season Nine, but they do have to make an appearance in Season Nine!

    Here's How to Nominate:

There's a poll above for the first category, Best Episode. You may vote for up to THREE episodes. (If you vote for any more, we'll have to disqualify all your votes.) You must use the poll for your "Best Episode" nominations to be counted (don't just post them below). Remember, this is just the nomination stage. The top vote-getters will square off in the official poll.

For all other categories, just post below. Two rules:

Please specify the episode! ("That one where Teal'c says 'Indeed'" won't be counted.)

One nomination per category per person, please! So think about it, watch some episodes, and come back and post. (If we detect fake "sock" accounts stuffing the nominations box, ALL your noms will be disqualified.)

The final ballot will include those with the most nominations, so don't skip over something because someone else already posted it. Nominate what you think is the best of the best!

Nominations will close on or around Friday, April 20. Thanks!

    ADD IN BEST LANDRY MOMENT!!!
    Best Episode- Ripple Effect
Best Cameron moment- Cameron leading the argument against SG-1 that he looks like more of a thief/bad guy and should be the one to go in and pose to learn about the corn from the Lucian Alliance, and making fun of Daniel and Sam! (off the grid)
Best Daniel moment- (pretty much anytime with Vala but…) With meeting the Doci and talking to the Ori through Doci, Daniel keeps a firm stand against the evils of the Ori even after being warned "All will know the Power of the Ori" and warns them that they will fight back. (its also the only time we ever talk right to the Ori other than Adria). (Origin)

(this is my 2nd for anyone who liked this- When he see's Jack return to the SGC for lunch and admits that for the first time since entering the SGC he's actually truly scared of the Ori and what's to come. (part of jack moment to and Jack says they've been up against some powerful bad guys in the past and won) (Origin)

Best Sam Moment- With all the chaos of having 16 other Sam's she still cant figure out how to help them get back to their realities until Alternate Martouf and a alternate evil Sam help her out. (Ripple Effect)
Best Teal'c Moment- After the failure of the brainwashing by Ba'al, Teal'c has no choice but to pretend and when Ba'al orders him to kill Bra'Tac, Cameron Mitchell shoots the guards and Teal'c is able to kill Ba'al (only realising he's another clone) (Stronghold)
Best Vala moment- after being burned to death literraly and resurrected by the Ori, Vala holds on strong and with help from Daniel goes to the Planes of Celestis/City of the Gods of the Ori. (Origin)
Best Landry Moment- When he's yelling at Jack about needing Sam and he turns around and Sam returns to the SGC waiting in front of his door which Jack made him embarrassed for lol. (Beachhead)
Best team Moment- SG-1 along with future team member Vala Mal Doran take off on the Prometheus to stop a Ori Beachhead from turing into a Supergate and unleashing the Ori army onto the Milky Way ultimately leading to a sacrifice by a valuable member of the team. (Beachhead)
Best Alien Race- People of Camelot! (Camelot)
    Best Villain- The Doci (Origin)
    Coolest Technology- The Supergate!
Best Guest Star- Julian Sands as the Doci/Voice of the Ori ascended beings (Origin)

Default Re: Stargate Rewatch: SG-1 Season Nine Nominations

    Best Episode: Beachhead

Best Cam Moment: Collateral Damage - having to relieve the murder he didn't commit, as well as an incident in the Middle East to prove he's not the man responsible.

Best Daniel Moment: All of Origin - trying to understand Origin, and reason with the Priors, though to little avail.

Best Sam Moment: Can't really think of one to be honest...

Best Teal'c Moment: The Fourth Horseman: Convincing Garek to join him on the planet for a nice heart to heart, convincing him that Origin is not the way.

Best Vala Moment: Never a big fan of Vala. As such, i'll go with Beachhead, when she sacrificed herself to save the day. It served to get rid of her for awhile. Plus, it was a great moment of selflessness from an overly selfish character.

Best Team Moment: I feel like there aren't too many stand out team moments in this season, at least none that immediately come to me. Perhaps i'll go with Off The Grid...

Best Alien Race: None really pop into mind. I guess i'll go with Ori...

Best Villain: Ba'al, for any and all appearances. If i have to nominate a specific appearance, which it doesn't say we have to, but i've noticed people always do, it'll be for Ex Deus Machina

    Coolest Technology: Super Gate

Best Guest Star: Robert Picardo in The Scourge. Didn't like the episode on the whole, but he was, as he always is, quite entertaining.

Most Overrated Episode: Ripple Effect - O, that wasn't a category? My bad...

I was thinking the exact same thing. He's also a regular on the show, so why Vala and not him?

Like the moment where he answers Neruses question 'what could possibly compell me to do that?' with 'Hunger' (Beachhead)
Or when he's on the phone with O'Neill about Carter to get there for a mission, when she's actually right outside his office 'Reporting for duty as ordered'. 'You're a very funny man, Jack' (Beachhead)
His 'It was a piece of cake' also remains a nice wordgame (Off the grid)

And there are others, propably more interesting moments, that don't immediatly come to mind. So put in a best Landry moment, please. Thank you.

Beckett Re: Stargate Rewatch: SG-1 Season Nine Nominations

    Best Episode (Season Nine)

Beachhead - A good all round episode that makes use of everyone, and hints at both the past, (The Goa'uld) as well as the future.

    Best GENERAL H LANDRY Moments

    1) A mischievously cheerful Landry greets Lt Colonel Mitchell, noting he finds the SGC frustratingly good – he has no one to shout at! (Avalon Part 1)

My Actual Nomination - 2) Landry furiously demanding answers from Nerus, when the plan to destory the Supergate goes awry, followed by the pay off at the end - Landry using the threat of starvation to coerce the slimy Goa'uld. (Beachhead)

    3) A Plague incapacitated Landry expresses regret as daughter Dr Lam lamblasts him for the fact his secret military life kept him distant from his family, and how her work has the same effect. (Beau Bridges is exception here, showing Landry's human side without compromising the character.)

    4) A determined General Landry custs through the bureaucratic bluffing by Colonel Chekhov and finds out what the Russians want – and finds the answer is a Daedalus class ship. (Crusade)

    Best Cameron Mitchell Moment

When Mitchell realises he has to push himself through the Sodan training to get through to Lord Haikon and Jolan, coupled with his frustration at the gruelling and unrelenting nature of Jolan's training. (Babylon)

    Best Daniel Jackson Moment

In spite of all the trouble she has caused – including to him, Daniel tries hard to act as arbiter in defence of Vala to the people she conned on P8X-412, and the following debate on the Ori when the Prior turns up, twisting proceedings. (The Powers That Be)

    Best Sam Carter Moment

Sam realising that its too late – there is nothing she can do as the Supergate activates and The Ori will come through guns blazing. (Camelot) NOTE - Ms Tapping had the flu while doing these spacesuit scenes, - you would never know it!

    Best Teal'c Moment

The look on Teal'c face when he and Daniel greet Alt Universe Dr Fraiser. Both are shocked and pleased, but Teal'c reaction sticks in the head more.

    Best Vala M Doran Moment

Vala desperately tries ot help the people she once wronged using the Go'Auld healing device, even though its taking a toll on her. (The Powers That Be)

    Best Team Moment

The reassembled team prepping to go through the gate to meet Prometheus. Esp Carters “When we spoke last week...” and Mitchell's “We got the band back together” comments. (Beachhead)

    Best Alien Race

The Sodan Warriors. A nice change, showing a group of Jaffa with a different philosophy. Its a shame they did not get the chance to play a part in a later Teal'c story, perhaps with Mitchell.

    Best Villain

The recurring Ori Prior played by Greg Anderson (He was the Ver-Egen village official who gets converted in Origin). Charismatic, dangerous and fanatical, his performances show a consistency and deliberate patience on the part of the Ori, but with a steely resolve underneath. Wonderful stuff!

    Coolest Technology

The Supergate. Although slightly underwhelming in Beachhead for obvious reasons, in Camelot, when it activates we share the same sense of awe and impending horror as Colonel Carter. - The feeling of awe repeats in Ark Of Truth. Also a nice sense of less is more with this piece of tech.

Best Guest Star (based on one specific episode)

Louis Gossett Jr as Gerak, in The Fourth Horseman Part II. - Gerak realises through Teal'c's urging, he has made the wrong choices for the right reasons, and ultimately chooses to save everyone on Earth. Even though he knows he will pay with the ultimate punishment from the Ori.

Converting a human body into energy and sending it millions of light years through a wormhole. Bloody insanity!
Come on, how often do you get the chance to go to an alien planet?

I was a'ready on an alien planet!

    Best Episode (Season Nine)

His war of words with the Ori Prior in ‘The Ties That Bind’

    Best Sam Moment
Sam floating in space watching helplessly as the last ditch efforts to stop the supergate activating fail and the Ori invasion fleet comes through. ‘Camelot’

    Best Teal'c Moment
Talking with Gerak on Chulak at the site of a battle for freedom, reminding him of their fight for freedom and how it will be lost if he continues to believe the Ori will give him the peace and enlightenment he sought. ‘The Fourth Horseman Pt 2’

    Best Vala Moment
Taking the cargo ship and risking her life to use it to stop the final piece of the supergate being put into place. ‘Beachhead’

    Best Episode
    Ripple effect

    Best Cameron Moment
When Teal'c goes missing, a rescue mission is put up. Mitchell leaves his memories to a dying friend, so he can go help saving Teal'c. During this rescue, he almost goes solo to save Teal'c, taking out a Jaffa blast weapon tower, several Jaffa, gets almost captured when tryint to activate the rings and then takes out very Jaffa he encounters on the Alkesh. (Stronghold)

    Best Daniel Moment
Daniel puts his best into proving that, allthough very powerfull, the Ori are not gods. They only have a better understanding how everything works, they have technology. When the complete village is threatened to be killed by a plague, Daniel asks the prior to leave this people be. They need not to die, to proove him wrong. (The Powers that Be)

    Best Sam Moment
When General Landry enters a room full of different reality Carters, looking for Col. Carter, all the Carters react. He then specifies he's looking for his Carter. This brings a little smile to our Carter.(Ripple Effect)

    Best Teal'c Moment
After trying to put Gerak in a bad daylight and failing because Gerak did apprehend Ba'al, Teal'c returns to the SGC, only to learn Ba'al had access to cloning technology. When Mitchell suggests that he reports this to the council, Teal'c declines. Gerak has fought hard for a victory, and to tell them now would not be the right thing to do. (Ex Deus Machina)

    Best Vala Moment
A pregnant Vala remains chained during three days without water. Without knowing, she's submitted to a test by the village bar tender to proove her worthiness, not to the Ori, but to the resistance movement. (Crusade)

    Best Landry Moment
With Daniel Jackson otherwise occupied, Landry faces Col. Chekov and the Chinese representative for the treaty about the use of the Stargate.
Aggravated by Chekov's posturing, Landry cuts to the chase. He realises very well that the Russions don't speek their mind. He discovers the new 304, a Daedalus-class ship nearing completion, will buy Russian support of the status quo in treaty renegotiations. In fact, he believes that the Russians have no intention of restarting a gate program; backed by the Chinese, they used the threat to secure their own ship. (Crusade)

    Best Team Moment
The moment after a meeting wiht Gen. Landry where Cameron gives the SG-1 badges to Carter en Daniel. He put the band back together! (Ex Deus Machina)

    Best Alien Race
    The Sodan (Babylon)

    Best Villain
President Nadal of the Rand Protectorate (Ethon)

    Coolest Technology
    The Odyssey

    Best Guest Star

    Best Episode: Camelot

Best Sam Moment: Camelot...floating in space (though I loved her in Arthurs mantle too. )

Best Daniel Moment: Avalon pt 2...trying but failing to save Vala when she was being burned alive - beautiful scene even if it was somewhat horrific to watch.

Best Teal'c Moment: Stronghold...faking being brainwashed.

Best Cameron Moment: Collateral Damage...simply because I enjoyed watching Ben Browder play this part.

Best Vala Moment: Avalon pt 2...being burned alive & then being brought back from the dead.

Best Team Moment: Camelot...fighting the Ori together

    Best Alien Race: The Ori

Best Villain: Ba'al...just coz I think he's delicious.

    Coolest Technology: The SuperGate

Best Guest Star: Teryl Rothery...coz I adore her.

Btw, I'm listing Sam above Cam when I do my votes coz she was here first...not meaning to be prejudiced against Cam coz I do like him but Sam, Daniel & Teal'c should be listed above Cam & Vala IMHO.

Default Re: Stargate Rewatch: SG-1 Season Nine Nominations

Hello everyone, I joined yesterday ONLY to participate to this pole^^ great idea, I wish I had heard of it before.. I'm not a native english speaker and I hope you'll understand my post, cheers!

Best Episode: Although I enjoyed, as a fan^^ and for obvious reasons the episode "ripple effect", it's not according to me the best episode in terms of quality.. I loved and will therefore give my vote to "Origin" especially for the performance of the priors (perfect starkness) and Julian Sands, as the Doci, who gave, thanks to his natural majesty, the tone of greatness required to introduce properly Origin and the Ori to the audience.

Best Cameron Moment: In "Babylon", at this point we don't really know Mitchell's personality so well, and I remember thinking when I first watched the episode that this guy was surprisingly adaptable and genuine during his training with the Sodans..ok, I thought, here's the military that replaces O'Neill, as a soldier, he's got a strong physical endurance and doesn't question himself too much..

Best Daniel Moment: I thought Daniel's character was a bit 'flat' in this season in spite of his role in "Avalon" and "Origin" and maybe is it because of Michael Shanks's acting? that I found a bit easy and warmed over.. but still, I love Daniel of course, his meeting with the Doci in "Origin" was the most interesting.

Best Sam Moment: like many, and I'll quote Krisz, "Sam floating in space watching helplessly as the last ditch efforts to stop the supergate activating fail and the Ori invasion fleet comes through. ‘Camelot’"..I know it's difficult to pack everything in only 45minutes, but I would have loved to feel more of her solitude and despair through her point of view.. brilliant dramatic scene!

Best Teal'c Moment: I really liked Teal'c trying to show off his 'extensive' knowledge of Earth culture.. loved the whole conversation about Vala being impregnated without copulation and its famous Tealc's quote:"Dark Vader" but what cracked me up the most was when he confirms it to Vala's "really?" saying "hm" so confidently^^ the Easter Bunny moment was funny as well, but as a whole scene I'll vote for the bit in "Crusade"

Best Vala Moment: Like Vala a lot, the actress too.. her return when she's pregnant isn't her best acting though.. In "the powers that be", I loved Vala impersonating Qetesh so shamelessly^^ especially when she's watching the 'theatre perfomance" of her poor fooled subjects..hahaha, that's gold

Best Team Moment: like some others, I was so happy when the team is back together as sg1 in "ex deus machina".. But I'll go for the pregnancy conversation in "Crusade" ..ok, Daniel's not here but somehow he is (funny bits in the camera)

Best Alien Race: The proud Sodan warriors, nice sense of Ethic when they turned down the prior's offer of ascension..

Best Villain: difficult choice here..the Doci was magnificient, the Priors are cool too so devoted and (+literally) blinded by their religion but I'll vote fo BAAL, clever, realist, adaptable and charming!!

Coolest Technology: Arthur's Mantle!!.. very handy technology and also funny..'Why don't they just phase through the floor?' The supergate was also surely very impressive..

Best Guest Star: another difficult choice cos there are so many really good actors!! loved Cameron Bright, he made a great perfomance as Orlin, so adorable. Wow, Denethor was in the show! John Noble's performance wasn't his best but still..Denethor!! Obviously I'm a great fan of Julian Sands, plus his contribution to set the tone as the Doci was crucial to the show according to me.. but Wallace Shawn as Arlos in "the ties that bind" was TERRIFIC, the way he told his passionate and carnal love experience with Vala is just pitiful and deliciously perverse
