We Stand United (Season 8 AU)

    We Stand United (Stargate AU)
This is an AU stargate from the start of season eight onwards. It focuses on the combined efforts of many races of the milky way in an attempt to over through the Goa’uld, though I do have other arcs planned...
(that may or may not include the Aschen....)
Atlantis will only see the changes at the end of the first ‘season’

Two days post New Order part 2

The halls of the SGC were for once quiet, the all too often felt fear of world ending peril was absent today and the base was quiet – no experiments had exploded in the last month! The only exiting thing going on was a large group of people on a trip through the stargate to the Beta site for a not so classified weapons test/demonstration; depending on who you asked. Among the scientists was Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter and beside her was Brigadier General Jack O’Neill who was chatting quietly with his former teammate about jello and how he hoped the beta sites was as good as the SGCs since they might be there a while. Behind the pair were Dr. Daniel Jackson and Teal’c, former First Prime of Apophis and now one of the leaders of the Jaffa rebellion. Sam, Daniel and Teal’c were the current SG-1, Stargate commands finest SG team and the most decorated military unit in recorded history, and Jack had been their leader since the beginning now however he was promoted to a one star general and given command of the SGC after the previous commander, Dr. Elizabeth Weir, had left to go on the Atlantis mission. The larger group that SG-1 and Jack were moving with was a large group of scientists, diplomats escorted by four SG teams: SG-3, SG-117, SG-74 and SG-1. All the SG teams besides SG-1 were teams of four muscular and decidedly male marines. All of the SG teams that were selected to go were equipped with what was to become the standard issue weapon for all SG teams expected to see combat – a futuristic looking, medium length rifle that contained a railgun that fired ‘smart’ bullets of a sort that were many time smaller than a normal bullet, these bullets were designed to penetrate deep into their target and explode a microscopic naqudah/potassium warhead that exploded the target into a fine red mist.

These deadly devices were going to be demonstrated by SG-3 with a talk by Sam beforehand to try and explain, in somewhat simple terms, how they worked. The pretence of them still being experimental was a publicity stunt by the IOA, they had already handed out hundreds to the Atlantis expedition, this event was aimed boost confidence and the whole thing would be broadcast live to millions; from another world. TV channels had jumped at the chance to broadcast live from a different planet and so the journalists outnumbered everyone else by at least three to one. Jack was sharply reminded that the whole world knew about the SGC now, thanks to Anubis’s failed attack on Earth.

    \/flashback/\

Henry Hayes was referred to by some as the most powerful man in the world others believed that some of the men looking to him for leadership over secure subspace communications. At the present moment Henry Hayes felt as powerful as a child waiting to be rescued by its parent’s .He was the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth and he could only wait for his country to be rescued by a band of soldiers, scientists and rebels. It all came down to SG-1. Again. The Henry Hayes of his campaing days would have laughed at you if you’d told him that he would know about a job harder than being president of the United States but now he was constantly in awe of that team of four who had saved Earth form total destruction so many times he’d lost count. Hayes saw the British Prime Minster slowly steeled himself as his mouth opend “ I think we should launch all of them Henry. There’s no point hiding the stargate program after today and SG-1 may not get back in time.” The Russian president looked at them all with a knowing glance while his French and Chinese counterparts looked bewildered.
“The enhanced surface to orbit missiles are our last resort David. You know that as well as I-” Hayes was cut off by an angry British Prime Minister “Goddammit Hayes! THIS A ****ING LAST RESORT! We are up against the wall and we have exactly ONE ship that’s not even a quarter of the size of a Goa’uld mothership! We need those missiles! Sure we may not kill all of them but I for one am not going to take this jumped up parasite with delusions of godhood trying to take over my world lying down! We need to launch those missiles and soon or else everyone left on this rock will be speaking Goa’uld!” The British Prime Minister had never been one to shout or even get angry at his political opponents; he had always projected an aura of clam a sort of unbreakable patience.
“I.. You’ve convinced me David” The president of the United Sates drew a deep breath and calmed himself before he ordered for the first time in over fifty years the launch of a nuclear weapon in anger on his planet. All across the world silos opened, submarines surfaced and flooded the silos and the nations of Earth launched over a thousand nuclear missiles enhanced to well over a thousand time their original strength. It was glorious in a morbid way; streaks of flame and smoke showed the missiles ascent into the atmosphere and out into to space where they headed towards their targets and impacted against the shields of the Goa’uld motherships and from the surface it seemed as a second sun had momentarily illuminated the world in its destructive light but then it was snuffed out and the people of Earth could see destruction wrought upon Anubis’s fleet.
Over half of his motherships were destroyed and several others were damaged beyond repair yet his command ship and a good portion of his fleet were intact. They had failed and Anubis had almost won. Now their only hope was SG-1 and whatever Jack O’Neill had led them off to found.

    \/ End /\

Jack had heard that from the President after the ceremony for SG-1 and Bra’tac held a week after the ceremony for the dead – they did not have names or numbers yet but it was looking bad; while Anubis had not started bombarding cites until just before the Ancient weapon fired but he had nearly wiped Beijing off the map.

The group that was to attend the demonstration came to the active Stargate and stood quietly for a moment, gazing up at the event horizon of the wormhole the sheer impossibility of it all stunning them into silence – they had read briefings and such but never anything like this. They overcame their wonder and steeped forward onto another world. Just as Jack O’Neill was to step through the gate he and SG-1 disappeared in a flash of light.

Much creative thinkling involved; I just wanna point out that the SG-1 can't get decorated so much as they deserve b/c to do so would be to invite speculation on their top-secret activities, so it may be not so liely. Unless you're talking sam and ajck's miltitary decorations alone. Daniel jackson's a civilan so he can't receive any military awards.

The Stargate was disclosed after the alternate version of 'lost city'. SG1 got a whole heap of medals thrown at them afterwards.

SG-1 and General Jack O’Neill materialised in Thor’s ship, an O’Neill class warship. The room they found themselves in appeared to be the Asgard version of a conference room with a long table in the centre of the room with larger versions of Asgard style chairs, clearly designed for humans. In these chairs sat some of the most important people on the planet, the leaders of all the Stargate nations - The USA, China, Russia, Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Canada and a horde of other nations; mostly European.

SG-1 gave a quick greeting to the President and turned to face Thor, who was seated at the head of the table nearest to them and almost as one they asked
“You didn’t abduct all of them did you Thor?” Jack was first though.
“I did not O’Neill; I did it to you for, as you might say, old times sake.” Thor said, his face not changing the whole sentence but as he finished he gave a small, sly smile.
“I have called you all here today because the Asgard want to renegotiate your inclusion of the protected planets treaty. We have made great strides in the war against the replicators and have gained some breathing room – we as a race will not last if certain problems are not addressed. Unfortunately the Asgard high council has decided to suspend operations here in the Milky Way indefinitely to concentrate on solving our issues in our home galaxy. I however have been given leave to upgrade your technology so that Earth may uphold the Protected Planets treaty in our stead.” The looks of awe, excitement and incredulity on the faces of everyone except Carter were priceless and she had a grin wider than the Grand Canyon on her face.

“However” Thro continued “I have persuaded the Asgard High Council that this may take several years. I have already consulted with Samantha Carter as to which technologies and research projects may be improved. I found several very innovative ideas that I will, with your permission, send back to my race. I have provided a detailed summary of the improvements. I have also provided the location of a race that will be willing to help you fight the Goa’uld. They are a race of humans that began as a cloned copy of the later Roman Republic that were transported to a planet on a closed gate network; they quickly defeated several invasions and now occupy twelve planets with a fleet of FTL warships that numbers in thousands. If there are no objections I will beam everyone but SG-1 back down and begin my work.” The politicians didn’t even deliberate in accepting the offer and being beamed back down to Earth.

Thor swung his ship into Earth orbit and over to Earths main shipyards – Area 51. The desert parted to reveal a massive shipyard, large enough to build multiple Daedalus class spaceships. Thor’s much larger ship was still too large for the shipyards though, as it was more than ten times longer than the still unfinished Daedalus. The staff of the facility had already left so Thor could use the Asgard transporter aboard his ship to change the facility – and the three ships being built there.

The shipyards were changed a great deal – they now had an industrial transporter that could either rearrange elements into ships or use energy to create matter. This required a truly insane amount of energy and the base had a new neutrino-ion reactor to provide the necessary power. It would take roughly three weeks for a ship to be built using energy to matter conversion and training the crew would take longer.

The ships themselves were changed as the upgraded design carried a fair bit more firepower and had a main neutrino-ion reactors and secondary naquadah generators. Carter had gone to town on the new features with a new point defence network of light railguns, the miniature missiles from the F-302 upgrade and relatively low powered lasers, that is to say they were not capable of nuclear bomb like feats of destruction. The 304 now sported four Ionic plasma cannons, weapons with the ability to degrade ancient derived shields and far more power than a Goa’uld or even Ancient plasma cannon as they were a hybrid of Tollan, Asgard, Ancient and home-grown Earth technology. The placement of these cannons, when combined with the superior manoeuvrability of the 304 class spaceships compared to a Ha’tak meant that Earths top of the line warships could almost always fire all four of there cannons at an enemy – enough firepower to destroy your typical Ha’tak in a single volley.

The missile systems had none gone unloved with the missiles themselves receiving enhanced engines and basic shields. The 304 also had several heavy railguns that could load nuclear ordnance in fixed positions between her hangar bays and the rest of the ship. These railguns were a good alpha strike weapon but took roughly thirty seconds to reload compared to the five second recharge of the Ionic plasma cannons.

The F-302 was not unchanged either with new engines and powerplant – both Asgard tech adapted by humans. The F-302 had it’s hyperspace capability back and now sported shields and it former anti-fighter missiles were replaced with Naquadah /Potassium warheads attached to shield modulating missiles. It’s railguns fired projectiles similar to new personal scale railguns – tiny ‘smart’ trinium bullets with a tiny Naquadah/Potassium warhead – however these were larger and fired faster.

Earth had three crews in training at the moment but only one was anywhere near ready and they were already assigned to the Daedalus. The first of Earth’s new class of Battlecruisers was almost ready for action.

Looks like you'll have a lot of exposition going on, what with Earth being granted all of these technologies . I found myself wondering about all that radioactive fallout, however...perhaps the Asgard would help with that first? The only real nitpick I have is a thousand-strong navy fielded by a new power. While it is expected that advanced societies and large militaries lurk on all throughout the vast Milky Way, I think it throws away a good story to simply have the Asgard stumble upon them. With the upgraded ship of the Tau'ri and the Asgard mustering what they have left, there's no real reason to toss in a third power to act as an immediate ally. I guess what I'm trying to say is, think Federation-Klingon type of a relationship at the beginning (frenemies?). I highly doubt a strong military, having fended off numerous invasions and having built an interstellar empire, would immediately welcome the Tau'ri and Asgard.

Unless, of course, you were already moving in that direction, in which case I'll shut up now.

“Lower our speed, bring up shields and begin to charge weapons. I want a full salvo of mk. eight missiles ready to fire as soon as we drop out of hyperspace.” Colonel Caldwell ordered, his new crew springing in to action as the Daedalus prepared to drop out of hyperspace. They were lowering their speed so they could come out of hyperspace ready for battle.
“Sensors do you have a lock on those Ha’taks?” Caldwell asked
“Yes sir; we have them on the Asgard sensors.”
“We are approaching our drop-out point. Weapons are charged and ready.” Major Marks reported.
“Prepare to fire as soon as we drop out of hyperspace.” Caldwell knew that Marks was always prepared to fire but the order was more for the other weapons staff that manned the main batteries and it was relayed over the ships internal com.

The Daedalus dropped out of hyperspace and facing it were three Ha’taks, designated as HA,HB and HC on the Daedalus’s tactical screen. In an instant the Ha’tak nearest the Daedalus lost its shields as the Daedalus fired the first two of her heavy railguns. They were visible only as a flash of light that seemed impossibly quick and then they had brought down the shields of the first Ha’tak. The next two fired and smashed into the Ha’taks unprotected trinium/naquadah hull. The naquadah strained to absorb the energy of the impact and the nuclear detonations that followed. The valiant efforts of the Ha’taks naquadah hull were in vain however as the Ha’tak died in a fiery explosion that sent bits of debris into the shields of the second Ha’tak.

At the same time as the railguns had fire the Daedalus’s main energy armament, her ionic plasma cannons, swung on their turrets to face the third Ha’tak and balls of blue-green energy formed at the tips of the weapons barrels and in just under a second they finished forming and released eight long bolts of blue-green plasma wrapped in a magnetic field charged with ions. These deadly bolts impacted the third Ha’taks shields and if it could be seen in ultra slow motion an observer would see blue-green energy spread across the golden shield and as the fifth bolt impacted the shield it finally failed and the subsequent three bolts impacted the ships hull. The hull just barely held back the titanic energy of the first bolt and the subsequent two punched straight through and exploded inside the main pyramid just after the death of the first the third Ha’tak was completely annihilated.

The Daedalus’s missiles left its tubes after its main guns had fired and a salvo of five mk. eight missiles, equipped with Earths new shield modulators – an upsized version of the technology first developed for the X-302. The missiles were shielded and carried a one gigaton warhead – ten times as powerful as the largest nuclear bomb ever made on Earth before the Stargate program and in package far smaller. The deadly missiles flung themselves form their launchers sped towards the second Ha’tak, activating their shield modulators as they approached the Ha’tak. They slammed into the ancient enhanced shield of an Anubis era Ha’tak and detonated in a futile, yet still massive, explosion.

Colonel Caldwell orderd evasive action and the Daedalus speed up towards the Ha’tak which had tried to get above them, so theyn direct all of their weapons onto the Daedalus instead of just a third that they would be able to fire if the Ha’tak was roughly equal to them vertically. Caldwell’s ship swung around and charged her cannons as she fired yet another missile salvo, smashing her missiles into the Ha’tak’s shields yet again for little result.. The Ha’tak opened fire and bolts of golden plasma slammed into the Daedalus’s Asgard designed shields.
“Shields at ninety percent! That Ha’tak has a naquadriah reactor!” The sensor officer shouted and Caldwell knew he was in for a tough fight.

The Daedalus swung around the Ha’tak and fired all eight of its ionic plasma cannons and the bolts of blue-green energy discoloured the golden shield but it held strong. The Ha’tak continued to fire but the Daedalus had manoeuvred so that they could only fire with less than a third of their weapons – it was all that saved the Earth ship from destruction at the hands of the super Ha’tak.

As the Daedalus swung around the Ha’tak and prepared to fire another salvo from her cannons over thirty hyperspace ruptures formed and out came a fleet of Ha’taks that immediately opened fire on both ships.

“Get us out of here! Go to hyperspace!” Caldwell roared and the Daedalus sped into hyperspace just before her shields failed. The super Ha’tak exploded in a massive fireball as its naquadriah reactor was breached by a stray plasma bolt.

The simulation ended and the Daedalus’s tactical screens returned to their normal position – in low Earth orbit. They hadn’t actually fired any weapons but the simulations were designed to teach his crew – and him- how to control Earth’s newest battlecruiser. They had done well and that super Ha’tak was something they were unlikely to run into out there – the Goa’uld had abandoned naqudriah research long ago yet it still payed to be prepared for the worst and that fleet of Ha’taks had been downright unfair. He supposed that was the point though. They had a joint sim with the crew of the newly upgraded Prometheus – she had been refitted with new weapons, shields etc and a new command and control centre for group operations. Nobody wanted to say fleet as that would be far to naval for the US air force.

The Daedalus would be swinging by the main system of that Roman civilisation for some demonstrations and to pick up SG-1 for their visit to Herberdia. They were in high demand these days – all that fame made them good for diplomacy and they were rumoured to be annoyed at being temporarily reassigned to diplomacy for the time being. They would be back out in the wild regions of the galaxy as soon as they finished up on Herberdia though.

Their will be some definite social conflicts between them - they have very different values etc.... But perhaps the Goa'uld are wonderning where all those new people with advanced weapons are coming from
