Most TV shows these days have a short first season, especially if it's an expensive science-fiction series. Even Star Trek: Voyager had a short first season of 16 episodes back in the day when 26 episodes per season was the norm. It's only unusual to me when subsequent seasons are also short.

sadly i dont think it will be renewed but then i always seem to guess wrong for instance i was so convinced fringe wouldnt get a season 4 but it did.
