    Season Two Casting Changes/Additions

Just what it says it is. Who's joining the show, who might be recast.

No untagged spoilers beyond book/season one please.

Example: If Arya is recast to show that the character has grown or years have passed, fine. If she's recast because the actress didn't want to sign up for only a few episodes because her character was getting killed off, don't tell us. Let folks find out when the episode airs.

casting rumours abound that 3 majors actors, including one off Camelot have been cast. The Camelot alumni seems to be heavily hinted to be James Purefoy.

Hmm. I hope one of them IS Eva Green.
      Spoiler:
(Eva Green as Asha and Claire Forlani as Mel, perhaps? then again, alumnus/i does hint at the male gender...that or they didn't bother w/ using alumna/ae...then again, alumni could mean both genders...bah. )

        gott,

I think Eva Green is too curvy to do a good Asha.

              Maester Cressen cast?

GRRM said (and the spoiler tags actually contain a spoiler if you haven't read the rest of the books yet and can figure out the clue)
              Spoiler:
His fate is one that Derek Jacobi has tasted twice.

He knew Indiana Jones, has hung with droids and jedi, thrice contended for a Larry, winning once. He's been a knight (often), an archbishop (twice), a dean, a priest, a doctor.
Ian McDiarmid is my guess - he fits the Larry's clue (won in '82, nominated in '83 and '91), was in the Young Indy thing and Star Wars. Fantastic if it is him!

It was for Cressen, but GRRM said it's Oliver Ford Davies.. Great choice!

I'm delighted by the choices for Melisandre and Davos, they both look perfect. I saw Carice in Black Book and Valkyrie, and she was very impressive. The guy they've got for Stannis, I'm currently unsure about. He looks a bit "soft" for the role, but then I've never seen him in anything before so I am trying to reserve judgment.

I trust the casting producers on this show, they got season 1 damn near perfect. Alfie Allen as Theon was quite a long way from what I pictured in the books, but he pulled off the arrogance quite well.

Renaming Asha to "Yara" is a terrible idea.

Yea, I mean if the audience has managed to remain relatively clear on the myriad of characters, houses and relationships that exist up until this point, I don't think two different characters named Asha and Osha would have made much of a difference when it comes to confusion.

The names do sound similar, but I don't think that the audience will mix them up. If you go by the logic of the name confusion, the you could say that Yara almost sounds like Arya...

Yea, exactly. I don't think the writers are doing themselves or the audience any favours with this move. Not that I think it will be a big deal or anything though.

I don't really have an issue with the fact that they want to distinguish between Asha/Osha, but my point was that 'Yara' is a ridiculous sounding name that doesn't really fit in with the rest of the names in the world. Why not call her 'Ashara' or 'Tasha', or something that just sounds a bit more sensible?!
