The Seventh Doctor and Ace Come to Titan Comics
Friday, 16 February, 2018 - Reported by Marcus

      http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2018/02...e-come-to.html

      BBC Worldwide Americas
and Titan Comics have announced that the Seventh Doctor is back, in comic form.

This brand-new three-part comic series stars the Seventh Doctor, as played by Sylvester McCoy, alongside classic companion Ace, played by Sophie Aldred.

Released in June 2018 with a double-sized first issue, DOCTOR WHO: THE SEVENTH DOCTOR #1, is written by Seventh Doctor script editor Andrew Cartmel, and writer Ben Aaronovitch who wrote the seventh Doctor stories Remembrance of the Daleks and Battlefield.

Actor Sylvester McCoy starred as the Seventh Doctor from 1987 to 1989 anchoring hundreds of novels and comic strips before regenerating in the 1996 TV movie. As well as this new comic, the Seventh Doctor’s era lives on in a tremendously successful series of audios from Big Finish. McCoy’s portrayal as the Doctor was, at first, a light-hearted eccentric who darkened into a secretive, mysterious, and cunning planner across the course of his tenure.

In Titan Comics’ new mini-series, an unknown alien intelligence in orbit around the Earth. Astronauts under attack. A terrifying, mysterious landing in the Australian interior. The future of the world itself at stake. Counter Measures activated. The Seventh Doctor and Ace are slap bang in the middle of it all! This is OPERATION VOLCANO!

Ben Aaronovitch and Andrew Cartmel return to the TARDIS, on the 30th anniversary of fan-favorite episode Remembrance of the Daleks with The Seventh Doctor comics, and are joined by illustrator Christopher Jones (The Third Doctor) and colorist Marco Lesko (Robotech, The Ninth Doctor) to bring astonishing twists and turns to the lives of the Seventh Doctor, and his companions, with Titan’s new comic series.

The debut issue comes with four variant covers to collect: three art covers by artists Alice X. Zhang, Simon Myers, and Christopher Jones, and a photo cover by Will Brooks. The Seventh Doctor will also materialize with a back-up strip written by Twelfth Doctor scribe Richard Dinnick, with art by Jessica Martin (Actor: Doctor Who: The Greatest Show In The Galaxy, Voice actor: Doctor Who: Voyage of the Damned).

Interesting to see a Classic Doc getting a comic. Unless this isn't actually unusual - no idea really, don't follow the comics...

If by "classic" it is meant the Doctor's first eight incarnations (personally I hate all this "classic" and "nu-Who" nonsense) then the 3rd, 4th, and 8th Doctor's have had a mini-series of comics dedicated to them.

              WOW.

              And. I mean. WOW!

Have said for years they need to do Season releases of Doctor Who. Never thought I'd be this impressed. Just hope the price point is reasonable.

              WOW.

Will be interesting to see what the upscaling looks like. I wouldn't expect too much especially for Sontaran Experiment as although entirely shot outside, instead of film, they used video cameras.

Just tonight I sat down with kids 2yo and 5yo and watched the first half of Day of the Daleks - Special Edition, and thought - what a shame they haven't some similar for other classic stories. Yes, it's blasphemous - but it does help sell the product to the newer generation.

Michelle Ryan will reprise her Doctor Who role in a new spin-off from Big Finish

                15 March 2018

Michelle Ryan's Lady Christina de Souza is the latest Doctor Who character to land their own spin-off from Big Finish.

Ryan will front a new four-part series, The Adventures of Lady Christina, to be released in September.

Thrill-seeking cat burglar Lady Christina was introduced in the 2009 Doctor Who special 'Planet of the Dead' and was last seen soaring towards new adventures on a flying double decker bus.

                © BBC

Now listeners can find out what happened next in a new set of audio plays, which will pit her against the Slitheen and pair her with none other than Donna Noble's mother Sylvia (Jacqueline King).

Warren Brown (Luther, Strike Back) will also appear in the series, reprising his role of Sam Bishop from Big Finish's UNIT series.

"Being asked to revisit the role of Lady Christina was a very easy decision," said EastEnders and Merlin actress Ryan.

"Adventure, a sunny climate and mind-boggling scenarios are included in the scripts, everything I remember of my Doctor Who experience.

"Alas no David Tennant, but there's a host of new characters to help along the way. I love that we get to see a little more of her heart in the stories, that she does care about the greater good whilst also satisfying her curiosity for life."

                © BBC

The Adventures of Lady Christina's senior producer David Richardson added: "Lady Christina de Souza was a standout guest character in Doctor Who. When she disappeared off in her flying bus, I wanted to know what happened next – and as it turns out, so did [the character's creator] Russell T Davies!

"Russell very generously embraced the idea of us giving Lady Christina her own audio spin-off, and Michelle Ryan was delighted about the prospect of returning."

The Adventures of Lady Christina is available for pre-order now at £23 on CD or £20 on download from bigfinish.com and will remain at this price until general release, when it will be available for £35 on CD or £30 on download.

                    Titan Comics

In Titan’s The Road to The Thirteenth Doctor comics, the Tenth Doctor encounters lost, ghostly spaceships, the Eleventh Doctor and Alice visit a robot-infested 19th Century San Francisco, and the Twelfth Doctor finds London’s Piccadilly Circus transformed into a wasteland of emptiness and Pterodactyls.

River Song versus the Masters for Big Finish
Thursday, 03 May, 2018 - Reported by Marcus

                      http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2018/05...ig-finish.html

River Song will be facing the Masters for Big Finish in the fifth series of The Diary of River Song, released January 2019.

The series will see Michelle Gomez return as Missy and Eric Roberts reprise his portrayal of the Master after a 22 year hiatus. They will join Geoffrey Beevers, who first played the Master in Doctor Who TV episode The Keeper of Traken in 1981 and Derek Jacobi, who played the Master in 2008 episode Utopia and continues at Big Finish

Over the course of four audio series made in arrangement with BBC Studios, River Song, played by Alex Kingston has shone alongside several incarnations of the Doctor, including Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Peter Davison and upcoming in August, Tom Baker.

Now, in January 2019, River Song will face off against four regenerations of The Master, the mortal enemy of the Doctor, in the fifth series of adventures.

                      • The Bekdel Test by Jonathan Morris
                      • Animal Instinct by Roy Gill
                      • The Lifeboat and the Deathboat by Eddie Robson
                      • Concealed Weapon by Scott Handcock

                      David Richardson
                      , producer, tells all.
It’s a medley of Masters! In previous box sets River has been travelling back through the Doctor’s incarnations. This time around she is meeting some of the Masters – and we have some amazing firsts in this box set! Yes, it’s the first time Eric Roberts has returned to the role since the TV movie in 1996, and the first appearance of Michelle Gomez as Missy in a Big Finish production. With Derek Jacobi as the War Master and Geoffrey Beevers as the decayed Master, it’s an unmissable line-up!

                      Nicholas Briggs, executive producer
This is something we’ve been so incredibly excited about for so long. It’s been thrilling enough for us to work with Alex for all the River releases, but to put her against the Doctor’s former best friend turned archenemy is not a little mind-blowing. Fantastic that we’re getting an opportunity to work with Michelle again, after her first appearance (at Big Finish) with Sylvester McCoy back in 2007! But somehow strangely incredible that Eric Roberts is back from the 1996 TV movie. It’s frankly ‘clash of the icons’ in a really mind-blowing box set.

Jason Haigh-Ellery, executive producer, talks more about bringing these actors to audio
Working with Eric was a complete joy. Firstly, he is such a nice man and so easy to communicate with. Secondly, he likes to work and he likes to work fast. Scenes whizz by and we are all enjoying yourselves so much that you forget you are directing an Oscar nominee with over 450 movies under his belt (which should be intimidating – but isn’t). He’s very down to earth – no ego or vanity involved. I hope we work together again soon!
Having Michelle Gomez return to Big Finish is wonderful – a lovely lady, who was magnificent as Missy in the past couple of seasons of Doctor Who. I can’t wait for everyone to hear her and Alex Kingston together!

The Diary of River Song: Series 5 is available for pre-order now at £23 on CD or £20 on download.

The Diary of River Song: Series 5 can also be purchased as a bundle with The Diary of River Song: Series 4, to be released in August 2018, at the price of £45 on CD and £40 on download (all CD purchases from the Big Finish website unlock a download exclusive from the Big Finish website and app).

This weekend Big Finish are offering 50% off many titles featuring the Eighth Doctor played by Paul McGann, from the beginning of his travels with Charlotte Pollard back in 2001 to the epic four-part saga, Doom Coalition.

Until 23:59 UK Time on the 17th of May 2018, you can save 50% on the Eighth Doctor Adventures releases, Eighth Doctor stories in the Doctor Who Main Range and the award-winning Dark Eyes and Doom Coalition box sets.

The Eighth Doctor Adventures, which were first broadcast on BBC Radio 7 on New Year’s Eve 2006, are a great jumping on point for new listeners as Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor starts another phase of his adventures with a brand new companion played by Sheridan Smith, Lucie Miller.

Starting after the Eighth Doctor Main Range tales, it's a brand new set of adventures with several returning villains and all-star casts. These adventures start with an Eighth Doctor encounter with the Daleks in Blood of the Daleks, which stars Hayley Atwell and Anita Dobson in a truly terrifying introduction into the world of the Eighth Doctor.

Doctor Who: Dark Eyes (Winner, Best Online Drama, BBC Drama Awards 2014) was written and directed by Nicholas Briggs.
The Eighth Doctor is a man dealing with loss and hunting for new meaning in his life. He is looking for hope. But instead, he finds himself on a mission.
The Time Lords have uncovered terrifying fragments of an insane plot to destroy the universe. And somehow, at the centre of that plot is one, random female in Earth’s history, Molly O’Sullivan.

And after the apocalyptic events of Doctor Who: Dark Eyes, the Eighth Doctor and Liv Chenka (played by Nicola Walker) continue their adventures in space and time in Doctor Who: Doom Coalition.
An ancient danger is stirring under the citadel of Gallifrey. The Eleven - a insane Time Lord who has retained his previous personalities - has escaped, and the Time Lords are powerless to stop him. Now the Doctor, Liv and their new friend Helen Sinclair are the universe's only chance of survival.

Also in this offer are bundles on the Eighth Doctor’s adventures in the Doctor Who Main Range, with companions Charlotte Pollard, C'Rizz played by Conrad Westmaas and Mary Shelley, the gothic author, played by Julie Cox.

Class is back in session! The BBC Doctor Who spin-off, which was cancelled after one series, will return in a collection of audio adventures.

Six new stories will pick up the tale of the Coal School Academy and the group of students – Charlie (Greg Austin), Ram (Fady Elsayed), April (Sophie Hopkins), Tanya (Vivian Oparah), Jordan Renzo (Matteusz) – who protect the earth from a host of alien monsters, with help from their badass teacher Miss Quill (Katherine Kelly).

And not only are the original cast returning to voice their characters but, as confirmed by Doctor Who magazine, they’ll cross paths with Seventh Doctor companion Ace (Sophie Aldred) and the dreaded Daleks.

The new stories will be spread out across two volumes. In the first: Gifted by Roy Gill, Life Experience by Jenny T Colgan and Tell Me You Love Me by Scott Handcock. And in the second: Everyone Loves Reagan by Tom Foley, Now You Know… by Tim Leng and In Remembrance by Guy Adams.

“We’ve had a great deal of fun reuniting the original cast for the audio series, telling brand-new stories set within the TV run whilst tackling a host of alien menaces,” said director and producer Scott Handcock.

“I couldn’t resist linking up the Doctor Who universe – bringing Ace and the Daleks into the world of Class has been an absolute treat. And for full authenticity, we’re lucky to have series composer Blair Mowat return to the world of Class as well.”

Whovians won’t have to wait too long for Class: The Audio Adventures, which will be available to download on bigfinish.com in August.

Jenny is brand new to the universe. Born a soldier, made for war, she has a Time Lord’s heritage. Luckily, that Time Lord is the Doctor. She’s ready to save planets, fight monsters, and save the day, using nothing but her bravery, wit and instinct – and an awful lot of running.

1.1 Stolen Goods by Matt Fitton Jenny is new to the universe and keen to explore – but in unfamiliar spaceships, accidents happen. She’s lucky to have someone on-hand to help. A slippery, fast-talking someone, called Garundel. Soon, Jenny is mixed up in cons and explosions. But she also finds something strange, inexplicable, and as new to universe as she is. She’ll call him Noah.

1.2 Prisoner of the Ood by John Dorney Moving into Leafield Crescent, Angie Glazebrook is surprised by an unexpected caller. But not half as surprised as Jenny, suddenly transported to a suburban close on twenty-first century Earth. And that’s nothing to the surprise of the neighbours when alien visitors start appearing. Visitors with tentacled mouths, carrying death-dealing orbs. The Ood have come for their prisoner…

1.3 Neon Reign by Christian Brassington The Dragon Lord rules Kamshassa with fear. Half the oppressed population live in an addicted stupor, while the other half are forced into service. Factories belch poisonous smoke, and Dragon Guards patrol the streets, condemning dissenters to the Eternal Fire. When Jenny and Noah arrive, it’s only a matter of time before they start a revolution.

1.4 Zero Space by Adrian Poynton Out in deep space, in the middle of – quite literally – nowhere, Jenny and Noah believe they’ve found a safe haven. And, very possibly, some answers. But the space station holds many secrets, and it won’t be long before Jenny’s past catches her up. Bounty hunter COLT-5000 is on her trail and will stop at nothing to hunt down its quarry… even in Zero Space!

It's good that Jenny's finally being utilised... I do think it's a shame though that there's not much from early NuWho making reappearances in new NuWho... (Ok - don't bring back the farting Slitheen!)
