Penguin Random House Confirm 13th Doctor Books

    http://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite....-doctor-books/

Following the announcement of the new Thirteenth Doctor, BBC Books and Penguin Random House Children’s UK are delighted to announce a major new publishing acquisition. Rebecca Smart, Managing Director for Ebury Publishing and Francesca Dow, Managing Director for Penguin Random Children’s UK have acquired world publishing rights all languages, for Doctor Who series 11 from BBC Worldwide.

This is an exclusive deal for all formats including non-fiction, fiction, activity, novelty, audio and the annual. Books will be a combination of titles that introduce the show and the Doctor to a new audience as well as more in-depth books for die-hard fans. Penguin Random House UK has long been the home of Doctor Who, with BBC Books publishing the series since the 1990’s and Penguin Random House Children’s UK publishing Doctor Who titles for over a decade.

News of the deal follows the BBC’s announcement on Sunday 16th July that Jodie Whittaker will be the new Doctor. She will be the thirteenth Time Lord and takes over from Peter Capaldi who leaves the global hit show at Christmas.

Rebecca Smart, Managing Director, Ebury Publishing, says: “We are really delighted to have completed a two series publishing deal with BBC Worldwide. At BBC Books we have a long history of publishing alongside Doctor Who and are so pleased to be able to continue, particularly as the series enters this exciting new phase!”

Francesca Dow, Managing Director, Penguin Random House Children’s UK, adds: “What an exciting time to be renewing our partnership with BBC Worldwide as Doctor Who moves into a new era with its first female Doctor. Doctor Who stands for transformational magical storytelling and we can’t wait to take the new Doctor on new adventures in our books as we continue to expand the Doctor Who universe. We’ll be publishing for brand new fans meeting the Doctor for the very first time, as well as the existing fans who already know and love the show as much as we do.”

Jan Paterson, Head of Book and Audio Publishing, BBC Worldwide comments: “The Penguin Random House publishing agreement is one of the most important and successful partnerships for the Doctor Who brand, and so we are really pleased that we have renewed terms with them for Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor. Both in their publishing for the Children’s and Adult audiences, they have created an imaginative, diverse, extensive range of quality books that have reflected the content and values of the series and brand. We have worked with them on Doctor Who publishing for many years, and are excited about the plans for the future.”

Jodie Whittaker said on her appointment as the Thirteenth Doctor: “To be asked to play the ultimate character, to get to play pretend in the truest form: this is why I wanted to be an actor in the first place. To be able to play someone who is literally reinvented on screen, with all the freedoms that brings: what an unbelievable opportunity. And added to that, to be the first woman in that role.”

Roger Delgado: I am usually referred to as the Master

                http://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite....as-the-master/

                Available to order from www.fantompublishing.co.uk

Roger Delgado is instantly recognisable as the Master in Doctor Who but his most famous role was also one of his last. He died aged only 55 but his career was long and productive including roles in much loved television programs such as The Saint, The Avengers, Quatermass II and films including the Hammer horrors. His brilliant versatility made him an indispensable character actor, who was able to switch accent and nationality.

This biography brings to light Delgado’s life from his childhood and early work in banking, his repertory theatre, early television, film roles, and finally his fame as the Doctor’s nemesis, when colleagues found a master criminal was played by the kindest man they had ever met. It also shows a private life more complex than previously thought.

The biography commemorates the centenary of Delgado’s birth in 1918 and looks beyond commonly told anecdotes to tell the story of Delgado’s life and career based on painstaking archival research. It features never before seen photographs from the collection of Roger’s widow Kismet Delgado and all new interviews with both some of Delgado’s most famous co-stars as well as with rarely-interviewed co-stars and directors.

In 1997 when I purchased a Mac Quadra 840av, the Master's first appearance, and the quote of that biography, was one of the first things that I digitised (for personal use only of course) using the machine's groundbreaking consumer video capture abilities...

I've always heard that Roger was an incredibly kind man, and sadly also one afraid of flying - hence his death when the car he was travelling in (to avoid a plane ride) fell into a ravine...

Sounds like a very interesting read! Not that I was alive at the time, but really was a great shame that he passed away before filming what was going to be his finale in Doctor Who - of course, if he had - I wonder if the Master would ever have returned...

Steven Moffat on Thirteenth Doctor: Jodie Whittaker 'put a smile on my face immediately’
By Cameron McEwan on Wednesday 13 December 2017

                    http://www.doctorwho.tv/whats-new/ar...ce-immediately

Doctor Who Magazine issue 520 (out Dec 14) features an in-depth and exclusive interview with outgoing showrunner Steven Moffat.

Steven, who leaves his post as Doctor Who boss this month, chatted with DWM about his very last story, the 2017 Christmas Special, Twice Upon A Time. This was also be the final outing for Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor and will see the debut of the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker.

                    From Doctor Who Magazine 520:
“I must be honest, everyone’s watching for the last minute,” chuckles Steven, “and people are going to absolutely love Jodie. Then they’ll notice that, at the same time, they miss Peter, but it’s not like it’ll be a grieving process. Or rather, with a new Doctor, it’s always grieving and falling in love simultaneously.”

Discussing the handover to his successor Chris Chibnall, whose first series in charge airs in 2018, Moffat admits the process was emotional:
“It’s an odd feeling. It’s just weird. You suddenly realise that the new guy, the new showrunner, has to come barreling through the door and take over. It’s a slightly bewildering feeling. But it’s an amazing process.”

Although Steven wasn't on set for filming on Jodie's first scene as the Thirteenth Doctor, he has seen the finished product.
                    He told DWM:
“It’s slightly strange and very, very good. Jodie put a smile on my face immediately. She was funny from the off. I thought that was great.”

You can read the full interview with Steven Moffat and Bill actress Pearl Mackie in the latest edition of Doctor Who Magazine along with a Christmas Special preview and much, much more.

Doctor Who Magazine 520 is on sale from Dec 14, 2017.

                          Doctor Who Magazine 521
Tuesday, 09 January, 2018 - Reported by Chuck Foster

                          http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2018/01...118183008.html

The next issue of Doctor Who Magazine is out this Thursday, and features Jodie Whittaker in her first cover since becoming the new Doctor on screen! Talking about the choice of clothing for the character, the actress said:
There is no other job in the world like this. The very first meeting (with costume designer Ray Holman) was all very secret and incognito. As we were talking I was completely distracted by the colour of the wallpaper behind us. I told Roy I absolutely loved that colour, and that’s the colour of the trousers.

The issue also sees new lead writer Chris Chibnall looking forward to a new era:
What’s evident is Doctor Who’s extraordinary ability to embrace change while remaining exactly the same show that people love.

                          Other highlights include:
                          • RACHEL TALALAY: The director of Twice Upon a Time on the filming of Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker’s regeneration scene.
                          • TWICE UPON A TIME: Exclusive set report and unseen images from the 2017 Christmas Special.
                          • WHO IS JOHN SMITH? The fan turned visual effects pro who worked on the Twelfth Doctor’s final adventures.
                          • DUDLEY SIMPSON: Tributes to the composer who wrote some of Doctor Who’s best-loved scores.
                          • TARDIS BUILDING: A first-hand account of how the 1960s TARDIS prop was recreated for Twice Upon a Time.
                          • MEET THE DR MEN: Writer and illustrator Adam Hargreaves explains how his Mr Men entered the world of Doctor Who.
                          • THE FACE OF EVIL: The Fact of Fiction explores the 1977 story that introduced the Fourth Doctor’s companion Leela.
                          • THE PHANTOM PIPER: Part Three of The Phantom Piper, a new comic strip adventure featuring the Twelfth Doctor and Bill.
