Question regarding the tentacle monster

Did anyone notice the startling resemblance between the plant/monster and the zerg from starcraft 2? Think about it, the monster had a purple growth which covered the ground and had spiky tentacles which tried to stab people. Just like creep and spine crawlers from the video game. Do you think the writers drew inspiration from sc2?

No. The episode was so boring and lame for my brain to think that much.

<Snip> Obviously the spine crawler (tentacle monsters) can't move off of the creep (blue spreading material). The creep had to spread before it could plant itself on the other side of the barricade.
