They left one shuttle, and came back on the other.

Maybe we'll see some early design puddle jumpers. Would definitely increase the amount of resources they can hunt for in each window.

That i bet. And if nothing else, the power/knowledge it brings is going to keep rush busy for a while.

Yeah, that stood out like a sore thumb. Baaaad. Pretty CGI though.
Here's an in-show explanation that could work (not that I believe it): Scott said that only "half of the systems are down" - so the stabilizers were still active, and the surface of the mountain side wasn't hard enough to offer any significant resistance, considering the huge weight of the shuttle and its momentum.
The part that got me was if it went out of power, how come the comms worked?

a shuttle that won't be going to space ever again
Perhaps in the time since then thye managed to fix it... Or those who helped by providing shelter did.

Considering how there are several shots of the destiny without its shuttle, i'm assuming they'll be without a shuttle for a while.

Well, the Seeder ships need some way of actually depositing a new Stargate on a planet. Given that we have never seen any evidence that the Ancients have anything like Asgard beaming technology - or something similar that would allow a Seeder ship to transport a gate to the surface without something like rings at the destination - it seems likely that there are "cargo craft" or "gate delivery ships" aboard the Seeder ships. But if they are designed for the sole purpose of delivering gates from an unmanned Seeder craft, it seems doubtful that they would be configured for a crew. I would guess they are little more than a skeletal framework of drive, shield, and control systems, with the gate riding outside.

No need for an unmanned ship to carry manned shuttles, except as replacements for Destiny herself...which would mean that the Seeders were designed as resupply ships as well. Given that Destiny is out of range of any sort of Ancient repair facility, perhaps that makes some sense. Perhaps when Destiny is in need of supplies and/or major repairs, she sends a subspace message ahead and tells a Seeder to stop and wait for her...something I suppose we'll be able to confirm or deny very shortly.

Well gates can survive being hit by asteroids, so maybe they just eject them towards the planet? They land where they land. It does have a platform and the gate, so maybe the platform is a small lander craft.

He lost helm control and drive power, but he did very conspicuously remark that he lost half the systems, not just "i lost power" or "everything's dead".

Obviously, like it was mentioned above, things like attitude stabilizers and "repulsorlift", for the lack of a better term, were still powered. The shuttle itself would be incapable of gliding aerodynamically, and should have fallen like a rock if it was completely dead. Likewise, apparently the attitude stabilizers had enough power to compensate for the torsion from the nacelle clipping the mountain.

That's what I think too. I'm thinking it'll be like the Mars lander.

    *Abiron
I have always imagined the seeder ship as sending down 'pods' that smash into the ground, then unfold into the stair platform with the gate in the center...

I believe if we ever run into a seeder ship... ??? ... we may be able to grab a magic shuttle from it...

That would be interesting.. a complete package that launches and as soon as it lands, unfurls..

On a related tangent. We know from SGA that they had space gates. So i wonder if the seeders ever did any.

they don't have ships that can fit through them at this time, so they wouldn't need space gates

I suppose a self-contained package would make sense, with no need to return to Destiny after deployment. We haven't seen any evidence that this is the case...but we haven't seen any to the contrary either.

As to space gates...there may not have been any intentional space gates, but there's always the chance that a deployment went bad and left one drifting in space. But given the lack of gate-fitting craft and the apparent reluctance of Destiny to allow connection to a potentially instantly fatal destination, I doubt we'll see one.

    Spoilers for Awakening:

    Spoiler:
They won't snatch a shuttle from the Seedership:

nat also wries: “Will they be taking anything from the other ship next week? like a couple of shuttles”

Answer: The type of ship they’ll encounter doesn’t have shuttles. Doesn’t need ‘em.

I really hope they don't just happen onto replacement shuttles. That would be way too convenient and would clash completely with the tone of the show.

well to be honest Im not suprised that
    Spoiler:
    seeder ship won't have shuttles
, disregarding that being unmanned it wouldn't need them it seems so far that the situation of not having shuttles has been intentionally created by the writers. The initial shuttle loss story line didnt need to actually have involved a shuttle at all, the main story was Chloe's Dad sacrificing himself to close an airlock which could have easily worked without involving a shuttle. And then in this episode Rush (an apparently very intelligent guy) doesnt tell them to scrap the mission when it becomes pretty much certain the situation they are flying into is one the shuttle will not be able to withstand. Seems to me the writers didnt want them to have any way off the ship other than the gate without fans asking "how come the ship doesn't have shuttles?"

I don't know, maybe i'm reading far too much into it but it seems they have lost both shuttles very quickly. Perhaps the seeder ship and destiny will prove to have rings and they didn't want the cast to have 5 (EVA, rings, gate, stones, shuttle) different ways off the ship, after all it is a lot. it makes sense for future plots and tight situations to limit the ways they can leave the ship.
