Significance of the injury below Shep's eye in Vegas

Any thoughts on this? The police detective who visits Sheppard with Woolsey makes a point of asking what happened to his eye. Later, the nurse in the hospital flirtingly asked to take a look at the injury.
It sure seemed like there was a storytelling point there somewhere, but I've watched the ep twice now and I don't see it.
    What do you guys think?

Possibly it's just their way of saying that Sheppard gets roughed up every now and tehn. Due to his darker dealings.
