Happy to be breathing, Lou Diamond Phillips talks 'SGU' & other things
snips:
I know we can't talk about what's coming, so I just want to ask if you have enjoyed the show, both working on it and watching it?
I'm actually glad you put it that way. I absolutely adore doing the show. I think that cast is fantastic. I have a blast working a lot with Louie and the few times that I've had to work with [Robert] Carlyle were great. I truly, truly admire, respect and love that cast. And it's always exciting to me to work with Brian [J. Smith] or David Blue--any and all of them because they're such talented actors but they're also such great people. And even Peter Kelamis and Patrick Gilmore; they're there every week and they contribute so much. No matter where you throw the ball on this team you're going to score. Everybody is just fantastic.
As a result I actually have a great passion for the show itself. I watch the ones that I'm not on, you know? I've basically been a recurring guest star this year. I think will have done eight of the first season, but I'm a fan of the show. And whenever I'm not on it, I'm watching it and watching my buddies do good work.
One thing I really like on "SGU" are the heated scenes between you and Louie.
Absolutely. There's a very interesting history there, and one that I think that we're just now starting to investigate through the end of the first season. And as you can tell from what's going on with the end of the season, I mean, things are just going to get more interesting and more dynamic between those two characters.
Robert and Louie have all these really intense scenes and you and Louie do, too. Are you hoping that you somehow get stuck on the Destiny so all three of you can go at it?
I'll tell you something, it's art imitates life every once in a while; its been Telford's mission to get on the Destiny since the beginning. In many ways it's mine as well, because I would like nothing better than to be there on a more consistent basis.
Does that mean we'll see a lot of Telford on Destiny in Season 2? He is there now, so...
That's the funny thing, even in talking about it it becomes a spoiler to a certain extent ... Yeah, there's a big cliffhanger at the end of Season 1 ... I take off and go up to Vancouver again tomorrow actually.
All I can say is that Telford's journey is so twisted and takes so many turns, it's very, very interesting. And I think the show is just getting better and better. The writers really are starting to hit their stride and I think that they're finding very interesting things for all of us to do, you know, within the characters and to expand those roles. So it's been a real blast.
