LMAO... Yes I suppose she could... You are right, she is not Neelix with a wealth of odd job experience to draw from. Myself, I think her best position has not been created yet, it they ever need a diplomatic sort she would be it. Her family and life in politics she knows the art of compromise and reading people. I think she also could get into the whole solidifying the crew concept, mediating between the two factions, bring them together. I'd love to see that.

I'm wondering about her position as "Wray" - as in, the civilian go between should something ever happen to Wray. It's clear that Young doesn't trust Wray, but I believe he has far more faith in Chloe. Just as Young goes to Eli because he doesn't trust Rush, is Young having Chloe fill that same position? As far as diplomacy goes, Chloe is far more suited.

Chloe could serve as an intermediary between Young and Wray, and possibly even with Rush. The thing of it is, is that supposed to be her "job"? She gets up every morning, gets ready to face the day and waits for some issue to come up for which she can serve as an intermediary? That would get old kinda' quickly.

She still needs something which she can do to feel useful, not be the marriage counselor to the Young/Rush/Wray threesome. The writers have to cook something up which she can do on a regular basis, and then as needed she can play mediator.

          regards,
          G.

She'll fit in perfectly at the bar, it will fit her very well.

I think she has a place on 'Away Missions' (I dislike reuse of the Star Trek term) as a provider of practical insight and perhaps diplomacy, a voice of reason.

she held it together quite well when they were in the tunnels (and who wouldn't scream at a spider that size, right?)

Maybe she does want to help; but so far it seems like almost an afterthought. She wants to get off the ship to a nice planet, and either realizes "oh, right, I should probably do something" after the fact, or makes something up to go. So far, compared to everyone else, she hasn't been pulling her weight. The tvtropes entry for SGU currently has her listed as "The Load" for a reason.

She has asked to be put to work doing something, anything, but other than some manual labor (eg. picking fruit in "Time") and being the default body-swap person, no one has come forward and said, "Here's something you can do every day which will be of benefit to the running of the ship."

Can anyone suggest some sort of work for Chloe? There's a good fifty or so "no name" scientists, techs and soldiers who don't appear to do much of anything, although they are supposedly doing something related to their chosen fields. Should Chloe be put to work doing something one of these people could do, only not as well as they?
Well, part of the issue is that it's tough to show 50+ people on a TV show doing something. With the scientists, you can pretty much assume they are studying and repairing the ship. The military is protecting it, and handling the dangerous stuff. Some people are pulling double-duty like with the hydroponics lab. Other than Senator Armstrong, Chloe, and Eli, everyone at Icarus had a specialty or a job (like Becker in the mess), so they can be assumed to be doing something. But since Chloe is a main character, she gets more heat.

Barmaid? Cleaner? I'm only partially joking, but people have suggested a ton of things she could do by now. We'd only be restating the list. They'd be things I'd be trying to do, to at least pitch in and pull my own weight, and not simply be a consumer of precious resources.

Well, a certain amount of responsibility for Chloe's inactivity could be laid at Young's feet. If he has someone on board who is not pulling their weight then he should look into finding something for that person to do. Why not have him(or Chloe) talk to Wray (another under achiever) and ask her to speak to various folks (from Rush on down) and ask if they need some unskilled (but willing to learn) labor to help out with something?

Which was what I was suggesting. It's not like she can become a specialist in FTL technology or become fluent in Ancient in 10 easy lessons. Maybe the writers should run with the archaeologist line and have her not just learn, but be seen to be learning, the Ancient language. Further, if she is supposed to become some sort of ambassador for the crew, having a knowledge of oral and written Ancient might be useful. Who knows, maybe Ancient will be the basis of the languages for future alien cultures. This being said, there's likely already a whack of folks who speak and write Ancient....

Well, putting Chloe to work as a domestic would be of negligible benefit. I suspect everyone can handle washing out their own undies. Doling out alcohol doesn't seem much like helping. My suspicion is that Young keeps the food/water rations under tight control (ie. military control). If Chloe is a main character, then the writers will have to come up with something "special". I suspect this period of idleness is part of a set-up for the character's development. Likely in season two there will be a drift towards some sort of job for Chloe.
