    piramid games , mayans

Is it me or does the piramid games they have look like the mayan version of basketball?

First it should be noted that Pyramid (card game) and Triad (full court sport) were reversed in the re-imagined series.

The game you are referring to was popular throughout Mesoamerica and not just with the Mayans and there were many versions. It was, however, the Mayans which introduced the stone "hoop". Exactly how the game was played isn't really well known.

    From Wikipedia:
In the sixteenth-century Aztec ballgame that the Spaniards witnessed, points were lost by a player who let the ball bounce more than twice before returning it to the other team, who let the ball go outside the boundaries of the court, or who tried and failed to pass the ball through one of the stone rings placed on each wall along the center line. According to 16th century Aztec chronicler Motolinia, points were gained if the ball hit the opposite end wall, while the decisive victory was reserved for the team that put the ball through a ring. However, placing the ball through the ring was a rare event—the rings at Chichen Itza, for example, were set 6 meters off the playing field—and most games were likely won on points.[24]
Sak Ch’een, lord of Motul de San Jose c.8th century, dressed as a ball player with a large yoke, painted deerskin hip guards, and elaborate headdress. He is dropping onto his knee to strike the ball, which is probably exaggerated to huge proportions.

Pyramid (re-imagined version) is more like Basketball meets Rugby. Details about the court based Pyramid game are found at the Battlestar Galactica Wiki (link goes directly to article).

The field surrounded by walls seemed familiar.

That's the arena. Other "fields" have been seen on playgrounds and open areas (training).
