Not sure. Right now we're just gonna wind down. We're still deciding what to do in reality. We just don't wanna pack up and say "see ya". We still want to hang around and celebrate the awesome journey of the stargate franchise.

i'd like to know a few specifics, and maybe joe mallozzi can answer some of the questions. he won't be 'answering' any, though, until sgu aires it's last episode. he said this in his blog yesterday (his no movies blog entry)

so i'm saving up some questions to answer, and maybe we can find out how much time/long are things going to be put on the shelf, so to speak, and do we have an actual chance on getting anything sg1/atlantis. (or a combo of all three, which i think was a fab idea)

I don;t think there are specifics and if there were I am not sure we would be privy to them. It will take a few weeks to see how all this shakes out but I don't think there is a plan right now for SG. It is like the franchise has been put in stasis. I think SG will be revived at some point but it will probably be a few years - or I could be wrong and it may never come back. And if SG does return it will likely be in a very different version than the movies for which we were all hoping for.

As Major Davis said we are going to wind down. We have plans to some do some fun things that will allow us to celebrate all the great things we love about SG. We will also be putting out suggestions for people to contact MGM and let them know they are disappointed with MGM's decision. We are still working it all out.

It is exceedingly frustrating. It sounded like there was some interest on MGM's part but they could not get the financing pulled together. It is not just a matter of finding the money to make it but figuring out how they will make their money back plus a profit. The avenues and platforms for delivering original content these days are very complicated and require deals on multiple levels. You basically need a different deal for each platform, each country etc. and the deal with one will effect the deal with another. As Brad said, hopefully someone smart at MGM will figure it out.

MGM only has so much money to invest in projects. Maybe they figure SG movies won't give them the best return on their investment. I'm sure if the earlier movies were huge sellers there wouldn't be a problem. A company with fewer properties would probably be glad to make more SG movies, but probably wouldn't have the resources.

I think the potential for profit is there - I think with the changing format of media and content delivery these days it is difficult to put together a financial package that can at least insure a return on investment. I hope Brad is right and someone at MGM will figure it out. SG has been a valuable franchise for them for over a decade - that is a big plus SG has going for it.

                    Just an extra note:
There have been a lot of tweets in the last 24 hours expressing the sadness and anger fans feel with no new SG in the near future. While we don't expect MGM to turn around and change their minds anytime soon, it is important to let MGM know that SG fans are disappointed and still love/support SG.

If you are using twitter, we are using #fightforthegreenlight and/or #stargate4ever in the messages.

                    Please keep the messages polite.

Two weeks ago Brad Wright announced that Stargate will not continue in any format, show or movies, in the forseeable future. During that time we have all felt the anger, disappointment and frustration at seeing a beloved franchise end so abruptly.
Brad Wright is also quoted as saying: “It’s a franchise. Stargate is not over,” he said. “Somebody smart from MGM is going to figure it out, and something will happen,” and he encouraged fans to tell MGM that they still want Stargate.

Can Fans Keep Stargate Alive After Cancellation of Movies/Series?

As we said last week, Stargate is not dead! As long as there are passionate fans, as long as the idea and dream of stargate lives on in the hearts and imagination of fans then Stargate will never die.

This article, "10 Lessons About Life After Cancellation that Stargate Can Learn" offers good and encouraging advice and discusses how fans can help Stargate live on.

Even though there are no new movies or series for Stargate, there are still episodes in syndication, there will be viewers who will watch for the first time who will become new fans, there are still books being published and DVD/Blu Ray releases to look forward to. Fans will still write fan fic, post on message boards and enjoy episode rewinds together. Fans are the future of Stargate.

                      Stargate Tribute Celebration Contest!!!

The campaign is going to hold a contest to give fans a chance to celebrate and pay tribute to 17 great seasons of Stargate adventures. This contest will be different, bigger and more encompassing then our previous contests.

We have decided to include all three shows, SG1, SGA and SGU, in this contest. While the campaign has always been dedicated to SG1 and SGA we feel that with the demise of any new Stargate that all fans are now in the same boat. For the first time since this all started we are all facing the same thing - no new SG in the near future. So we felt it was important to celebrate, pay tribute to and miss stargate together

                      There will be three categories:

                      1. Icons
                      2. Banners
                      3. Poetry/Prose/Short Stories (600 words)

There will be one winner for each category. Prizes for these categories will be different then our previous prizes and we will announce them at a later date.

                      **NEW** GRAND PRIZE
In addition to the three category winners, we will hold a seperate vote for one grand prize winner from all the entries from all three categories. The Grand Prize will be the winner's choice of a SG1 Complete season DVD set OR SGA Complete season DVD OR SGA Complete season BluRay set OR SGU season 2 DVD set.

                      Guidelines:
                      1. Entries should depict what you feel best represents the heart and soul of stargate. The character or things you will remember the best or miss the most.

You can include limited wording in the icons or banners. examples would
"Stargate Forever" "The Greatest Characters of Stargate" "Stargate will Not be Forgotten" "Best Leaders of Stargate" "Stargate Lives On"The wording should be positive and polite.

                      2. All entries must be family friendly and rated no higher than PG.

                      3. All entries must be canon to the show.
                      * Note: You can show relationships between characters such as friendships or romantic ships that were canon in the show.

                      4. Entries can be focused on one show or it can encompass pieces of two or all three shows.

                      5. All entries must use images from one or more of the three stargate shows. No con pictures, no images from shows that are not stargate, no behind the scene pictures.

                      6. You can submit up to three entries for each category.

                      7. The campaign reserves the right to reject any entry that it feels is inappropriate, does not meet guidelines or is not in the spirit of the contest.

Deadline for entries is June 10th 2011

The campaign has always been dedicated to supporting Sg1 and SGA. We, to the best of our ability, tried to be sure the campaign was positive and fun. We, as many fans, really wanted to see these movies made.

With Brad's announcement, this appears to be the end - at least in the foreseeable future, but not necessarily forever - of SG; we have decided to go have one last contest to:

                        1. Allow fans to mourn and celebrate - Everyone is, in their own way, dealing with the news that SG has ended, and not just SGU but also the movies. We wanted to give fans a chance to remember and celebrate the SG that they loved, a chance to say goodbye, to pay tribute to a show they loved

                        2. We had a lot of people involved in and who supported this campaign over the last year. We want to thank ALL the fans that participated in and supported this campaign

                        3. Unlike how the announcement came down about SG (that's it, goodbye) we did not want to pack up and leave without some sort of farewell. We did not think that would be fair to everyone who was involved in the campaign and to all the SG fans who have been essentially left high and dry by MGM

And....We want to show we still support Stargate and encourage others to support SG too. We will continue to rally for support of SG1 and SGA.

Some may feel that SG is gone forever, but we don't believe that. Even BW, on several occasions now has stated that "someone will figure it out" and SG will be back. We also believe that SG will never die as long as there are fans who still love the show - and there are many things fans can do to help keep a show alive. We believe that SG will return one day - hopefully sooner than later- and yes we will always hope that that return would involve the characters we love from SG1 and SGA.

Stargate's future? ... from some recent interviews:

                              Article #1

Brad Wright revealed to AOL TV that the movie would have combined elements and characters from all three 'Stargate' shows, including 'Stargate: SG-1' and 'Stargate Atlantis,' to tell one big, super 'Stargate' story.

...When pressed to speculate on the future of the franchise, Wright said that studio MGM would most likely bring it back at some point, but he admitted that he was unsure if he would be asked to be a part of 'Stargate' again.

                              ARTICLE #2

Wright has hopes of his own; that (spoiler alert) stasis doesn’t mean finished.

“My feeling is that ... the concept of Stargate is too big to just let go. Somebody at MGM is going to say ‘hey we’ve got this show; let’s do something with it,’” he says. “I don’t think it’ll happen really quickly, but I think somebody is going to bring the show back.”

                              KEEPING STARGATE ALIVE AND VITAL

There may be no new Stargate to look forward to, but as long as there are passionate fans, as long as the idea and dream of stargate lives on in the hearts and imagination of fans then Stargate will never die.

Fans can have a big part in keeping SGA and SG1 alive and vital. We encourage all fans to keep supporting Stargate.

Ways to Keep Stargate Alive and Vital:

                              1. Send MGM a Letter of Support for Stargate

                              Dear (Executive name) ,

I have been a Stargate fan for (fill in) years. I have supported the shows and franchise and have purchased (fill in )

I was saddened to hear that MGM had chosen not to continue Stargate in either TV/DVD movies or an a series. For 17 seasons Stargate has provided outstanding science fiction stories and entertainment for me, my family and countless other fans.

Please do not let a great franchise such as Stargate end. It has my support and the support of fans worldwide.

                              Let Stargate Live On!

                              (sign your name and address)
