Terra Nova (Fox) - News/Discussion/Speculation SPOILERS

FOX Wants Spielberg To Helm Dino-Show

Get ready for some Dino-action courtesy of Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin – who are in negotiations to hop on board an "ambitious drama series" for FOX that "may put Steven Spielberg back in the dinosaur biz" - all according to Variety.

The project, Terra Nova, will follow "a family from 100 years in the future who travel back in time 150 million years to the strange and inhospitable environs of prehistoric Earth." This series, which has drawn the attention of FOX Entertainment Chairman Peter Rice, is said to need so many expensive and elaborate sets and FX that it will most likely go straight to series and forgo the normal pilot process - as it would be too expensive to shut down the production between the pilot and the rest of the series.

Should Terra Nova get picked up for series then Spielberg and Chernin will most likely stay on as exec-producers, although no formal deals have been made yet.

Personally I think getting Spielberg and Dinosaurs on TV just sounds like a good opportunity for a Jurassic Park tv show. Would probably help keep the show cheaper without having to do future and prehistoric past sets.

Exclusive: Kyle Chandler eyed for dino-mite Fox drama

Kyle Chandler may be closing in on his first post-Friday Night Lights gig.

The actor has been made what one source describes as a “very lucrative offer” to headline Terra Nova, Fox’s big budget pilot from producer Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin.

Brannon Braga (Star Trek/24/FlashForard) has been brought in to serve as executive producer/showrunner on the project, which centers on a futuristic family that travels back to a time when dinosaurs roamed free. I’m told a 13-episode pickup is a foregone conclusion at this point.

Spielberg dinosaur TV show. I'm sold!
This is one show I'm really looking forward to. And yeah, season 1 is pretty much a done deal, since doing only the pilot, without going into production for a full season was reported as being too expensive.
If all goes well, I expect this will take over 24's slot.

Apparently Fox ordered 13 episodes of this and it will start shooting this summer in Hawaii.

Sources told EW that a 13-episode commitment for the show is a foregone conclusion and an offer to play one of the leads has already gone out to Kyle Chandler (the Friday Night Lights star ended up passing). The show is expected to shoot in Hawaii later this summer.

12 things we know about Spielberg's Terra Nova TV series

Fox just announced what could be one of the biggest sci-fi series in TV history, but they were maddeningly coy about any actual details. They told us it's from Steven Spielberg and it's got dinosaurs and time travel, but that's about it.

We did some more online investigating and came up with 12 good tidbits about the show

              continues:

'Terra Nova' drama at Fox in talks with Jason O'Mara

The hot star of the lukewarm drama Life on Mars may find a new dimension to explore for Fox next season. A key insider confirmed that Jason O’Mara, the Irish actor who headlined the short-lived, time-traveling series for ABC last year, is in negotiations to star in Terra Nova for Fox’s mid-year lineup. As first reported by Deadline.com, O’Mara would play the patriarch of a young family from 100 years in the future that travels back to the prehistoric era.

Though the series certainly pays well and hails from some of Hollywood’s most powerful players - Steven Spielberg, ex-Fox Chairman Peter Chernin and scribe Brannon Braga (24) are among the drama’s executive producers – the offer comes with a catch: O’Mara (who’s married to actress Paige Turco) would have to move to Australia where the series is expected to begin filming this summer. Should O’Mara pass on the big-budget project that’s already received a thumbs down from Kyle Chandler, the producers could be compelled to consider a more viable (if not less costly) alternative – attracting relative unknowns to the drama that’s received a 13-episode pickup from Fox. After all, the series already touts one of the biggest names in Hollywood – Spielberg – so a marquee actor may not be needed to sell the project to viewers worldwide

Jason O’Mara Lands The Lead Role In FOX’s Terra Nova

U.S. Life On Mars star Jason O’Mara is going back in time yet again, this time for the new midseason FOX series Terra Nova, Variety has revealed.

“Writing the character of Jim Shannon, we’ve thought of Jason O’Mara as something of an archetype,” executive producer Brannon Braga told the trade. “He has an everyman quality to him, but there’s something dangerous underneath.”

'Avatar' star to join 'Terra Nova'?

Stephen Lang is apparently in talks to appear in new Fox drama series Terra Nova. Deadline reports that the Avatar actor could star alongside the previously-cast Jason O'Mara. Lang was previously pursued by the show's producers but was unable to join the cast due to his role in the new Conan film. However, he became available when Terra Nova was postponed until 2011.
Lang would play the role of Frank Taylor, a "charismatic and ruthless" man who leads the Terra Nova settlement.

Alex Graves, who directed the Fringe pilot, is expected to helm the premiere episode.

                            David Fury departs 'Terra Nova'

The executive producer of Fox's upcoming Terra Nova has reportedly departed the series. Deadline claims that David Fury left the time-travel drama over creative differences. An unnamed source apparently said: "He was beloved by the producers on the show, but it just didn't work out."

No direct replacement for Fury is planned. Showrunner Brannon Braga will now serve as the programme's sole writer and executive producer.

Filming on the series is expected to begin in October, as part of a co-production between 20th Century Fox TV, Chernin Entertainment, Kapital Entertainment and DreamWorks TV
