Sam Carter /Jack O'Neill Ship Appreciation Thread 2.0
Yes. But what happened with Replicarter is deeply connected with Sam « betraying » Fifth way back then. Sam seems to believe her double learned deception from what Fifth perceived Sam to be like after they/she left him behind.
Oh, that's right, RepliCarter's mind was not an exact copy of Sam's because Fifth made her as someone who was a bad person, capable of betrayal. But Sam was not like that, she just followed orders. That's why Sam could not really know how RepliCarter thought.
In a way, Jack allowing Replicarter in was the opposite situation. He allowed Sam to work with her. He probably fought against himself/his instincts as he did so (and maybe he did because it was about Sam... like I said, it’s probable he feels guilty too). And in the end, it ended badly too.
Jack knows Sam was mad at him back then when they left Fifth behind. He wants to make up to her by listening to her and trusting her opinion this time, but it really doesn't go well. He was right in both cases (he should have followed his instincts this second time too), yet he does not blame Sam for not reading RepliCarter correctly. But Sam is clearly feeling responsible and would need some time to cope with her own guilty feeling...

Love them, SCIMM! The Heroes one indulges my angst obsession; the wedding one makes my heart all fluttery!!!

Something that I've never thought about: The wedding in 200 was such a small portion of the episode, I wonder why they went to the trouble to get Amanda a wig. There really wasn't any reason why she couldn't have short hair, so I wonder if it was specifically a character decision (made either by AT, the producers, or someone else).
Obviously, it recalls the Sam's from TBFtGoG and Point of View, who were also engaged/married to Jack. Dr. Carter was surprised by Sam's hair in the latter episode, and even our Sam gave the reasoning behind her hair cut as "Air Force," which leads me to wonder if her having short hair has always been for mainly pragmatic reasons, as opposed to her actually liking short hair more than long.
It does seem like Sam does seem to prefer long hair in non-military contexts, the other examples being the dream in New Order (shoddy evidence, but evidence all the same) where she has left the Air Force, and post-Season 10. Of course, the primary reason behind Sam's hair after this point was that AT was growing it out for Sanctuary, but from a character standpoint, AT has said that she liked that military regulations were much less strict on Atlantis, which meant that Sam was allowed to wear her growing hair in a braid (as opposed to a bun, perhaps).
Any thoughts?

I guess you’re right. I saw some fans consider Sam as « boyish », but i think she always liked being feminine outside of work. She did wear dresses/skirts often. She also could wear pants and leather but the point is... she wasn’t against dressing feminine. At all.
So, yeah... maybe she liked wearing her hair long more than short. It’s just that it wasn’t very practical considering she was military.
Similarly, she apparently likes gardening... but AT thought this hobby was difficult to portray because her character didn’t go home often enough to care for her plants. So, she was given another hobby to show off : working on her bike. Which is traditionally more masculine than growing plants/flowers.
I actually like that Sam is allowed to be nuanced like this. She can rock leather pants one day and wear a cute dress the next day (well, in civil of course lol). Fix cars/bikes one day and care/talk to her plants when she can. Be a scientist yet be spiritual/religious. Be a good soldier yet be willing to say no if she feels it’s the right thing to do. Be a genius yet not always making the right choices when it comes to relationships. And she can also be funny (dunno if the Fandemonium novels are canon, but I just love how Sam can tease/mess with Jack in Legacy series). It was often repressed in the show when Jack was there though (probably because he was made to be the main « comic relief », if we can call him that).
It’s interesting how often I heard she was a « Mary Sue » or « boring » in the past. Because her character is far from being flat.
Young Sam had long hair. Late twenties Sam (when we first met her) had short hair, possibly because it's easier than having to adhere to regulations for long hair, but it's also possible she was simply tired of her long hair. Maybe she thought it made her look young or soft or whatever. And after ~10 years, she might be tired of short hair. We did see her have different short hairstyles over the years. As someone who frequently tires of her hairstyle, I can totally understand her wanting to change it up and being on Atlantis (less strict and by then she's also more confident/in charge) gave her the opportunity to grow it out.
Unmade Plans (WIP: 11/20): Sam's life takes a turn in an unexpected direction when she's faced with an unplanned pregnancy. The decision to keep the baby and raise it on her own will alter her life forever. Relationships are put to the test, especially the one between her and Jack. She doesn't know what to expect from him and he surprises her at every turn.
