    Dark Horizon

    Stargate: Dark Frontier

Stranded in a galaxy half a million light years from Earth, the 11 Renegade Expedition members struggle to survive in a strange and harsh environment. With the Travelers alongside them, and the last surviving humans of the Pegasus Galaxy, life has to continue.

But this Galaxy holds dangers and wonders unlike anything they’ve come across before, and on this dark frontier lies a force of unimaginable power…

Dark Frontier is an Episode based continuation to my What!if? Virtual Half Season and Alternate End to SGA “Stargate Universal Sin” where the Asurans were never totally defeated and Pegasus was laid waste by both them and the Wraith in a struggle for domination.

Posted below is an episode summary of Universal Sin. A light-medium read of 20k words

Dark Frontier takes place in the Hoag’s Object Galaxy, almost 600 million light years from Earth. Atlantis ends up here after using the experimental WormHole Drive to escape the Wraith and Asurans while ensuring that the Pegasus Refugees and Travelers have a chance at survival beyond servitude to the IOA.

The main focus of this story will be a mix of exploration, and delving into concepts that were only lightly touched at in SG1 and SGA, Such as non-humanoid aliens, intelligence that we haven't seen before, and a bit of mythology for the Ancients of long ago (There will be minor SGU Crossover as both series continue). There will be a large threat to the expedition, but not in the same stereotypical evil villains way. The lines do get blurry in as far as right and wrong as time goes by.

Episodes will be in a format similar to Lost, with a single or group of characters focused on.

The fic is posted on FF.net and links to each episode will be posted below.

The style is a mix of humor and adventure that SG1 had ample amounts. The first half of Season 1 is more about survival and initial exploration, with everything after a darker version of SG1's exploration.

This is a planned series of 4 Seasons worth of episodes with a final "movie style" ending.

The characters are a mix of SG1 and SGA with a few recurring and one-shot characters thrown into the mix. These are characters whom i've built a little more backstory to which is seen in Universal Sin.

If only they weren't such jerks.... Oh and the Shade? Yeah, they might put a damper on diplomacy. The expedition finds itself tested not only in survival, but one of them has to decide whether to try and redeem his lost soul... and the price of failure is too high for him to accept.

Here’s a quick synopsis of Universal Sin for those who haven’t read it.

Link will take you to the whole episode, Detailed Synopsis in spoiler
    .
Episode 1: Let my Confessions be Forgotten:
    Spoiler:
Beginning with the fleet hyperspacing to Asuras to attempt to destroy the Replicators, the battle takes a dark turn when FRAN is stopped by the Asurans before the giant nanite blob can form. The battle goes sour and the Wraith decide to turn on the Atlanteans.

With the Asurans regrouped, the Wraith shooting at them too, Daedalus, Apollo, and the Travelers attempt a full retreat. In the Melee, Apollo is critically damaged and Colonel Ellis along with his entire crew go down in a blaze of glory ramming the near shattered husk of Apollo into a Hive, taking 2 Hives and an Asuran Aurora out in the ensuing blast.

Daedalus is forced to abandon the strike force on the ground, and Sheppard is taken hostage by Larrin on the Traveler Aurora. Daedalus takes heavy damage and is near crippled.

On the planet, the entire strike force is annihilated except for Rodney and Ronon. Rodney is taken captive by the Asurans for interrogation, and in the process of detonating a ZPM out of spite, Ronon gets beamed up along with the ZPM in a Wraith dart that makes it back to Todd.

Daedalus eventually makes it back to Atlantis and Colonel Samantha Carter has to give the bad news to the IOA. The IOA goes into an uproar and say that they will have to ‘reassess’ their position in Pegasus.
    .
    Episode 2 – Tainted Treasure.
    Spoiler:
Ronon is captured by Todd, who himself is captured by a Wraith Queen intent on using the cloning facility to make the numbers needed to defeat the Asurans the same way they defeated the Lanteans ten thousand years ago. Todd ends up allying with Ronon and fighting their way to the ZPM room where Ronon sets them to overload using a PDA Rodney gave him.

Meanwhile on Atlantis, Sam and Lorne deal with the depression of the failure and death at Asuras by pushing forward. Lieutenant Cadman is promoted to Captain and given command of AR-2 while Lorne takes AR-1 with a new team.

The Refugees in Atlantis begin to reach their limit, and the IOA begins to send relief supplies to help them out while other plans are considered.

The Expedition tries to heal from its wounds, but it’s a slow process.

Sheppard meanwhile is being ‘interrogated’ rather strenuously by Larrin.

The Asurans find a problem with Rodney though, His evolutionary jump from “Tao of Rodney” has given his brain a defense against the replicator torture and Oberoth finds that by emotionally and mentally torturing him, his will dissolves and slowly his mind becomes accessible. The issue is that it slowly forces Rodney’s brain to return to the near ascension level of “Tao of Rodney” with the difference that it doesn’t damage his body.

Ronon is prepared to die in taking out the cloning facility, but Todd keeps his word and using a Dart, beams him up and leaves him on Sateda with a Subspace Transmitter so Atlantis can find him.

They eventually do, and the Episode ends with Ronon giving a warcry of sorrow in honor of Sheppard and Rodney whom he presumes are both dead.
    .
    Episode 3 – Isolation:
    Spoiler:
The Quarantine lockdown takes a different turn, and many members of the expedition are forced to deal with their issues.

Ronon finds that Jennifer’s innocence is worth protecting.

Lorne and Teyla find solace in sharing their thoughts.

Cadman and Katie reminisce about Rodney, and push silently forward.

Sam and Radek get into a heated argument, and Radek sees that being depressed to the point of uselessness is dishonorable.

Chuck and Amelia contemplate life and death.

Sheppard is further beat on by Larrin but eventually brought before the council whom he tells to screw off with the blame and think about the future.

Rodney’s torture is changed, and his nightmares become true at Oberoth’s will.

The Episode ends with everyone pushing forward and putting the disaster at Asuras aside.
    .
    Episode 4 – Discord:
    Spoiler:
The Travelers arrive at Atlantis and begin the process of negotiating for sanctuary and evacuation. The IOA is still unwilling to accept refugees in the Milky Way, and Sheppard is reunited with his beloved city.

John is affected deeply by the loss of Rodney, but when a distress call from Captain Cadman from the planet Larrus (Harmony’s Planet) warns of a civil war. He puts his pride aside and has to beg Larrin for a ship to take to the planet to rescue his people as the gate on Larrus is unavailable.

Larrin agrees after some convincing and sends Katana Labrea and her ship. The Traveler Captain is still traumatized from Asuras and initially hostile to the Atlanteans, but seeing how determined John is to save his people, warms up to them.

As it turns out, the Genii have a vested interest in Larrus and when Cadman offered Harmony sanctuary on Atlantis, it caused a schism between Harmony and her sisters. A Civil war breaks out and the Genii use old WW2 style tanks to dominate the cities. Harmony and her loyalist forces fall back to the shrine and use the MiinDrones to defend against the Genii.

Cadman’s team is trapped in the middle, and she watches Gunnery Sergeant Hester die in her arms from fragmentation wounds. They keep running trying to survive but are eventually pinned down in a building by superior numbers of Genii forces.

Right when it seems they’ve going to be overrun, John and a squad of hardened marines land and reinforce the position while a combat medic tends to Corporal Eli Jenkins who has taken fire and lies on a table bleeding to death.

The Genii regroup after a fierce counterattack, but before they can shell the building from afar. Katana finally joins the fight and uses her ship to take out key Genii field units from space. Corporal Jenkins is saved and Cadman is grateful to Sheppard and the Travelers for saving them.

The orbital strike has an unintended side effect, as it draws the Asurans to the planet who proceed to bombard the entire planet to ash.

When Sheppard and co make it back to Atlantis, they finally put all th pieces of the puzzle together and learn that the whole situation on the planet is the result of a giant clusterf**k and lack of proper information. The Genii declare war on Atlantis and cut off all ties.

The final scene is Mila the Traveler Engineer enraptured with Atlantis’s “shinyness” and discovering information on the Wormhole Drive that Rodney was studying. Radek sees the information and is enthralled as well.
    .
    Episode 5 – Pariahs:
    Spoiler:
Now allied with the Travelers, Atlantis is moved to a new planet to hide. The Travelers begin to integrate into Atlantis but before anything can really be done, Sam and John are recalled to Earth for a mission statement debriefing…. Along with John’s father’s wake.

Ronon thinks of going, but Teyla and Jennifer are very busy keeping the refugees calm and healthy and his help is needed in Atlantis.

When they reach Earth, Sam feels sympathy for John and offers to go with him to the wake. John accepts and they find out a little more about each other. The stress of Atlantis pushes John too far though and when Dave accuses him of only being there to contest the will, John throws a hard punch and breaks Dave’s jaw.

Ava Dixon tells both Sam and John about the replicator on Earth, and instead of immediately reporting it they go to General O’Neill because Sam’s worried that the news of a “replicator” on Earth will taint the IOA’s slowly softening opinion on not letting Pegasus refugees to Milky Way out of fear of Wraith or Asuran following them.

General O’Neill nearly flips his lid at the thought, and realizes that Sam is right and decides to use his old Black Ops channels to deal with the problem quietly.

So instead of hunting the replicator down, John and Sam end up just dealing with the IOA and their debriefing. John ends up explaining a little more of his family issues to Sam and they start to become closer friends.

When John is in his debriefing, Sam talks with Jack about their potential relationship. Sam is depressed over the situation in Pegasus and is considering coming back to Earth. Jack consoles her and sidesteps the issue of their relationship because he knows it’ll just weigh her down more.

Sam goes into her debriefing and Jack orders John to watch Sam’s back because he knows the Lieutenant Colonel cares more about Atlantis than anything else. He advises him to deal with his affairs here on Earth,

John follows the advice and talks to his lawyer about his inheritance. He ends up getting 30% of his father’s assets which come out to thirty two million dollars. He donates sixty percent of it to the Atlantis Relief fund and the rest he wills to military charities and his ex-wife.

Sam is depressed as well and wants to talk to Jack, but Jack has dealt with the replicator problem and Dr Poole, the Replicator, as well as Ava Dixon are all dead as a result. He’s forced to bury it to prevent a scandal and as much as he wants to see Sam, knows that if she’s seen with him during this scandal, they’ll use it against her in the Pegasus brief.

The Episode ends with John decided that he needs to do something since this is likely his last night on Earth, and ends with him asking Sam if she likes Ferris Wheels after reading about a carnival in the paper.

      Episode 6 – Flight:
      Spoiler:
A duel story, John is critically injured when he falls into the Genii Mining facility when escorting Dr Keller to the village there along with some Marines in case of Genii Ambush. Dr Keller falls in as well and she has to treat him for giant splinter that has drilled into his gut. The marines fall back to Atlantis to get help.

Rodney meanwhile on Asuras is put through the final stages of his torture Oberoth finally breaks the last of his defenses and accesses all the knowledge Rodney unlocked with his nearly ascended brain. It proves so much that Oberoth begins to overload from the vastness of it. All appears doomed for Rodney when an Aurora appears above the skies and starts raining drones down on the capital city .

Of all people, Elizabeth Weir arrives in a last ditch effort to save Rodney. She and her renegade faction of Asurans set the ZPM network to overload, and her final action is giving Rodney enough coherence to survive before she throws him through the Stargate to “Proculus” Chaya Sar’s planet from Season 1. Elizabeth knows that she’ll never be accepted on Atlantis because of her replicator form, and dies in the ensuring blast that annihilates Asuras.

Ronon is given a new team of Marines (Captain Vega, Sergeant Mehra, Lieutenant Dan Drake.) and the Daedalus has been mostly repaired and sent back into action against the Wraith. Both groups succeed, though Daedalus ends up taking another beating and needing a full refit back on Earth.

Daniel Jackson is sent to Atlantis to help with the translation of the Ancient Database as well as artifacts. Sam greets him warmly and Daniel takes a shining on Teyla and her work with the Refugees.

Interspersed between all the stories are flashbacks from Sam and John’s POV of their last night in DC

Flashbacks in order: John decides that no matter what he’s not going to leave Atlantis, and after some hard deliberation and checking a newspaper, ends up asking Sam to go out with him to a Carnival seeing as it could be their last night on Earth. She hesitates, but in the end agrees to go.

Since he’s got a fat wallet from his inheritance, he spoils them both by
      • Going to a carnival and winning a bunch of toys,
      • Going on a Ferris wheel at night and Sam figuring out why he loves it,
      • Renting a pair of motorcycles and tearing DC up,
      • Going to a 5 star restaurant (and creating havoc) as well as admitting to Sam that he’s donated most of his money to the base in the form of relief supplies,
      • Dancing with her after buying new very expensive clothes so they don’t get kicked out of the restaurant,
      • Buying a ridiculously expensive crystal chess set that caught both of their eyes.

By the end of the night, both are much closer as friends and Sam is worried about John’s intentions, When he shows no impropriety, Sam invites him in to play a game of chess and chat. They bond over old missions, funny stories, and eventually, Sam asks him why he wears his armband.

John is reluctant, but feeling that Sam is trusting him more than most people, he takes it off and reveals a tattoo of a Bessel Function underneath. He explains that it’s a constant reminder that he originally wanted to be an aircraft designer, but ended up in the Air Force after taking flying lessons in college. He wears the armband as a reminder that things don’t always turn out the way he expects them to.

Sam is moved by his admission to her that as far as she knows no one else knows. When he goes to clean his knuckle wound, she falls asleep in front of the chess set (they were playing on her bed in the hotel room) John tucks her in, and gives her a small kiss on the temple as a goodnight before heading to his own quarters. End Flashback

The Marines with Keller and Sheppard get to Atlantis and Sam doesn’t have any teams to go and rescue them. So she and Daniel suit up and with a few medics, leave Larrin in charge of Atlantis to get the Traveler woman to trust them as she goes to rescue John and Jennifer.

Once they get them back to Atlantis, everyone is relieved that John’s going to be okay. Larrin and Sam have a chat and Larrin suspects that Sam and John are more than friends. Sam denies it and explains the Frat Rules, and Larrin scoffs at them saying it’s a ridiculous notion but then again the Travelers are a completely different society. She then accuses Sam of breaking those rules since she obviously cares about Sheppard. Sam can’t really deny it and pushes it out of her mind.

While Larrin and Sam are chatting, Mila tells John about the Wormhole Drive. John realizes the potential and tells her and Radek to keep it a secret. Sam comes to see him and they have a little no-words needed moment where John thanks Sam for suiting up and rescuing him.

The episode ends with Sam admitting she was still awake when John kissed her that night in DC and she kisses him back in the same way as a friendly gesture for him to get better.
      .

      Episode 7 – Median:
      Spoiler:
A month after Daniel Jackson’s arrival, he is recalled for a briefing by the IOA along with Ronon whom they want to interview regarding the Wraith Cloning Operation.

John works with Radek and Mila to develop “a plan” to use the wormhole drive to escape without any chance of being followed. He convinces Larrin not to give up hope and run as she was planning.

The Wraith find out about the incident at Larrus and Todd orders one of his subordinates to plan a way to strike at the Atlanteans to throw them off balance.

The IOA in the meanwhile is holding a security conference with the Jaffa Nation as well as the Nox to discuss potential evacuation of Pegasus, things are looking up and with Daniel’s testimony about the refugees, Atlantis is hoping to start sending people soon.

Daniel and Ronon go to midway, where Ronon gives Daniel the big brother speech over his intentions with Teyla (Purely honorable). But as they’re talking, the Wraith hijack the Midway bridge and begin their attempt to invade Earth.

Triangulating the position of the wormhole, the Wraith find Atlantis once more and dispatch 3 hives to distract them while Midway is under attack,. The Hives remain out of weapon’s range, but aren’t actually attacking. It feels like a siege and after some discussion, John pilots a cloaked jumper with a few nukes in the aft to try and take out the Hives while Larrin and a few Generational ships distract the Hives.

The Plan succeeds, and John is able to plant the nukes close enough to the hives to take them out. On Midway meanwhile, the Wraith break the lockout and are poised to attack the SGC. Before they can though, Daniel uses his radio to warn Landry to close the iris preventing any Wraith from stepping foot on Earth.

Daniel and Ronon are outgunned and outnumbered, and unable to rescue Dr Lee, Kavanaugh, and the other guy. Daniel has gotten the ATA gene therapy and intends to fly(or at least turn on) the escape jumper.

On Earth meanwhile, the new head of the IOA, Mr. Coolidge orders General Landry to detonate the self-destruct the gate bridge has. Reluctantly, the general gives Daniel 5 minutes to get the jumper as far away as possible before sending the destruct code.

Daniel and Ronon survive the blast in the jumper and are stranded for 3 weeks in the void between galaxies waiting for Daedalus to pick them up.

On Earth, Daedalus has gotten a refit designed to make it more Pegasus friendly. It’s forward Asgard Plasma Beam weapons are modified to make them more lethal against hardened and shielded targets. An extra pair of compartments are also added above the hangers that serve as a machine shop and lab for long term missions.

Atlantis eventually finds out about Midway, and when they dial Earth directly Generla Landry tells Sam the bad news. The IOA has reaffirmed its stance that no refugees will be allowed through for fear of Wrath invasion.

John ends up having to accelerate his planning and recruit Larrin before she can take her people and leave. He’s got Ronon and Teyla’s support, though now the plan has changed from simply using the drive to escape to stealing Atlantis.

A week passes and the IOA begins to drop hints that they’re going to wait until after the galactic massacre to send a task force to reclaim the galaxy for their own colonization. Both Sam and John are infuriated by it.

Sam is heavily depressed and overworks herself. John finds her passed out on her desk and walks her to her quarters. Feeling the need to talk, they have a beer on a balcony where Sam gets drunk enough to let go of a bit of her control to telll John that she’s worried about what’s going to happen. As drunk as she gets, she also tells John that she knows he’s planning something.

John sees that she’s serious, and tells her the plan, she’s torn between wanting to save the people in the city (Now seven thousand) and the thought of leaving Earth behind. She decides to wait on it and not stop him outright. A certain degree of UST is prevalent but nothing happens as they’re both still well in control.

The Final scene has an Asuran Wolfpack over Proculus being torn to shreds by Chaya Sar

        Episode 8 – Bonded Part 1:
        Spoiler:
The episode begins with Daedalus arriving with Daniel and Ronon in good health. Daniel announces to Sam that he’s not leaving Atlantis as Ronon has told him John’s plan, and the conspiracy grows.

A plan is brought up by Sam and John to use the Traveler fleet alongside Daedalus to raid an Asuran Wolfpack of their ZPMs. Before that though, Daniel recounts that a refugee has confided in him about a potential Wraith holding an Atlantean hostage.

Ronon and his team go through the gate and discover that it’s really Michael, and the “hostage” is Carson Beckett’s clone. The replicators have destroyed Michael’s cruiser, and in a last act of desperation, Michael hybridizes as many Athosians whom he kidnapped as he can and attacks a Wraith shipyard hoping to steal a ship.
On Atlantis, Amelia Banks and Chuck Campbell notice that an Asuran Wolf pack has been destroyed over Proculus. John and Chuck are the only ones to remember who’s there and Sam insists upon going and trying to convince Chaya to let them send refugees there.

Sam and John are still friendly to each other, but their friendship is strained because Sam knows that if things go bad then John is going to mutiny. Her morals and her loyalty are pulling her in tug of war and she’s still not sure which side she’ll listen to. Added to this is the fact that if John does mutiny, her command status will be questioned and knowing the IOA, she’ll probably be kicked out of the SGC if she goes back. They have several intense arguments that all end in mutual apologizing because it’s neither of their faults.

Ronon tells his team of the plan and they all agree to stay till the bitter end. They chase Michael down 3 planets, rescuing the Athosian Children, Clone Carson, and finding out Michael’s plan. They arrive at the Wraith shipyard planet and instantly notice the bodies. The Hybrids have been massacred and took many Wraith down with them. After some tracking, Ronon eventually finds Michael and gives him a small interrogation.

Michael tells Ronon of the Superhive being built there and laughs at Atlantis’s attempt to survive. Ronon finally snaps and ties Michael to a tree before slashing his gut open. Ronon leaves Michael to choose between holding his guts in or trying to untie himself. (Michael does indeed die)

On Proculus, Sam and John are shocked to find Rodney in perfect health. He seems unsurprised to see them and asks for a moment alone with John. He explains that he can’t go back, but John doesn’t want to hear it.

As Sam is discussing things with Chaya, screams are heard from where John and Rodney are. Rodney admits that he’s not the same and shows Sam that he has ascended in order to block out the memories of the Asuran Torture. Rodney has shared his feelings and emotions with John to show his best friend why he can’t come back with them.

John is instantly traumatized by the event, and Sam has to spend a few hours consoling him and listening to what happened to Rodney. Rodney explains that the “others” won’t let him show Sam why he can’t come back. A larger plan is hinted at by Rodney and the Others, and he vanishes before Sam’s eyes as John hugs her while weeping. Rodney’s last words to her are to take care of John and herself as well as a variable in the wormhole drive.

On Atlantis, Daniel is wounded in a scuffle with the refugees, and to everyone’s surprise. Richard Woolsey arrives from Earth with orders to assess the state of affairs on the base. When Sam and John return, they find the chaos of Clone Carson’s return, the Athosian massacre, and Woolsey’s arrival has caused an upheaval.

Keller is too exhausted to help Carson look for a cure for his cellular degradation, so they put him in stasis much sooner than in the series. Teyla is traumatized from learning her people are gone except for a few dozen children, and ends up having to get a C-section to save the baby.

Woolsey interviews Larrin and offers her the latest IOA proposal. Her engineers and command staff would be allowed to remain at the SGC while her people were screened. It amounts to “Give us your technology and we’ll save you.” Larrin tells him to piss off.

Woolsey then tells Sam that his recommendation is going to be that the ZPM’s Daedalus is going to be bringing back be sent to Earth to increase their defensive potential and that Atlantis is simply going to be submerged and the hope is neither the Wraith or Asurans will find them. He also states his suspicion that John is planning something, and tells Sam that in all likelihood she’s going to be recalled as Atlantis is no longer militarily involved in Pegasus.

Sam can’t take it anymore and sets a trap up for Woolsey in the conference room. The Episode ends with John taking the gun Sam hid for him and stunning Woolsey along with his personal escort. Sam tells John that he “owes her her life back” and the coup has begun.

        Episode 9 – Bonded Part 2:
        Spoiler:
The coup has begun, and John gives Larrin the signal for her forces to start taking the city. What he had hoped to be a quick and painless takeover quickly devolves into a bloody massacre as the marines that the IOA has sent begin fighting back.

John and Sam plead with Larrin to keep her troops using stun weapons, and eventually Major Lorne orders the Marines to go non-lethal as well. The lines are drawn and the majority of the expedition isn’t willing to join the Renegades.

Chuck is the only one to openly join straight away as he hates the IOA and Atlantis is more home to him than anywhere else.

Daniel Jackson is injured yet again when he falls off a catwalk from getting stunned. Sam and John move in with Traveler support to rescue him, and eventually spilt up to continue the city takeover.

Meanwhile, Daedalus and the Traveler fleet manage to steal the ZPM’s from the Wolfpack they disable, but both the SuperHive and 6 more Auroras arrive to complicate things. The Travelers fall back, but their Aurora is destroyed by the Superhive and only about 60 people are able to be beamed off by Daedalus.

Daedalus itself takes a massive beating from the Superhive and is barely able to limp away while the Asuran Auroras try and take on the Superhive. The Hive makes quick work of them, but takes enough of a beating itself to require a few days repair to its hyperdrive.

When Daedalus returns to Atlantis, the coup is pretty much over, Ronon and his team take Daedalus without a fight.

The Wraith move in on Atlantis in force now, the remaining 12 hives surround the planet just outside of weapons range laying siege. In order to further protect the city, they hook up the ZPMs and submerge the city to protect from the Wraith weapons.

Sam ends up dialing Earth, and having a very angsty moment where she confronts Jack about them never having a relationship. It ends amicably as they tell each other that they’ll miss one another severely. The link is cut, and Sam finally starts to cry after all the chaos and turmoil of the past 6 months.

John finds her and consoles her how he can, they go see Daniel and Teyla in the infirmary and get a little hope from their friends. John then walks Sam back to her quarters and says he won’t hold it against her if she goes back to Earth. Sam is unwilling to live life without the grandeur of the Stargate program in it, and after so much frustration they finally come to blows.

Sam first slaps John out of frustration, but feeling the rage, begins to kick his ass all around the hall in front of her quarters as she lets go of her control.

John barely fights back, as he’s very depressed over committing the actions he has today. Sam feels horrible for taking her frustration out on him in such a personal way and drags him into her quarters where she uses a Tok’ra healing device to patch him up.

The final scene is they both feel like crap, and after an aborted kiss end up sleeping (as in rapid eye movement, not rapid hip movement) together just so they can feel a little better. They consider talking about this little something between them now, but neither wants to deal with it.

        Episode 10 – Penultimate:
        Spoiler:
Atlantis is calm once more, and the offer is made to anyone who wants to join the Renegades.

Chuck and Larrin begin a platonic sexual relationship, Kevin Marks joins the Renegades in honor of the lives lost on Apollo and Daedalus, Laura Cadman joins up as well because she owes her life to the Travelers and Sheppard. Dr Esposito joins as well since after the “Tao of Rodney” escapade, Rodney fought to keep her on the base despite her error and the IOA wanting to get rid of her.

Daniel recoups from his injuries, and he has a fun ‘get to know each other by telling stories’ session with Teyla.

The renegades meet up to discuss when and where they’re going to escape, Radek and Mila explain that the Wormhole drive is going to take most of the power they can muster at any one point and that 65% of the city will be exposed to space when the activate it. This causes a problem as they’re surrounded by Wraith Hives and the Superhive is on it’s way.

They discuss options including using the Traveler fleet as decoys when Sam gets a “stupid” idea. She has Chuck contact the nearest Asuran Wolfpack and offers to surrender if they’ll come and help. It’s a fake out maneuver as the Asurans will go for the Wraith before moving on Atlantis. The hope is that the Asurans will give them enough of a distraction that they can activate the wormhole drive without the risk of getting blown out of the skies while it charges us.

When they contact Oberoth, John has a panic attack and suddenly runs off. Larrin goes with him and consoles him a bit, and Sam ends up going around to see how everyone’s doing. Eventually she goes to see how John is doing and he can’t take it anymore and pulls her into a hug. He begs her to stay with him as he’s coming undone from the shared emotions and feelings Rodney left him.

They end up sleeping together out of comfort and relief again, but Sam is adamant that John not kiss or touch her because she’s still very confused over her feelings and actions of the past few days and doesn’t want to regret anything. John himself isn’t sure if what he’s feeling is him or Rodney and just holds back. They fall asleep with less awkwardness than before.

          Episode 11 – Universe:
          Spoiler:
John has trouble differentiating between his feelings and Rodney’s, and Sam begin to regret having gotten such a close friendship as it’s compromising their decision making.

One by one, the expedition says goodbye to those not staying. John gives Major Lorne one last chance and seeing that the IOA would love it and give him more clout to defend the people going back, Major Lorne finally hits John and gets his blood on his uniform. They shake hands and part amicably with the ZPM John’s giving Earth.

Caldwell finally acknowledges that Sheppard’s a hero, but still doesn’t think he’s a good soldier. When asked whether he regrets not getting John’s job years back, Caldwell simply looks around the city nostalgically and says goodbye and good luck.

Woolsey is questioned first and told to work on the IOA’s problems to prevent another catastrophe like this. John then drags him to the gate, gives him a letter to give to O’Neill, then kicks him through the gate A La 300 style.

Sam gets called down to the infirmary and finds Carson still in stasis and unable to go back to Earth. It’s just another nail in her coffin and she begs god for forgiveness. It’s hinted that Ronon and Jennifer slept together as a final goodbye.(not confirmed, up to you to decide )

Their final transmission to Earth contains all the information they can send on the Ancient Database. Only an hour remains before the expected arrival of the Asurans. The city is prepared and John takes the helm at the control chair. The Traveler ships are all skeleton crewed along with Daedalus to extend their shields over the city to give it a better chance of survival.

Chuck detects the Asurans and the plan commences, John lifts the city up the ocean and while the Wraith scramble to attack the Asurans, it seems that all is going to be well.

The city launches without a problem and achieves orbit. The ships on the piers turn their shielding on, and 4 Wraith Cruisers attack along with their darts. An exploding console critically injures Mila. Larrin along with some travelers have to carry her to the infirmary.

With 3 minutes left, the SuperHive jumps in a minute and a half out. It ignores the Asurans despite taking fire and heads straight for Atlantis. Radek reports that if the Superhive hits them, it’ll drain too much power and the shields will cover less area exposing the refugees to space. Marks offers to sacrifice the Daedalus in a nuclear ramming attack to save the city, but just as the craft is preparing to take off, the Superhive fires its forward banks at maximum range.

All hope seems lost until just moments before the shots hit the city, they slow down and eventually freeze. No one knows why this is happening, but every shot the hive fires simply slows and stops a hundred feet from the shield. Daedalus is frozen on the pier as well, the thrusters firing but the ship's not going anywhere.

Both Sam and John realize that it’s Rodney as an ascended being doing it, and realize that no matter what Rodney will always be with them and be a part of Atlantis. The Drive spools up and in a magnificent splash of blue, the wormhole drive tears the universe a new one and Atlantis escapes.

Todd on the Superhive can’t understand it, but seeing that he’s lost now, turns his attention to the surviving Asurans and orders that once they are dealt with, to scavenge the broken hives for supplies. When Kenny asks what they’d need from them, Todd simply replies. “supplies.” And it’s understood that he’s going to cull any survivors for food.

Back on Earth, Mr Woolsey meets with Jack at a tea shop. He delivers the unopened letter to him and Jack reads it. It’s a set of stellar coordinates and the words “I’m sorry.” Jack understands clearly and even knows the coordinates from his hobby. He burns the letter and when Woolsey asks him what it was he just replies that he wants to know what it’ll take to fix the IOA.

In Hoag’s Object, the city has landed and damage is immense, the hyperdrive is fried along with the wormhole drive so there’s no hope of going home easily.

The series ends with Sam on the balcony shivering a little. This planet is much colder than they’d expected. The Mainland to the south is temperate though and supposedly has an Ancient outpost. John joins her and they have a little talk where Sam pushes her feelings down and says she needs time to recover, and she needs to do it alone for now. John agrees since he himself isn’t so sure about his thoughts and feelings.

Larrin joins them after a minute along with the rest of the new cast, Mila on Radek’s shoulders as she’s still pretty hurt from the console explosion. When they talk about what they’re going to call the planet some wacky names are put forth, but Dr Esposito offers “Saudade” which is an untranslatable Portuguese word that means “a sorrowful longing for something that you know you probably won’t ever get”

Everyone gets it and the moon is named Saudade. The final scene is the new cast watching the ringed planet they’re orbiting rise in the Horizon much like the ending of “The Quiet Earth”

            Main Cast

SPOILER tags contain information on the Character’s status immediately after the events of Universal Sin leading into Dark Frontier.

            Lt. Col. John Sheppard -
            Spoiler:
Formerly Military Commander in the Atlantis Expedition, John became bitter with the IOA after the defeat at Asuras and ended up leading a coup with the Travelers to take Atlantis and escape the Wraith and Replicators.

He’s depressed over everything that happened, but he’s been able to keep it together by relying on his close friendships with Teyla, Ronon, and Sam. He’s got a UST thing going with Sam, neither of which really wants to deal with due to the awkwardness and depression.

He’s unsure of his feelings for her since he had a “mind meld” with ascended Rodney and has trouble separating their feelings out. Neither is sure what they want from each other.

He spends a lot of time working on Daedalus with Sam and Marks. He typically tries to keep things light and social and organizes movie nights and other social events to keep people’s spirits up.

Only Sam, Daniel and Larrin know about his mindmeld and he speaks with each on occasion about the ordeal.

            Colonel Samantha Carter –
            Spoiler:
After the defeat at Asuras, Samantha slowly becomes depressed and forms a close friendship with Sheppard in the process of defending and managing Atlantis. Was stuck between a rock and a hard place as since it was her command, if John mutinied and she headed back to Earth, she would have lost all privileges and rank in the SGC.

Sam was unwilling to accept a life stuck on Earth and mediocrity and reluctantly joined the coup. She forced herself to finally confront Jack O’Neill about their missed potential relationship and ever since has been very depressed.

She relies heavily on being a workaholic in repairing Atlantis/Daedalus, her tight knit friendship with Daniel Jackson and John Sheppard, as well as an almost sister like relationship with Mila the Traveler Engineer.

Is unsure of her feelings towards John due to both liking him because he’s a great guy, and hating him for putting her in this situation. J

Chats with Daniel often and has trouble talking with the lower ranked renegades. Prefers to talk those nearer her own rank and civilians simply out of comfort.

            Dr. Daniel Jackson -
            Spoiler:
He came to Atlantis in its final months in Pegasus in order to help with ancient devices and translations. A magnet for disaster, he ended up spending 2 weeks trapped on a Jumper with Ronon after escaping the Midway Disaster.

During his stay in Pegasus, he helped Teyla with the Pegasus refugees and developed a close friendship with her. He’s contemplated a possibility of a relationship since, but nothing has really happened. He helps Teyla with her child every now and again, but for the most part Daniel sticks to his archeology studies and habits.

Has a tendency to get hurt and mutter “O’Neill”isms as well as deadpan sarcasm to keep his spirits up and remember his old friend. Is Samantha Carter’s best friend and cares about her more than he does himself. Despite his propensity for getting hurt, he rarely complains and in fact prefers to stay out of action-oriented missions.

            Larrin –
            Spoiler:
The commander in chief of the Travelers, she came to Atlantis looking for sanctuary for her people, and ended up helping John in his coup to take the city.

Brash and unafraid to speak her mind, she often manipulates situations for either her own amusement, or to forward her agenda.

Cares about her people more than anything and would do anything to help them, This includes many things that the renegade expedition members are unwilling to do. She serves as a go-between for the Travelers and the Renegade Expedition.

Is close to Sheppard because he trusted her with his plan before anyone else as well as his mindmeld with Rodney. Also has an on-again, off-again relationship with Chuck Campbell. Also friends with Sam and Major Marks, she doesn’t spend much time with the lesser ranked Renegades preferring her own people.

Is a great shot with a particle magnum and a decent hand to hand fighter. Hates it when guys try and be protective but is willing to put up with Sheppard because she loves teh Hair.

May seem immature at times but she’d a great leader and in crunch time, not someone you want to mess with,

            Chuck Campbell –
            Spoiler:
Formerly the head Gate Technician for Atlantis, is the first person to join the Renegades during the coup, He’s a laid back guy who figures that he’ll have a much more exciting and meaningful life going with the renegades than he would as a lackey of the IOA.

One of the few remaining original members of the expedition from Earth, he’s spent so much time on Atlantis that he considers it home.

Has an on-again off again relationship with Larrin, but he knows it’s nothing serious. Is the team’s mechanic and technician, but prefers to stay out of the action unless needed. He’s very easy going and fits in well with the Travelers.

            Major Kevin Marks –
            Spoiler:
Former 2IC of Daedalus under Colonel Caldwell, he decides to stay with the Renegades after learning of the IOA’s ignorantly genocidal orders.

He works with John and Sam to repair the Daedalus and will command the battlecarrier when repairs are complete. A cautious man, he prefers sleeping on the Daedalus and it becomes his home of sorts.

A bit of a loner, he spends the majority of his time working on the crippled BattleCarrier and teaching interested Travelers to be his crew. Occasionally joins in command briefings to keep up to date.

Is friends with Sam and Daniel, though he’s friendly with everyone.

Recurring Characters. – Spoiler Tags describe character status

              Teyla Emmagan –
              Spoiler:
After giving premature birth to her child, she realized that her people need her attention as there are only children left. With Daniel’s help, she begins to teach them to survive and live in Atlantis as their new home.

Spends most of her time either helping the refugees adapt to their new life, teaching the Travelers how to survive on a planet, or taking care of her son.

Joins the team every now and again as a negotiator or support. Is very close to John, Ronon and Daniel. She’s not really looking for a relationship, but isn’t opposed to being close to Daniel or her old team.

              Ronon Dex –
              Spoiler:
With the Wraith destroyed (supposedly) Ronon feels that his life has lost meaning. He trains the Travelers in combat techniques, but for the most part he’s depressed over the sudden change.

He talks with Teyla a lot, and is oddly close to Daniel and convinces him to take some physical training. Is very close to his team of ex Atlantis personnel and would do anything for them. He’s also close to John, but they’re more buddies than anything else. Is contemplating a relationship with Dusty, but nothing has really come out of it out of respect.

              Carson Beckett (Clone) –
              Spoiler:
Frozen in stasis, it was impossible to treat him before leaving Pegasus for Hoag’s Object, or even send him home to the Milky Way. The first episode is from Carson’s POV and his perspectives and thoughts on the situation.

              Captain Laura Cadman –
              Spoiler:
Decided to join the renegades out of loyalty to Sheppard who broke the rules to save her life, she spends most of her time teaching the Travelers and helping Clone Carson.

Loyal to Sheppard and in turn Sam, is a bit of a spaz with the others who joined up as well. Joins the team when demolitions are needed (becomes more often as time goes on)

              Doctor Radek Zelenka –
              Spoiler:
The chief of science of Atlantis, he took over for Rodney after Asuras, Originally unconfident and unsure of himself, after working with Mila, he became a good leader of civilians and focuses on researching Atlantean Technology. He’s dedicated his life to Atlantis and works in honor of Rodney.

Doesn’t appear very often as he spends the majority of his time maintaining the city and training the Traveler Technicians in Ancient technologies.

Has a sort of big brother relationship with Mila, whom he’ll do anything to protect.

              Dr Rafaela Esposito –
              Spoiler:
Joins out of a sense of honor to Rodney, and the fact that she doesn’t feel like she’ll get any of the respect she’s gotten on Atlantis back home. Physicist and general technician, she takes over as 2IC of science.

Goes off-world frequently as a scientific attaché, hates guns and often tries to remain unnoticed.

Looks a lot like Alicia Vega for some strange reason

              Captain Alicia Vega –
              Spoiler:
Joins because she swore to defend Atlantis, Ronon puts up with her attitude and values her input. Very headstrong woman who’s a more than decent pilot as well. Natural gene carrier.

Isn’t really interested in a relationship though many Travelers have tried. She does flirt with Drake a lot but it’s mostly just to tease her teammate.

Looks alot like Dr Esposito for some strange reason

Lieutenant Dan Drake (AKA Slobodan Draculic) – Click This Link for Bio.
              Spoiler:
Joined the Renegades through Ronon’s team. He’s not one to leave people behind and Atlantis is the closest thing he’s had to a real home since he was a child.

Incurable flirt, his teammates tease him often. (He gives back as good as he gets.)

              Sergeant Dusty Mehra –
              Spoiler:
Disillusioned with the IOA after the Ori War, she joined Atlantis in search of Bad Guys that Needed Killin’.

Immediately takes a liking to Ronon’s style, and for the most part is his 2IC despite her low rank comparatively.

Immature, she had a failed relationship back on Earth that despite trying to solve ended up being a strong part of her desire to join the Renegades.

              Katana LaBrea –
              Spoiler:
Captain of a Traveler ship, she lost most of her crew when the Traveler Aurora was destroyed by the Superhive in the last battle the Atlantis Expedition took an active part in during the Wraith/Asuran War.

Develops a friendship with Major Marks since they both feel closer to their ships than they do other people. Confident, she’s not afraid to speak her mind. Distrusts the Lanteans to a degree because they’re not used to living on their own like she is.

              Mila –
              Spoiler:
Traveler Engineer, Adopted by Katana, she’s been working on ships for most of her life. Only 15 years old, is a little socially unhinged for a teenager, but fits in very well with the adults.

Seeing the similarities, she’s developed a sister like relationship with Sam, and sees Sheppard as a sort of crazy fun uncle. Larrin often chats with her and acts as a big sister taking care of her. Treats Radek like a brother and they’re often together even on their off hours.

              Reyna Arius –
              Spoiler:
One of the head Traveler Medics, she becomes Carson’s assistant and lead doctor. Is much more scientific than Carson and despite being a little naïve to Earth customs, most of the renegades like her as she is very easy going.

I was under the impression you were still deciding whether or not to write this new series when I read the teaser after Universe. Well, I'm glad you decided to continue and I'm looking forward to reading the other episodes. By the way, how often are you planning on posting new epsiodes, (once a week, twice a week, ... maybe everyday?) Either way, looking forward to more.
Admittedly i was awaiting word from my potential publisher about how soon i'd be able to get one of my original works published. Due to some legal issues i won't get into here, it won't be possible till mid-next year.

So that frees me up somewhat and i decided why not?

Each episode is only about 8-12k. so expect a maximum time of a week between episodes, to 3-4 days at the fastest. (Next one goes up most likely on tuesday, then friday seeing as the first one is very introspective and has little if any action, depending on how much i get done on the weekend i may even post them one day after the other.)

As you can see from the teasers above, the first half-season starts out slow and builds up. The Mid-season 3 parter is rollercoaster that starts out relatively small and builds into an almost pure action and dives face first into the main plot behind the series i have as well as establishing a few more things. Expect explosions, more explosions, and hey, i might even toss some explosions in Somewhere in that mess is the actual story that involves... you guessed it. Explosions. (Although the ending doesn't involve an explosion, it's a fitting end to a certain plot thread i'm setting up in the first 5 episodes.

One more note for readers, while there is some shippiness involved, only in the introspective episodes (which admittedly are very few) does it overpower the other aspects of the story. This is Stargate, not "As the Gate Turns" so alot happens "Offscreen" that your imaginations are going to have to fill in. I may add "Extended" or "Deleted" scenes if i feel so inclined at the end of the season

Samantha Carter: “Daniel? Is that Torren?”

Daniel Jackson: “Uhh yeah…Teyla’s helping me with organizing the refugees into their separate groups and… Ow! No no no! Don’t…Don’t…!”

Samantha Carter: “Is there… a problem?”

Teyla Emmagen: “Yes Sam… Daniel is currently…sparring with Torren over his digital pen.”

                        Samantha Carter: “Oh? Who’s winning?”

Daniel Jackson: “Who do you think? The kid’s as strong as his mom and I’m gonna need a new digipen!”

                        ------------------------------

Episode 2, Home is Where the Heart is

Pretty slow if a bit funny and introspective. I promise this is the only shippy episode! And to make up for the lack of action in it, the next episode goes up tomorrow! Read this one to get a Teaser of the next

In writing news, i'm about halfway through Episode 5 as far as first draft, it's coming out very actiony so just wait a few days/week or two and the buildup will satisfy

I know you're the "actioN" kinda fan (i don't blame ya) so i'll say that you're gonna enjoy some of hte next episode, not so much Episode 4, but Episode 5 is gonna have you tense. Episode 6? Hmm... not really, but once it hits Episode 7... the action builds up and up! All those questions i asked you about certain things in a certain occupation will come in handy

There's already a very slight crossover. given time i may increase it but in all likelyhood SGU and Dark Frontier are going to be separate. Also since we're not sure how far Destiny is from Earth (Let alone Hoag's Object) i'll have to wait and see. 2 years with a ZPM (which equals about 11 without) is theoretically achievable and will be one of the underlying themes in episodes to come (not in the first season, but i'm envisioning 5 seasons total)

Wait till around Episode 7 to get where i'm going with this. once Episode 7 comes out, the exposition and buildup grabs a hold of you and doesn't really let go
