    Default Question about Uriel

Today I stumbled on a list of Archangels, the four main ones being:
    1. Michael
    2. Gabriel
    3. Raphael
    4. Uriel

Why does this remind me of an old friend of ours? Did he get demoted?

Actually there are three main archangels: Michael (commander), Gabriel and Raphael
There are various other archangel depending on Christian, Judaen or Islamic lore.
Here you'll find more information about them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archangel

Well, it was never stated specifically that Uriel was not an archangel. Castiel called him a 'specialist', and it was quite clear that Uriel outranked him. And on the list of archangels (thanks for the link, Andron!) Uriel is listed as the 'Fire of God' and shown carrying a sword and a flame. So it sounds to me as if he'd be the one among the archangels who would eradicate towns. Uriel also threatened Sam to 'turn him to dust'.

Of course the question remains why it was so easy to kill him with that special knife, if archangels are so fierce. After all, the Ruby's knife didn't work on the higher ranking demons. So maybe Uriel was demoted, which would also explain why he was bitter enough to start this rebellion.

They didn't ever say what exactly WAS special about the angel-killing awl/dagger thing, did they?

No, they didn't. But in any case, in 5.01
    Spoiler:
    Castiel had and used it.
All Uriel said was that only an angel can kill another angel. So it might not be the weapon in itself but the person who wields it that gives it power.

Thank you for the link. And Starg8fans does bring up an interesting idea. I really do hope they reveal why his name is in common with that of an Archangel. It might be nothing but it bothered me.

I think it's just because they found a cool angel name and went with it. They didn't really think about the fact that it was an archangel at the time. However at first Castiel was in command of Uriel as well. Of course it is possible that at some point in history Uriel was mistaken as an archangel. He is quite hot headed and seems to like to take charge so maybe on of the old prophets met him once and decided "he seems like he's in charge. He must be an archangel" Of course the thing that interests me is the fact that Uriel ISN'T and Archangel, and yet Zachariah, which to my knowledge is never mentioned as an archangel in any of the abrahamic faiths, is.............I think there was possibly a bit of a mix up in research if you asked me. Of course there is such a thing as creative license though.
Please do me a huge favour and help me be with the love of my life.

True, I could see that as Kripke's explanation. But I don't really see Zachariah as an archangel. Is he? If so, where is it mentioned?

I agree, Zach doesn't strike me as archangel material. He said he's Cas' 'superior' but that doesn't mean he's in the top league. Also, Cas said archangels are fierce, they're warriors - Zach strikes me more as a bureaucrat. I also think he's just a follower in this whole angel rebellion, not a leader. It will be interesting to find out who's actually masterminding it.
