    Last 10 Days

    of Stargate March Madness....

Two and a half years ago MGM & Syfy announced SGA was cancelled. Within days, they told fans that both SG1 and SGA would live on bigger and better in movies.

Today, the movies have not been made and the entire fanchise is in trouble. And fans are mad.

SO this is it - the last 10 days of the March Madness campaign.
MGM is currently making decisions that will likely decide the future of Stargate. NOW is the time to TELL MGM that:

    - fans will not give them an easy pass on the movies,
    - the future of Stargate needs to include SG1 and SGA
    - fans still support and want more SGA and SG1

    1. MAIL a LETTER TO MGM - if you have already done this then do it again.

All the addresses can be found on our CAMPAIGN PAGE

    (Sample Letter):

    Dear Mr.

I have been a longtime fan of the MGM Stargate television series.

I want to take this opportunity to express my support of Stargate and the Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis movies that are currently on hold. Please consider greenlighting these movies as myself and fans around the world are still anxiously anticipating their release and have the desire to purchase the movies. Continuing the story of Stargate SG1 and Atlantis in movies or some other format would certainly revitalize and strengthen the franchise.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Sincerely,
    (Sign your name and address)

Thanks to everyone who participated in Stargate March Madness.
The goal was to make some noise and tell MGM that SG fans still support and want the SGA and SG1 movies - and we feel we were successful! There were GREAT tweets, LOTS of traffic on our Facebook and Campaign Websites and hopefully lots of letters.

          Stargate Reminder:
Dr McKay (David Hewlett) and Mr. Woolsey (Robert Picardo) will be guesting on SGU this week - Monday, 4/4 in the USA and Tuesday in Canada. This is a unique event since both McKay and Woolsey, while being SGA regulars, were characters that were born on SG1.
The Stargate Movies Campaign is taking the position that a show of support for this episode would be a good thing. We are asking fans to tune in to this episode and encourage others to do so too.

          SGA and SG1 on iTunes!!
Full seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis are available at temporarily reduced prices. Not sure how long this will last. This is another way to show support for SGA and SG1 and prove it can still make money. iTUNES LINK

          Campaign Updates:

          Important Reminder!
Just because the March Campaign is over that doesn't mean our support of SGA and SG1 is ending - if you did not already do so, we strongly ask that you send a letter of support to the executives in charge at MGM and Spyglass.
This is the MOST IMPORTANT thing to do.
Please check our CAMPAIGN PAGE for sample letter and addresses.

          Twitter Time!
Twitter Time was a success! We had a great response and a large increase in the number of tweets during March Madness. We offered several folks gifts for their tweets, and had a lot of fun doing that. In fact we got such a positive response that in the next week or so we will again be offering gifts for a few random tweets that support SGA, SG1 and the movies.
You will need to stay tuned to find out when!
In the meantime - keep tweeting!

          Video Contest!
Thanks to those fans who sent us videos for the contest. It will take us a week or two to go through them and get them uploaded.

Thank YOU - Stargate Fans are the Best!

            Any SGA/SG1 Movie News?
There has been no substantiated news on the SGA/SG1 movies. We know this is frustrating and disheartening. Obviously no one knows what the prospect of the movies are at the moment - except maybe Brad Wright. Brad will be at the SG Vancouver Convention this weekend. We are hoping he will make a statement regarding the SGA/SG1 movies. If not, we hope that a fan would politely ask him about the SGA/SG1 movies.

Any decision MGM renders in regard to SGA and SG1 movies will have a lot to do if they think these shows are still able to produce a profit. Well SGA has episodes still running in syndication, has a series of books coming out and had a new 2011 calendar released this year. SG1 recently had a comic book series released and is in the process of working on a new audiobook series with cast members. In other words SGA and SG1 are apparently still making money for MGM!

The fate of the movies is in the hands of MGM/Spyglass. As fans we are doing our part; We are supporting SGA and SG1. We are telling MGM, Spyglass and Syfy that fans support the movies and we are telling them fans will not give them a free pass to bury these movies. There is a strong and devoted fanbase for SG1 and SGA, lets continue to make sure TPTB hear us.

            Campaign Updates:

            1. We ask that you continue to show your support for SGA and SG1 by:

            * Buy an SGA or SG1 licensed product. DVD, iTunes, book, audiobook. If you have Netfix be sure to watch episodes there. Check out the MGM store http://shop.mgm.com/stargate/ for SG1 & SGA products and of course there is always www.amazon.com

            * Please send a letter of support for the movies to MGM and Spyglass executives. We know we sound like a broken record with this request, but it still is the most important thing to do becaase it makes the biggest impact.
Check out the CAMPAIGNS PAGE for sample letter and addresses.

            * Keep tweeting @MGM_studios and @Syfy and tell them fans still want more SGA and SG1. Use #fightforthegreenlight

            2. For the Love of Stargate Video Contest!
The Campaign is happy, proud and excited to announce that our video contest is ready to go! Videos have been uploaded, voting proceedure is ready to go and all we need is you!
Please check out the videos and vote HERE

            3. Stargate SG-1 Fan Favorite Marathon
Syfy is hosting a viewers choice all day SG1 marathon on May 3rd.
Be sure to vote for your ten fave SG1 episodes for the marathon!

              Future of Stargate
As we know, at the Vancouver Convention this past weekend Brad Wright announced there will be no SGU movie and the Stargate SG1 and Atlantis movies have been permanently shelved.

However, Brad Wright is also quoted as saying: “It’s a franchise. Stargate is not over,” he said. “Somebody smart from MGM is going to figure it out, and something will happen.”

              http://www.gateworld.net/news/2011/04/wrig...s-dead-for-now/

              Future of the Campaign
With the movies permanently shelved and no definitive action from MGM on behalf of the franchise the Stargate Movies Campaign has, in at least its present form, may have run it course. We have very much enjoyed running this campaign and we do not regret, and never will regret standing up for SG1 and SGA and trying to rally support for the movies. It may have always been a long shot but it was a shot worth taking.

We have had the opportunity to meet and work with great people. The fan involvement and support has been fantastic. Most of all it was fun. It has very much been worth it-we would not change a thing, except of course having the movies greenlighted.

The campaign does not plan to disappear or take down our shingle just yet; we, as well as most other fans, need time to grieve. We also want to take the time to celebrate and pay homage to a wonderful franchise and in particular two shows that captured the hearts, imagination and passion of fans worldwide.

We are working on a few ideas that would allow all of us to celebrate SG1 and SGA together and let MGM know how disappointed we are in their decision to not move forward with the movies.

              Is Stargate Dead?
We emphatically say NO! As long as there are passionate fans, as long as the idea and dream of stargate lives on in the hearts and imagination of fans then Stargate will never die.

We do have a few new Stargate things to look forward to. There are new SG1 audiobooks due out, there are new SGA books and the Blu Ray release of all 5 seasons of SGA. The campaign will continue to support SG1 and SGA and these new SG items. We hope fans will continue to support SG and purchase the books and the SGA Blu Ray Discs. Heck, how you go wrong, Michael Shanks on audiobook and SGA on Blu Ray?

Most of all we hope that Brad is right, that MGM will see the value of Stargate as a franchise and find a way to continue it at some point. And if we may indulge a little, we will always hope that it would involve movies with SG1 and SGA.

              To the Fans
First and foremost the Stargate Movies Campaign wants to thank all who believed in the SG1 & SGA movies and who participated in the campaign. It has not been in vain - there may be no movies in the near future but all of us took the time from our busy schedules to fight for a show we believed in. A show that ignited that spark of imagination and passion that united us all as fans. If a job of a fan is to stand up and support the show they love, then we all did that job exceedingly well. Be proud of this.

              To Brad Wright:
Thank you for 15 plus 2 seasons of Stargate.
Thank you for coming to the Convention and addressing fans directly and honestly about the present state of the franchise and lack of prospects for any movies. We know you have taken heat on some fronts regarding Stargate but we applaud you for having the integrity and decency to address fans face to face. At the very least fans deserved this, thank you.

It's Not Over YET! Campaign Activities:

              Video Contest
Our video contest and voting is in full swing. Due to the convention and Brad's announcement, we have decided to extend voting until Saturday, April 23rd, 8:00 AM EST to be sure everyone has had an opportunity to see and vote for their favorites video.
For links to the video and to place your vote please visit our CONTEST PAGE http://www.stargatemoviescampaign.com/Contests.php

              Tell MGM You Support Stargate
We are encouraging fans to let MGM know that you are unhappy over the demise of stargate. We will have some twitter messages going out and a sample letter up on the website ASAP.
Please note: this is not a campaign to make MGM bring back SG, as sadly that does not seem possible in the near future, but we can still tell MGM how disappointed we are in their decision and that fans desire to see Stargate continue.

              A Celebration of Stargate (TBA)
We are working on an idea for contests and activities that would pay tribute to Stargate and its fans. So don't go away just yet, there is still more to come.

              Sincerely,
              Major Davis, MarieWynn, EdenSG

                Just an extra note:
There have been a lot of tweets in the last 24 hours expressing the sadness and anger fans feel with no new SG in the near future. While we don't expect MGM to turn around and change their minds anytime soon, it is important to let MGM know that SG fans are disappointed and still love/support SG.

If you are using twitter, we are using #fightforthegreenlight and/or #stargate4ever in the messages.

                  May 2, 2011

Two weeks ago Brad Wright announced that Stargate will not continue in any format, show or movies, in the forseeable future. During that time we have all felt the anger, disappointment and frustration at seeing a beloved franchise end so abruptly.
Brad Wright is also quoted as saying: “It’s a franchise. Stargate is not over,” he said. “Somebody smart from MGM is going to figure it out, and something will happen,” and he encouraged fans to tell MGM that they still want Stargate.

Can Fans Keep Stargate Alive After Cancellation of Movies/Series?

As we said last week, Stargate is not dead! As long as there are passionate fans, as long as the idea and dream of stargate lives on in the hearts and imagination of fans then Stargate will never die.

This article, "10 Lessons About Life After Cancellation that Stargate Can Learn" offers good and encouraging advice and discusses how fans can help Stargate live on.

Even though there are no new movies or series for Stargate, there are still episodes in syndication, there will be viewers who will watch for the first time who will become new fans, there are still books being published and DVD/Blu Ray releases to look forward to. Fans will still write fan fic, post on message boards and enjoy episode rewinds together. Fans are the future of Stargate.

                  Stargate Tribute Celebration Contest!!!

The campaign is going to hold a contest to give fans a chance to celebrate and pay tribute to 17 great seasons of Stargate adventures. This contest will be different, bigger and more encompassing then our previous contests.

We have decided to include all three shows, SG1, SGA and SGU, in this contest. While the campaign has always been dedicated to SG1 and SGA we feel that with the demise of any new Stargate that all fans are now in the same boat. For the first time since this all started we are all facing the same thing - no new SG in the near future. So we felt it was important to celebrate, pay tribute to and miss stargate together

                  There will be three categories:

                  1. Icons
                  2. Banners
                  3. Poetry/Prose/Short Stories (600 words)

There will be one winner for each category. Prizes for these categories will be different then our previous prizes and we will announce them at a later date.

                  **NEW** GRAND PRIZE
In addition to the three category winners, we will hold a seperate vote for one grand prize winner from all the entries from all three categories. The Grand Prize will be the winner's choice of a SG1 Complete season DVD set OR SGA Complete season DVD OR SGA Complete season BluRay set OR SGU season 2 DVD set.

                  Guidelines:
                  1. Entries should depict what you feel best represents the heart and soul of stargate. The character or things you will remember the best or miss the most.

You can include limited wording in the icons or banners. examples would
"Stargate Forever" "The Greatest Characters of Stargate" "Stargate will Not be Forgotten" "Best Leaders of Stargate" "Stargate Lives On"The wording should be positive and polite.

The campaign has always been dedicated soley to Sg1 and SGA. We, to the best of our ability, tried to be sure the campaign was positive and fun. We had a lot of people involved in and who supported this campaign over the last year. Their support came in many different ways and from many different fans. It included fans that loved only SGA, fans that loved only SG1, fans who loved SG1 and SGA and fans that loved SG1, SGA and SGU.

With Brad's announcement, this appears to be the end - at least in the foreseeable future - of all things SG, so we decided to go have one last contest to:

                        1. Allow fans to mourn and celebrate - Everyone is, in their own way, dealing with the news that SG has ended, and not just SGU but also the movies. We wanted to give fans a chance to remember and celebrate the SG that they loved, a chance to say goodbye, to pay tribute to a show they loved

                        2. To thank ALL the fans that participated in and supported this campaign

                        3. Unlike how the announcement came down about SG (that's it, goodbye) we did not want to pack up and leave without some sort of farewell. We did not think that would be fair to everyone who was involved in the campaign and to all the SG fans who have been essentially left high and dry by MGM

And....We want to show we still support Stargate and encourage others to support SG too. SG does not have to die completely, fans can help to keep the show alive. We hope that SG does return one day - sooner than later- and we will always hope that that return would involve the characters we love from SG1 and SGA.

I am sorry that having one contest, the only thing we did that includes SGU is so upsetting to you. I am sorry if one year of all the hard work of this campaign to rally support for SGA and SG1 does not count. I am sorry if you feel excluded. But after the last 2 tumultuous years with fandom and now with the loss of all things SG we did not want to exclude anyone, if anything we felt this was the time to include everyone.

Stargate's future? ... from some recent interviews:

                          Article #1

Brad Wright revealed to AOL TV that the movie would have combined elements and characters from all three 'Stargate' shows, including 'Stargate: SG-1' and 'Stargate Atlantis,' to tell one big, super 'Stargate' story.

...When pressed to speculate on the future of the franchise, Wright said that studio MGM would most likely bring it back at some point, but he admitted that he was unsure if he would be asked to be a part of 'Stargate' again.

                          ARTICLE #2

Wright has hopes of his own; that (spoiler alert) stasis doesn’t mean finished.

“My feeling is that ... the concept of Stargate is too big to just let go. Somebody at MGM is going to say ‘hey we’ve got this show; let’s do something with it,’” he says. “I don’t think it’ll happen really quickly, but I think somebody is going to bring the show back.”

                          KEEPING STARGATE ALIVE AND VITAL

There may be no new Stargate to look forward to, but as long as there are passionate fans, as long as the idea and dream of stargate lives on in the hearts and imagination of fans then Stargate will never die.

This article, "10 Lessons About Life After Cancellation that Stargate Can Learn" offers good and encouraging advice and discusses how fans can help Stargate live on.

Fans can have a big part in keeping SGA and SG1 alive and vital. We encourage all fans to keep supporting Stargate.

Ways to Keep Stargate Alive and Vital:

                          1. Send MGM a Letter of Support for Stargate

                          Dear (Executive name) ,

I have been a Stargate fan for (fill in) years. I have supported the shows and franchise and have purchased (fill in )

I was saddened to hear that MGM had chosen not to continue Stargate in either TV/DVD movies or an a series. For 17 seasons Stargate has provided outstanding science fiction stories and entertainment for me, my family and countless other fans.

Please do not let a great franchise such as Stargate end. It has my support and the support of fans worldwide.

Just to be correct: I left the campaign when it was clear that one of it's heads became a SGU-fan. After some SGU-fans in my RL destroyed the SG-fanclub I was member of I really have no further interest in anything related to that so called show. Maybe I'm wrong but for me SGU killed the franchise so I really feel no need to get involved in anything that included SGU.

And....We want to show we still support Stargate and encourage others to support SG too. SG does not have to die completely, fans can help to keep the show alive. Here I am completely with you and will do nearly everything to keep the shows alive and support SG1 and SGA.

There are a good number of fans who go as far as to what some call LARP or CosPlay. Making or obtaining an SG outfit and dressing up at conventions, private gatherings, even fan films. Those of us doing this, we are working on ways to helping boost the numbers of active costumed fans while showing that we fans mean to continue to support Stargate. Generally, we are not going to let all the Star Wars and Star Trek costumed fans have all the fun.
There are some groups already - SG Ops, Jaffa Legion, Tok'Ra Resistance, Wraith Never Ending. But there are still some that can be created like for the Goa'uld, Replicators, Lucian Alliance, Ori, etc!
If you like SG, join the growing ranks of fans who do so in costume!
