    Deadpool - Discussion and Speculation

Deadpool Co-Creator Rob Liefeld Says Solo Spin-Off Is Likely

Despite the controversy surrounding the Weapon XI character in the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” insiders keep dropping hints that Ryan Reynolds will reprise his mercenary role in a standalone “Deadpool” movie, if fans pull through at the box office.

Last week via Twitter, Liefeld posted that he had spoken with “Wolverine” producers who told him there were “definite plans to spin off Deadpool if the box office works.” This was bolstered by the fact that the film’s re-shoots included more screen time for Reynolds as Wilson, who Liefield mentioned, “was chosen specifically with the idea that he would carry [a possible] solo film.”

Ryan Reynolds Wants to Take on Cable in a Deadpool Movie

“There are all kinds of villains,” Reynolds told MTV News during a “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” press event. “You’ve got Black Tom — all kinds of characters that you could really make great use of.”

Black Tom, the villainous cousin of the heroic mutant known as Banshee, is just one of many bad guys that could find their way into a ‘Deadpool’ solo film. But there’s at least one specific character that Reynolds would love to see go against Deadpool — the futuristic soldier called Cable.

Deadpool Spin Off In The Works

This is no surprise to most of us, but rumor is Fox is vamping up a Deadpool spin off.

No shocking news with this bit of information. We all knew it was coming. We all just sat there and hoped Wolverine would somewhat stay true to its source but unfortunately that was just not the case. So the next question is: What will fox do to Deadpool, if he were to get his own film? Well, those answers are still somewhat unclear. What is clear is that Fox is planning a Deadpool spin off with Ryan Reynolds. At least they are keeping Ryan, he did a great job with what he had to work with in X-Men Origins Wolverine. It wasn't his fault the Writers and Producers muddled everything up. Fox needs to show Deadpool with his mask on. I cannot stress this point enough.

'Deadpool' spinoff in works at Fox

Fresh off the muscular performance of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" at the boxoffice, Fox has thrown into development a spinoff featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds.

Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called "Deadpool." Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios would act as producers.

Rob Liefield On Deadpools Movie Treatment

What was the Image Comics co-founder's reaction to Deadpool’s first appearance on the big screen...

“I have a scale, with worst possible interpretation of a character being Halle Berry as Catwoman, to best possible interpretation of a character being Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Ron Perlman as Hellboy, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, or Christian Bale as Batman,” Liefeld told MTV News. “I would put Deadpool, in this inception, much closer to the side where they got it right.”

Liefeld praised the movie’s version of Deadpool as being true to his initial vision for the wisecracking mercenary — and explained why the character audiences saw at the end of the film isn’t actually that far off.

“When I created Deadpool, the entire backstory that was pitched was that he was the junk left over from a bad Weapon X experiment,” Liefeld explained. “When I look at the film, there’s no reason he can’t go and become that guy I created.”

However, that’s not to say that director Gavin Hood and the film’s writers got off without any criticism from Liefeld.

“Look, katanas coming out of the hand? Not a fan. But you get over it,” he admitted. “Do I believe Deadpool will be shooting optic blasts out of his eyes down the road? No, I don’t believe he will.”

New Light Shed On The Typhoid Mary Rumor

"Thanks to MutantNinjaLoungeSinger for following up on the recent Katee Sackhoff as Typhoid rumor. MNLS points out that, while the character originated with and is strongly linked to 'Daredevil', she's also recently been a sidekick of sorts to 'Deadpool'. Furthermore she's shown up in disguise as recent "black ops" member of 'The Avengers'.

We know 20th Century Fox likely holds the film rights for the character as they previously utilized her in 'Elektra', so it seems less likely she'd appear in the 'Avengers' flick. Fox seems hot-to-trot on 'Deadpool' after the buzz he created in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' so that could be a very real possibility."

Ryan Reynolds actively working on Deadpool

Within days of X-Men Origins: Wolverine being released 20th Century Fox announced that they were developing a Deadpool spin-off, with Ryan Reynolds back playing the Merc with the Mouth. Since then we haven’t heard anything more about it, however Reynolds recently spoke to HitFix and it seems he is pretty involved creatively.

“Well, I’m intimately involved with it. We’re just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff. But, it’s going to be just like the comic books. I’m gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that’s the goal. And there is no better place to draw material from then the comics which are incredible.”
