    How come Hammond was never made a full 4 star General?

    probably because the show never needed it.

    also, i believe, in the real world, there are only so many 4 star generals....let's pic a number out of thin air and say 40, if there can only be 40 at a time, then george couldn't have gotten promoted until someone retired or died

      I thought that I read somewhere once that if you were a general, you were either promoted or retired after 4 years or so. There wasn't a choice. The president or Air Force secretary could grant a one year extension, but after that the general had to either get promoted or retire.

      Was Hammond ever promoted from 2-star while he was at the SGC?
