    Star Trek questions

I know that Dr. Cochrane invented or created warp drive on Earth, and I'm guessing that the Vulcans had warp drive by the time they detected Cochrane's warp signature, and that other races independently created warp, but my friend, an avoid Trekker, said that the Vulcans did not have warp when they discovered Cochrane and used impulse engines, and since they lived longer than humans, didn't worry about time.

Also, I remember hearing that humans created the transporters and the other alien races adopted our tech. Does anyone know if this is true?

The Vulcans had warp capabilty by the time Sputnik was launched ("Carbon Creek") and as for the transporter, a human named Emory ("Deadalus") invented the transporter for Earth, but other races probably invented it independently.

Zefram created it for Earth, and Vulcans and humans then created the Warp 5.5 engine. The fastest to date. Zefram would later venture out into space, and live for over 150 years.

Like others have said, Cochrane created the first warp engine on Earth. Vulcans, Klingons, Andorians and god knows who else already had warp capability. In regards to all the familiar Trek aliens, humans came pretty late to the party. I'm also pretty sure that most other species can go beyond warp 5. It's just the first time humans have built a warp engine capable of it.

The upcoming episode "Daedelus" will have the guy who invented the human transporter. Just like with warp drive, Vulcans, Andorians, Klingons and a bunch of others already had transporter technology.
MCKAY: We need the Zed PM to power the Gate.

        O'NEILL: What?

        JACKSON: ZPM. He's Canadian.

        O'NEILL: I'm sorry.

I hate how humans are the lamest of the lame. Why can't we be the ones who invented at least one cool piece of tech first?

Once the Federation is founded, that changes.

Which they must have invented recently.
Because in 'The Andorian Incident' Archer asks T'Pol if the Andorians have transporters and she says no.

If the Andorans didn't have transporters they sure did a great job of using stolen technology in 2 years. They were able to beam Surak into a chair while the humans still need to use the transporters pads. It's far more likely T'Pol was wrong.
And yes humans aren't really great at anything in the ST universe they are just good at everything. Which is why they are number 1. They aren't specialists just all around competent. How else would the Federation grow to the large or if you believe the website the totally unbelievable size that it grows to by the time of TNG?

Ha! I was just about to say that before I read this.

As said, the people on Enterprise wouldn't have noticed the teleport in "Kir'Shara" since their teleporter technology is different. That might also be because only warships had Teleporter capabilities, yet since they don't seem to be the same as the humans' they don't read as teleporter tech.

There's a million other reasons that defy your theory.

                          Um, what theory?

It's a fact that T'Pol said Andorians didn't have Transporters in season one.

T'Pol also said that Pa'nar was an incurable disease. Yet we learned in "Kir'Shara" that those were just lies spread by the High Command, and that there was indeed a cure. So for all we know she could've been lied to by the High Command about the Andorian's having transporters. What I think is far more likely is that the writers forgot that one line back in the first season saying Andorian's didn't have transporters, just like I forgot
