    SGU might start late

I heard this on the news, so i googled it. there is another looming actors/writer strike. Since MGM is American the writers/actors might be on strike. Now im sure that the writers would write at home, so everybody can get back in gear when the strike ends but oh well, what can we do to the world.

technically, 'writing at home' would violate the terms of the strike.

what some choose to do privately is up to them, however i doubt any of them will go pubic saying that they're working when they shouldn't be.

I think it is a actors strike that is looming ahead, so wrighting wont be effected i think.
We need a Zed-PM to power the gate.

Wasn't it pointed out earlier that the writers and actors were mostly with canadian unions?

i think most of them are, but i'm unsure if Brad & co have SAG cards or not.

Personaly? I don't see a strike happening. Right now, when people are getting laid off right and left, to have those with the image of 'making tons of money' complaining that it's not enough....doesn't go over well.

Take a look at Major League Baseball and see how their image has suffered from their strike of 10 years ago. Your random, average person had little sympathy for ball players that complained that their 175,000K a year starting salary (and that's for the no-name players, the 'stars' made tons more) just wasn't enough.

It doesn't matter if your average writer/generic actor only makes 50-100,000 a year, that's still more than a lot of us make, and when they're 'throwing fits' demanding more money when lots of us don't even have jobs...well sympathy is in short supply.

IMHO, if they strike, they will do more harm to their long term image than they can mend

                It was stated during the writers strike that most of the writing staff on SGA was Canadian and not effected. However this is the SAG, Screen Actors Guild, and that effects actors. Which are mostly Americans;

In an interview earlier this year concerning the SAG strike:
Joseph Mallozzi: Oh no, it will definitely affect the show. I mean, the majority of our regulars are SAG. I believe we could do the show with Zelenka and Lorn which I’m sure a lot of the fans would like but after two or three episodes, I think they will get a hankering to see our regulars. So, in response to your question – yes a SAG strike will affect production.

If there is a strike, it won't last very long, and since SGU isn't slated to begin until Feb, I think they will be OK. At the worst it gives them more time to work on the writing, set/costume design etc.

The actors strike should not effect the writing. If anything Universe might benefit from one for more time

well every show can benefit from more time for its writers but it all just depends on who they cast and whether they are from america or canada

A SAG strike would very likely effect the production of SGU. SGU is to begin production around the beginning of Feb and most insiders agree that SAG would likely call a strike in Jan/Feb as this is award show season and this is when a strike would have the most impact.

Also SAG, prior to any strike, is asking all members not to work for unsupportive producers. It is telling members not to work for any “producer which is not a signatory to an appropriate union contract” and that starting Jan 1st the union will vigourously enforce this rule. I wonder if this is impacting contract negotiations with the new cast?

Also, while the Writers Guild of America is not set to strike it is most unhappy with the studios and producers right now. They say the producers & studios have reneged on the contract agreement reached last year that ended the writers strike.

“…the WGA announced it would file a complaint against producers, alleging the AMPTP has not paid new media residuals that were key to a contract agreement reached last spring. New media formulas are also the stumbling block for a contract between producers and actors”

I have to wonder if the writers would support the actors strike and walk off the job, part in sympathy for the actors but also to protest their latest problems with studios and producers.
