First footage of James Marsters in Caprica

Syfy has released a new trailer for Caprica, and it includes the first footage of James Marsters as terrorist leader Barnabus Greeley. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but it's worth keeping your eyes peeled for when Marsters says that "Someone's dying today." (And the rest of the trailer ain't too shabby, either.)

The series will premiere with a two-hour pilot that is already available as a standalone DVD. Eight additional hours of “Caprica” will air through March. Then the show will take a break and the remaining nine hours of “Caprica’s” first season will air some time in the second half of 2010.

If you’ve done the math in the previous paragraph, you’ve realized that “Caprica’s” episode order has been reduced by one hour. Syfy had originally commissioned a total of 20 hours for Season 1, but the show, which is currently in production on the last third of the season in Vancouver, will now consist of 19 hours.

I guess losing one episode isn't too horrible.

Caprica - Jane Espenson Steps Aside as Showrunner

Syfy once said it was excited to have former "Battlestar Galactica" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" writer Jane Espenson take on showrunning duties for its upcoming prequel show "Caprica." But apparently, that excitement may have been short-lived.

Espenson is out as showrunner, replaced by Kevin Murphy, who joined "Caprica" last month as a co-executive producer to work on the second half of the show's first season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Espenson is not leaving the show, however. She will remain an executive producer with Murphy and "Battlestar Galactica" developer Ronald D. Moore. Instead, according to a Syfy spokeswoman, Espenson wanted to focus more on writing than management.

"She and Kevin switched up duties a bit during the second half of 'Caprica' Season 1," a Syfy spokeswoman told Airlock Alpha. "Jane decided to get back into some more intensive writing rather than running the room, and so ... Kevin has been taking a bit more of a lead in breaking stories as a result."

However, the spokeswoman added, this is simply "business as usual." It "doesn't change anything," she said. "And Jane, along with Ron and David, is still an exec producer."

I sound like she was managing the show poorly. Considering they already cut one episode, either because of time or because of money, it not susprising they are shaking up the management team an bringing in someone else.

I suspect that if the show does not take off they will bringing in new writers to do something else with the BSG universe.

I don't know, I'm on the fence here. I'm not an Espenson fan much or anything, but the guy they brought in to replace her was an executive producer on 'Desperate Housewives'. That's... a very dissimilar series.
If you've seen a Jeff O'Connor or a JeffZero or a Jeff Zero or a JeffZeroConnor elsewhere on the net, there's a considerable chance it's me.
