The Mirror Universe and Terran Empire

Obviously quite well endowed throughout the 22nd Century, with multiple NX class vessels, along with a future Constitution Class. We also know that during the early 23rd century, we've got the TOS Terran Empire (see the TOS episode).

Between TOS and DS9 we know very little, apart from the fact that the Terran Empire somewhere, was defeated. The next major power / alliance we've got is the joint Cardassian-Klingon Alliance. The Mirror O'Brien etc created their own Defiant, and with it, fended off an Alliance attack.

My question, is where do the Terrans go from here? If they created another Terran-based storyline after the DS9 events, where do you picture the Terran Empire?

Human's joining the Dominion; then eventually overthrowing the Changling Leaders (with the virus they used in our Universe) and commanding the Vorta/ Jem Ha'dar/ etc as their own personal army against the Cardassians/ Klingons.

    Jem Ha'dar piloting "Federation" ships

Then reforming the Terran Dominion, or something.

    This sounds poorly contrived. xD
