I think you have to wait... because things like PM and reputation are also offlimits for probies. But they just need to know whether you're a person and not a bot and you'll be able to experience the full set of benefits soon.

There's a wide variety of avatars awaiting your release from probie-ness. Custom ones are only available after a certain amount of posts made -- used to be around 2000. Don't know if that's still the case but I think it is. Off-Topic posts don't count towards posts made (just an FYI).

It's a bit harder to reach these days, but you're always welcome to, f.e. join in discussing the episodes again with us if you're interested (SG-1). Posted jigsaws too, they can slowly rake up your postcounts.
