all we know is that some of them dont have shields but cloaks. just like some cargo ships dont have cloaks. and maybe when ba'al changed the timeline he gave the alkeshes shields. or they very well could have converted the cloak. we know its possible b/c they did it on atlantis to a puddle jmper.
