I wasn't sure what to make of this. It tried to be more then just a double length episode, and had bit more of a budget then a double ep I would think, but at the same time it didn't feel cinematic in quality. I think I was hoping for something a bit more epic and for something to blow me away.
On the otherhand compared to a lot of films made for the Sci Fi channel, it was quite good.
My main gripe I would say is the replicator arc felt forced, like they felt the story of the Ori wasn't enough to sustain the film. And I thought the ending was nowhere near as good as the ending of the last official episode of SG1. The ending here felt a bit glib. "Here we go to save the universe again, yay!"
I love the Stargates and maybe I hyped this up in my mind too much. I think it needed a bigger budget to give it that cinematic quality it deserves. I think it may have also needed a movie screenwriter to work with the show writers from the show, again so it had a more cinematic quality. And again it needed a movie director. Some TV show writers and directors just don't transition that well into making movies, and I think AoT showed that.
As it stands I'm in no rush to watch this again, I've been focusing more on Atlantis at the mo.
