Time Travel within Lost

Now, having seen episode five, of season four, it is quite apparent that time travel is very much apart of the show. However, is it not true, that back in season one or two, the writers debunked this theory?

Contradicting themselves a little bit here aren't they?

I don't recall any such remark being made. They did say that all the happenings on Lost could be explained by science, however; many mistook this as current day's science and not "science fiction." Where anyone honestly thought a giant black smoke monster could be explained away by our standards today is beyond me.

They are however; trying to make the "science" used in the show seem relatively plausible in most respects such as time-travel and a magnetic field, which would be required for time-travel or bending space-time. They've also managed to stop the "paradox" problems by saying your consciousness is transferred to a previous time of your existence.
