I'm going to go all geeky and say this.
At the end they defeat the spiders by draining the whole Thames
into that hole to the centre of the Earth. But given time and
distance wouldn't most of the water have evaporated by the time
it gets to the bottom of the shaft, which itself is problematic because
how could it have survived all these years and not been moved by
earth tremors / quakes and such.
Also the deeper you go the hotter it would get.... I wonder how long
it would take to drop down the hole?
And if you reach the dead centre of the Earth, just wondering
wouldn't that be a null gravity area?
