What Does Major General O'Neill do all day?

Well we know that as Secretary of Homeworld Security that he is the commanding officer overseeing the: Antarctic Outpost, Stargate Command, Atlantis, the F-302 units and Earth's Battle Cruisers. Yet while we've seen two years of the SGC & 2.5 years of Atlantis post-his appointment we rarely see or hear about him. So what is his day to day like?

Map out an ordinary day in the life of General O'Neill based on what you believe he does.

Plays gulf and rinks a few beers--then goes home and watches TV. Puts on Stargate whatever and laughs at how off the show is from their program.

He wakes up, has eggs and beer and some other food, goes to work, plays with magnets, ignored memos, folds and throws paper planes, heads back home, drinks beer, plays chess against himself, watches the simpsons and goes to bed.

        gets up
        reads paper and has breakfast
        drives to the Pentagon
        talks to his secretary
signs stuff (most of which he barely reads)
calls Landry and Hammond (maybe sometimes Cassie? and what about Sam?)
        misses Thor
        lunch
the afternoon's pretty much the same as the morning
        drives home
        orders pizza
        watches the Simpsons
        drinks Guinness
        falls asleep on couch

In all honesty, it's probably paperwork and inspections all day with no break. He's usually been depicted as lazy and stupid on the surface, with that being a bit of a guise, and being serious and intelligent deep down. So he probably does a lot of stuff, and when he sees people pretends like he's not doing much lol.

besides doing his regular work (don't ask me what it is ), he thinks of ways to either a- sneak over to atlantis to visit his wife sam, or b- thinks of ways for sam to come visit hubby jack on earth.

this is what you get when you ask a shipper this question.

Stands to reason his primary duties are as folows:

                A. Review Reports from main bases
                -General Hank Landry, SGC
                -Col. Samantha Carter, Atlantis

                B. Oversee DSC-304 program
-Repairs (Col. Caldwell can't have nice things)
                -Maintenance
                -Upgrades from Asgard database
                -New Ship Construction
-Approval of ship missions (Col. Caldwell, Ellis, etc. would have to report
to someone directly in the Air Force chain of command- they're not
beholden to the Atlantis leader or even Gen. Landry. It would not be
inconsistent with canon to say every single 304 mission is personally
                approved by O'Neill)

                C. Integration of Alien Technology/Contracted manufacturing
                -Devlin Medical technologies
                -Colson avionics
                -Other companies not yet named

                D. Developing USAF/Earth policies on extraterrestrial contact.

                E. Liason to International Oversight Agency*

                F. Reporting to the Pentagon and United States Senate* on the progress of the Department of Homeworld Security.

(* denotes something that would require many and frequent meetings and presentations)

                -------------------

Seems to be that General O'Neill is actually a very busy man, when it gets right down to it.

He probably hides "War & Peace" inside a Superman book .

When he sees someone walking by his office, he goes from working on his "Wraith making it to Earth Contingency Plan" to fake napping .

Ralier was probably closest IMHO. I somehow think that Jack only oversees all this stuff, he's probably got lots of aids and probably a director of the Starship Program, Director of the 302 Program, Commander of SGC, Commander of Atlantis etc. that he only needs to ok top top things like massive attacks, deployment of nukes etc.

Agreed. He's based out of the pentagon. He's going to meetings, shaking hands, signing paper work. All manner of administrative stuff.
I'm not an actor. I just play one on TV.

If that's the case I'm wondering why he hasn't taken another suicide mission by now.
