Tom Back back as Dr Who in the 90"s?

I dont want to get known for telling and talking tales about things Dr Who related. But another interesting story Doctor Who related is thus:

Back in the 90's a number of independant tv production company's bided to be the independent tv company the BBC said would be asked to produce Doctor Who for the future.

This as most may recall went on for several years untill the rights and aggrement for the 96 tv movie were granted back in 1995.

But it seems that Tom Baker apparently\may have agreed to play the part of the doctor again back in 1993\94.

Now some\many may well think this is utter bo!!ock$. But a late 90's edition of the cult magazine TV Zone had an article about the story. And the evidence you may ask?, a copy of the contract between Tom Baker and the independent tv production company who very near got the rights to make Doctor Who was printed in the mag.

Now does anyone else recall this rather interesting story from the 90's?.

That's the Dark Dimension, which was touted in the early 90s as a TV movie in 1993. It would have featured an alternate 'wrong' reality where an aged and burnt out Fourth Doctor had secluded himself from the increasingly violent and despairing universe.

The climax would have seen him realize that history had been tampered with when the evil force involved saved the Doctor's life years before. He travels back in time to the radio telescope he nearly fell from in this timeline and throws himself off - somehow (it's not very well thought out really) passing quickly through his fifth and sixth incarnations to become the Seventh Doctor again, and act which (again, somehow) puts history right and restores the universe.

It was scuppered by contractual wrangling and eventually the budgetless, senseless Dimensions in Time was made instead.

My God. That is absolutely fantastic! It is brilliant, why on earth did they not go through with it, it would have been the ultimate Doctor Who movie and a great exploration of time travel and the Whoniverse. Shame it couldn't happen.
