Bionic Womans forum dies on it's arse ?

I've never been one to protest against a show before I fully see it but from what I've seen of Bionic Woman I am not looking forward to it, and the pilot stinks. Scifi has backed some pretty lame scifi like Painkiller Jane and Bonnie Hammer's new FlashGordon stinks. Bionic Woman will be another dark, un-original, low rated series that never takes off and I'm not looking forward to some lame British soap opera actress named Michelle Ryan.

I'm writing this thread as a protest because I think Gateworld already has too many sub-forums. Well respected shows like the old Babylon-5, the new Heroes (good series based on a thrilling dark comicbook drama) and Firefly (wonderful scifi by Whendon) have a huge fanbase, yet these scifi shows only have about 500 topics and 12,000 posts between them.

The SG1-Characters-and-Relationships section or even StarTrek sections outrank these subforums even if you combine all their posts. Bionic Woman is going to fizzle out fast, it will have a low fanbase and I've seen just about enough of David Eick with his boring Xena work and his Galactica was entertaining for a while before it became a dull soap opera more like MelroseSpace. Miguel Ferrer must be getting desperate to have taken such a role.

Your opinion and your prediction are duly noted. Let's wait and see how the show actually does once it airs.

Agreed! I am looking forward to this show. Unlike Flash this shows changes look like something that will bring many great show. But after how bad Flash was I am a little gun shy until the show is out now.

Sorry Darren that I have not embraced this area... I think it's going to be great but NBC and Sci Fi have been so hit a miss...

I really want to see it. I used to watch Michelle Ryan on the British soap she was on as a chavvy teenager, it will be good to see her in something more intense. I've never seen Katee Sackhoff in anything else, plus JR Bourne is guest-starring. Can't wait.

I am looking forward to it as well and will definately give it a chance before I make up my mind.

Yeah, I learnt my lesson with James Bond: Casino Royale. When I heard that Q and Moneypenny weren't going to be in it and because I'd only seen Daniel Craig in Tomb Raider, I was really sceptical about it, but now it's one of my favourite films. The same with Transformers, I thought it would be really cheesy when actually it wasn't IMO. I only now make up my mind after I've seen something.

While I don't really understand why there is a subforum for a show that hasn't even premeired yet, I say give it a chance before blasting it.

Judging by the fact that the Alternate Universes section has been relabeled "Scifi Stream" and that every description for every folder in this section contains a link to Darren's newest project (Scifi Stream), I don't think it's hard to figure out. The rules have obviously been changed in order to promote/accommodate Scifi Stream, although I find it ironic that while things like the relatively long gone B5 and the hasn't-even-premiered-yet Bionic Woman have their own folders, Star Wars (which is bigger than both of them combined and, I think, has a new project in the works) is still getting shafted.

I'm looking forward to BW, but I think it's jumping the gun a bit to give it its own folder NOW when there isn't that much to discuss (or nothing that couldn't be covered by the original thread). Maybe it's some kind of time-saving thing to spare Darren the effort of creating a folder later, but it still seems gun jumpy.

I'm also very sorry to see the AU section so thoroughly subsumed. Didn't actually notice the title change until just now. *sigh* Ah well, that's progress for you.

I believe we will one day have a section, BUT only when Star Wars has a TV show. That is the only common link to all the areas in SciFi Stream. And Star Wars has not had that. But it will next year with the cartoon and the year after that with the live action. Patents my friend we will have it in time.

Yeah, that's kinda what I meant: there's a new show in the works. Obviously television is the only thing that really matters around here. And maybe movies. I still think it's a bit asinine and very fussy to not include it now. Might not have much interest in the section myself, but I imagine quite a few others would, and it seems a bit unfair to go through this big expansion and STILL not include one of the biggest cult/genre franchises out there. There was already a Clone Wars cartoon wasn't there? So it isn't as if SW has been completely dead on television. It aired more recently than anything from B5, didn't it?

Whatever. I guess the question is: Is Bionic Woman the exception or the rule? If it's an exception, fine, but if it's the rule then Star Wars isn't the only show/franchise that should have its own folder- it's just the most obvious one.

Exactly, that was part of the point I was trying to make - I think GW already has too many sub forums. Why give one to bionicwoman when there are largers fanbases for Starwars, Comicbooks and cartoon genre like Hulk/Batman J-anime, or a subforum for Scifi novels. I think the net fanbase aren't large enough to support more subforums dedicated to a show like Bionic woman and there are not enough fans to justify it.
Part of the reason I think BionicWoman was so hyped up is because the Brits watch a show called Eastenders and there was also a small hardcore group of fans coming from the Battlestar remake. The Battlestar remake from Eick/Moore starred KateeSackhoff, it had the potential to be a top scifi show but quickly became a dull soap opera mid way into Season-2. You can download the Bionic woman, it's dreadful, another Skiffy dud like PainkillerJane and FlashGordon. The original six-million-dollar/bionic woman (which weren't even great to begin with) at least were original and could stand on their own feet without the marketeering and hype. Just what are these people smoking that makes them think such garbage is acceptable in replacing the original.

There is a thread in the Forum Announcements folder where we already had this conversation about Star Wars getting its own folder. Short version: Yes, this is a television-driven site, so when we get closer to the CG Clone Wars and the live-action series, it'll happen.

Shadow has keenly perceived that with SciFi Stream and its more experimental nature, the rules for sub-folders have changed. In that thread I actually spelled them out explicitly.

Bionic Woman is getting a folder before it has aired as an experiment, and it probably won't be the only show to have that. The goal is to promote the show in the weeks leading up to its highly publicized premiere, and to already have a spot where sci-fi fans can talk about it at 9:59 p.m. on September 26. Otherwise, the new fans we're trying to attract will simply find someplace else to go.

It's pre-planning. If NBC gets even mediocre ratings for Bionic Woman, it's going to be watched by somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 to 12 million people. That's four or five times Stargate's total U.S. audience at its height.

Star Wars fans already have plenty of favorite forums to visit, and while I'm sure we have enough SW fans here already that a folder could be successful, it probably wouldn't attract any new members.

As for B5, the difference is that there still are new projects coming out, so it isn't long gone. The Lost Tales Part 1 just came out less than a month ago, and more are almost sure to follow.
