Beckett Re: A Thread For Custom Figures - 7 inch Dr Carson Beckett

    Hullo folks,

I have been mightily impressed by the work people have put into their customs in this thread, and the larger 12 inch scale figures are frighteningly good! Moony, Jersey and especially you Blues, all of you stick all in my mind in this regard especially. However, as a 7 inch collector there is one character I am still hopping mad we did not officially get, and I am pleased to present my finally completed version of him alongside the other 7 inch characters.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I at last, present Doctor Carson Beckett! Picture 4 also shows Professor E Weir and Major Laura Cadman I did quite a while ago...

Ah, that's the £64,000 question Timespirit! If you are asking where I got a suitable head to boil and pop - I didn't!

I took pictures all through the construction process, and intend to set up a "How to a make" Thread soon with links to the pics in my flickr account once they are uploaded. Feel free to guess in the meantime. I am just hoping I have caught the "essence" of the character in the likeness. It was tough going at times.

Well, I think you did a great job catching his look!

I'll be loking for your update on this then.

Have you noticed if anyone has made a 12" Rodney action figure or a place to get 12" Action Bodies (not ebay or at least if Ebay sellers in the US) in the US?

Wow! very nicely done. I'm definitely looking forward to your thread. Ok i'll take a guess, is it Anders from battlestar gallactica?

Could you tell me where you bought the action figure stands by any chance? Are they a tight hold?

    Thanks, guys!

JediKnutt, you're welcome to use any of these recipes. I'm an Admin over at BtVSFigs Forum, and our philosophy is always to share recipes and tips freely. It improves everyone's inspiration and expertise. We just give a simple acknowledgement to whoever came up with the recipe, the first time we use it (i.e. Thanks to x for the head recipe), but not after that.

I have a "How To" thread on my website, if you'd like more tips. And in the same section there are step-by-step guides to sculpting and painting, plus using lights and scenic water:

    http://www.sashacustoms.co.uk/home/about/how-to

Timespirt, the simple black stands came with NECA Harry Potter figures. Where necessary, I drilled a small hole in the right heel of the figure to match the size of the stand peg. They are very steady and don't fall over. I find it best to always provide a stand with any figure that has sculpting clay on it, to avoid any breakages.

I had picked up stands for marvel action figures figuring they would be a good fit since the Stargate Action figures already have holes in the bottom of the feet but the holes in there feet were too big to stand on the marvel stands (they kept falling over and there is only one peg hold not 2). I can't understand them making the effort to put the holes in if they don't sell stands for them. Is there any place to just buy stands that would fit them so I don't have to buy more action figures to get stands (or do they sell the stands alone?)? If there is where would I be able to buy them?

Also, would you know if anyone has made any custom Rodney McKay 12” action figures heads by any chance?

Any info on the above 2 items would be very much appreciated and I thank you MsBig for telling me about the Harry Potter stands

Hey Timespirt! I'm sorry, I can't help you with either problem.

I get my supplies the usual way, just by buying action figures on eBay or from Amazon, etc. Some come with stands, and some don't. And I don't know anyone customising Stargate at 12" scale.

I'm late but wanted to say that those Stargate customs are really great and all are so fitting.

I do have that naked guy you used for "One false step" as well - great idea for usage!

    Hullo all,

sorry I have not been online for ages, I have been very busy with other things. - I haven't forgotten my promise, I have just finished creating and editing converged pics of the shots I took while making Dr B. I did this to save space, and for easy reference for yourselves on Flickr. Its now good to go! I am ready to start showing you how I did it, and hopefully, you'll make your own for your collections too.

Boom Stick - a good guess, but Nope! Keep guessing, the answer is coming soon! Ironically, if anyone does have a spare Anders head please let me know, I am plotting another custom that would use one!
