Yes. Tom Hanks would so not fit into the Trek! He's a great actor and all but... he doesn't have Trek vibes.

I second that -- and if he was to appear in it, it won't even hit close to warp 1

Someone that understands and breathes ST is needed at the helm to make this work.

I tend to disagree- I'd have to say that Tom Hanks is far more suited to Star Trek then any other established major star- he has a history with space-oriented films- Apollo 13, Magnificent Desolation, (I think there was something else). He clearly has interest in space travel films, and there's a head start above most other established names- and I think there was something on SPACE where he was talking about Star Trek and it's influence etc. (this was awhile back), so at least he knows what Star Trek is. I wouldn't necessarily put him in front of the camera, but to have him on as producer would give Trek a huge boost.

I wouldn't be opposed to having Hanks in a Trek film; I think he would do well. I would pass judgment after I saw it.

Maybe, It would be hard to picture him in Star Trek though

I just hope it will be a new cast and set about 20 years in the future.

In the future compared to what, now? Or one of the previous Treks?

                                That's cause he's the every-man.
In Trek, there's a deep exploration of different, if not mainly, flawed characters.
Though it's not always like that. There's always a REALLY nice starship or something. Or maybe the same starship, again and again..
