So many hive ships are blowing up. Do the wraith need a super hive ship? Thoughts?

    In "The Hive" and
    Spoiler:
in the new seasons of both shows, several
hive ships blow up. "The Pegasus Project", "No Man's Land"
    "Misbegotten".

Wouldn't this deliver a message to the wraith that they need
better ships? Think of it this way:

The Jaffa served the Goa'uld well until SG-1 and all the other
alien races started fighting against them. This was the time
period where Anubis, the smartest Goa'uld of them all, finally said,
"okay, we are not just fighting villagers and farmers anymore, it's
time for a change." (A quote from one of the SG-1 Producers
in a commentary of SG-1 Season 7's "Evolution Part 1")
Then the Kull Warrior was introduced. With that, Anubis
began an unstoppable conquest of the galaxy.

What I'm saying is that the wraith probably weren't prepared
to fight an enemy as formidable as the Atlantis team.
If the wraith are going to win some battles, I'd suggest that
they build a larger, shielded hive ship that could carry some
    upgraded wraith darts.

The super hive ship's main systems, such as the hyperdrive
generators, would be built inside the ship so that
    Spoiler:
Sheppards easy act of targeting the hive ship's
generators in "No Man's Land" can't happen again.

    - Security systems would be tightened so that "The Hive"
    stunts of throwing-the-knife-at-the-control-panel-to-
    set-you-free won't work.

As for the Wraith Darts, they would also be shielded so that they
cannot be easily destroyed by the F-302's missiles
    Spoiler:
as, again, demonstrated in "No Man's Land".

Plus they would be faster and have additional thrusters for increased
    maneuverability in space.

Yes, the Wraith do put up a good fight now, but
what about the future? I just pulled this thought randomly
    out of my hat.

I always thought that the Wraith were more dependant on numbers than technology.

We know the Deadalus can stand toe to toe (albeit limitedly) to one, maybe two hive ships. Since early season 2, the wraith haven't attacked in the numbers from previous episodes - like in groups of 10 hive ships.

Anyway, I doubt there's a real need to upgrade hive ships, so long as they stay in formidable numbers. However, since they have an enemy that in some ways can challenge them, they probably will upgrade.

But I doubt they'd upgrade their fighters to the extent you make out. They have hundreds, possibly thousands of fighters that can swarm - so are designed to be cheap and expendable, but numerous.

The wraith have been dorment for thousends of years, maybe there ship building facilitys were destroyed years ago thus preventing them from making such radical chanes to there ships, the wraith haves lost all ther infrastucture which would explain why they are so relient on there ships and are reluctent to experement whith them.
Prometheus, you were so cool so why did you have to go get your self destroyed? OH CURSE YOU CRULE WORLD!!!!

Well the current civil war and fighting the atlantis expedition
        Spoiler:
        and the newly revealed Asurans
may force the Wraith to adapt and change. Against the Lanteans I doubt seeking a technological advantage would have even been possible considering how powerful and how much knowledge the Lanteans had. So considering how more primitive humans and they might be facing the equal Wraith factions so the different hives might try to seek a technological advantage now.

If they make a superhive, then we may need more daedalus class ships in pegasus. Judging from what we've seen the wraith do, I would imagine we might be able to take on a superhive with maybe 4 daedalus class ships. This begs me to ask the question, will atlantis get any more DSC-304's or will we have to make due with the daedalus for the time being?

the wraith don't need a superhive yet. The deadalus can barely stand a one on one situation.
            Spoiler:
And the asurans, i think until their plan to deal with the wraith starts hundreds of years will go by. And i doubt their chances would be much bigger against the asurans even with a superhive.

I think the wraith need better tactics rather than bigger ships. We've seen the hives are extremely powerful but lack the ability to move fast enough, I think we should see more from their cruisers, that can match the daedalus in speed and surpass it in weapons. I don't see what a supership will achieve for them other than a bigger target for the tauri to shoot at.

Ignore super ships, i want to see just how many hives there are. Let face it, the Atlantis team has wiped out loads without much effort, why did the ancients with massively better weapons have so much problems. They had atleast 2 ships of the orian (or however you spell it) class, which from the evidence we have seen could have together taken out dozens if not more hives.

They also had atleast 2 city ships, each with loads of drones, why did the other city ship get abandoned and why wasn't it distroyed by the wraith. On the map of the combat it states that the ancients could survive everything the waith throw at atlantis but could fight back and ended up only have atlantis left, why didn't it say 2 city's remaining.

I think they had alot more than 2 orion class ships

as we saw loads battering the asuran city in 'progeny

Yeah i know, so what gives. The only thing i can think of is that the wraith were almost beaten by the ancients, but they didn't know it. Without huge numbers of humans to feed on the waith have been unable to grow back to their old numbers.

Perhaps they did have a lot of numbers...because 12 ships isnt exactly a mighty navy that can sweep the stars clear. The odds might have been something like 6 hiveships for 1 aurora ship.

The Daedalus isnt really a combat vessel assigned to the Pegasus Galaxy in a sense. Its more of a ferry, resupplying Atlantis with food, weapons, information, personel (and marines ofcourse ). Its only used to fight of the Wraith when its in the P.Galaxy, and unfortunately it isnt there all the time. It was lucky that at the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3, the deadalus was at Atlantis.

So in a sense you question should really be, when will fully get a DSC - 304 fully assigned to Atlantis, and not a ferry between galaxies.

Also another kool point, I like the fact they used the Odessey to take SG-1 to Atlantis, and not the Daedalus. Looks like the Odessey is getting quite a reputation (adds one wraith hive, to the kill tally).

And to Tobi, I think that the DSC - 304, can handle there own agaisnt a Wraith ship, maybe not two but definately agaisnt one hive. Otherwise the Daedalus wouldnt be with us anymore.

The Wraith are nothing more than farmers relying on relics from a distant war.
They're stuck with them, only a handful number of Wraith can repair/upgrade them.

Maybe the Wraith do have some yet-to-be-revealed ship classes or even space installations, the Superhive included. Or perhaps a central artificial mobile Hiveworld housing untold billions of Wraith, something kinda like the Borg's Unimatrix or the Magog Worldship. Cos' right now, it'd just seem plain weird if the entire Wraith armada consists solely of 50 or so remaining Hiveships and their cruiser escorts. Even being generous, that'd place the entire Wraith population at a couple of million or so, which is probably the average Jaffa population on a single planet in the Milky Way.
