This was supposed to be my "Okay, I'll watch it with one eye" - episode. Like some of you have stated already, Jaffa episodes aren't among my favorite episodes, Ishta was so-and-so the first time we saw her (IMO) and Birthright was not an episode I'm particularly fond of. And since I didn't have any high expectations going in, I was very happy with what I got.

Things that made me both smile and rejoice at the overall cuteness and/or grab the couch in hissy fits of laughter:

That opening scene between Daniel and Jack... What can I say? I loved it. Even more so when I read the trouble poor MS had getting through it. I would really like to see the outtakes on that one.

Teal'c whacking O'Neill with the ping-pong. ROFL. Serious ROFL. I think I hurt something in the process.

At least he managed to get in a serve against the defenceless wall. O'Neill: "Got one...". Fun-ny!

Horses in the gate room... Heh. There's something I never thought I would see.

Daniel and Sam's excessive smiling in response to the news of the wedding being held at the base. I thought that was the most adorable scene in a great long while.

Bra'tac. It was very nice to see him out of his clunky head-gear helmet. And what a lovely "minister" he made!
"Perhaps if we took a short recess..."
"I can see why one must rehearse these events."

This (sort of) new habit of O'Neill calling Teal'c "T" I like very much, I must say. It shows a real comfort in their friendship. As did the following line:
O'Neill: "You know how I get when you don't call."

When Teal'c pulled both Ry'ac and Co'rin into an embrace, at the same time, after Ry'ac offered his hand to him in a more official goodbye. That was so sweet.

Then there are the things that I'm a bit more hesitant about:

Those "You don't respect me" - speeches between Ry'ac and Co'rin (I have no idea how she spells it, I'm not even gonna pretend), both in the scene where they've just stepped through the gate and during the wedding rehearsal. Simply because it felt very forced to me. Plus, you'd think she'd be familiar with the ceremony and not act all Eh? with the kneeling thing. Don't get me wrong, I agree with her (why the heck should she have to kneel, and alone nonetheless?) but it seemed unrealistic that she wasn't aware of it.

It bugs me somewhat that Teal'c obvisously has strong feelings for Ishta, yet in Affinity he got involved with Krista. Sometimes, I feel like the writers don't quite know how to keep track of things that's going on with characters that are out of the picture, 'at the moment'. Then they bring them back on the show and it's like all is zippedy-do-dah and things that may have happened when they weren't present are glossed over.

    ~

And that's about it. All in all, I enjoyed it.

I agree. Of course the whole Krista thing bugged me at the time too.

I mean...wouldn't a strong, female warrior try a little harder not to cry quite so easily? We only see Sam crying either when a friend's life is in jeopardy or when she's severely tortured like in New Order.
Well she was suffering from tritonan (sp?) withdrawl, after all. Also, how you behave in private with your boyfriend is likely to be different from when you're leading your warriors.

Hold on, I just thought of this:
She was from that rebel women Jaffa camp, right? So maybe she DIDN'T know about how the ceremony works. Everyone just assumed there wouldn't be a problem, and that she would just do what was asked of her at the proper time. It would also explain Bra'tac's coment about needing to "rehearse" these things more often.
          Horray!

You could be on to something there. All right, I'll accept that explanation.

            At least, until proven otherwise.

Well, this was an interesting episode.

Did anyone else look at Rya'c's fiancée during the rehearsal and think she looked like a sixteen-year-old version of Sha're? Yikes, she and Rya'c looked young. I guess what bothered me about her is that we really didn't see why Rya'c was attracted to other, other than finding her beautiful. Did like her wedding dress, though.

As for the rite Teal'c mentioned at the end... I have a feeling that it was something along the lines of *ahem* circumcision.

Overall, I thought this was a good episode. It didn't feel Jack-light, as "Covenant" and "Affinity" did, and *gasp!* there's a Stargate! And aliens!

some of the dialogue was a little weird, but the humor was great. i especially liked jack & teal'c playing ping-pong (even though everyone else has said that, lol). not my favorite chris judge ep, or my favorite ep this season, but a good episode all the same.

I was bored by this ep. Brat'ac gets on my nerves. What's he like 130 years old now? Shouldn't he be on Chulak as a diplomat or something? Does he need to go galavanting all over the galaxy? I know he's Teal'c's buddy and advisor, but he's annoying.

Jolene Blalock (and her boobs ) guest star as a love interest for Teal'c. Ummm . . . didn't we just see him with Krista a couple weeks ago? How many women does Teal'c have? So he goes into battle with Ishta and other Jaffa who are suited up in their armor and he's in sleevless. WTF? Did he think all the bad guys are going to bounce off his well-sculpted arms? Okay, Christopher, we get it, you work out. But I prefer my arm porn to be Daniel arm porn.

Speaking of Daniel, if you blinked, you missed him. We did see Smiling Daniel and his cute dimples, but I need more and the scene with him in a suit was too short. I need time to savor Suit Daniel. C'mon, people throw us a bone. Sheesh.

I did like the wedding ceremony and the female Jaffa activism. I liked Jack and Teal'c's ping pong game and his one-liners. That's what redeemed the ep for me.

Ok, i didn't want to spoil myself by reading all the posts, but i would like to say this episode had everything for me, comedy, drama, action, etc. And wow, Ishta, she deserves better than Enterprise right now, from what i saw, her character is a lot better in SG, although things may change the new season. Anywho, yay, Bra'tac! Ok, and the whole wedding thing annoyed me a bit...

He's a major figure in the rebel Jaffa movement, and Chulak is a world every Goa'uld and his prim'tah know the location of. Never mind that, well, old wise people doesn't nessecarily translate to 'diplomat.'

If I'm in the shape he is at 130, I'd run around the galaxy too.

Seemed to me there was pretty much as much Daniel as Jack and Sam. This was basically a Teal'c episode.

I thought the ep was pretty good. I liked everyone's interaction. The opening scene between Jack and Daniel was typical: Jack's looking for the bottom line, but Daniel, ever the academic, is seeking to give the entire explanation for the bottom line being what it is!

Loved the ping-pong game. Or, perhaps, the better designation would be: target practice. Teal'c didn't seem to be aiming for the table at all, just for Jack! And I loved his getting in "last licks", so to speak.

Loved Bra'tac. He was a riot in this episode. Who ever thought Bra'tac could do standup? <<g>> Loved the "rehearsing" line and his exchange with Jack in Jack's office--Jack can smell sucking up a mile away! And the way Jack gave him the nod to do the "Silence" bellow again.

Loved the scene between Sam and Jack in the corridor. Not just the whole touching bit, but also, when Jack turns around and seems to be eyeing some of the adult female warriors as they walk down the corridor, Sam grabs him and turns him around. LOL! (Also liked their little conversation about Teal'c. "The...*chicken*."<<g>>)

Loved the Sam and Daniel bit when they hear that the wedding is planned for the SGC. The patently insincere smiles were for Rya'c and Kalin (??), but the desperate hand clutch was communication between themselves: "Oh, god. Can I be somewhere else when Jack finds out."

Question: when Sam said she had to go find a planet, was she subtlely telling Daniel that *he* was going to have to tell Jack, since she was *so* busy finding a planet?

(BTW, wonder if they *did* go for the pinata?)

The one thing I had trouble with was Teal'c's attitude toward Ishta and the predicament of the female children. I thought he was more than a little chauvinistic in his attitude in "Birthright", and I saw it here again. Yes, if you can hit the Goa'uld from all sides, it would be better, but Ishta was faced with the fact that girl children were being slaughtered indiscriminantly, above and beyond what normally happens to Jaffa. Besides, Moloc was apparently aware of the growing disaffection among his Jaffa and probably would have taken action anyway.

I also didn't like the fact that Teal'c, in order to get Ishta to agree to let him come to the meeting, made a promise that he immediately broke. It spoke of a lack of respect for her.

And if you think about it, even with a new System Lord in control, the female children will probably be better off, since we haven't heard of any other Goa'uld engaging in the same practice.
