    Kardashev scale in SG universe

    What type of civilizations (by Kardashev scale) do you think we can see in SG universe?

    If you look at the Wikipedia page talking about Kardashev scale, then you can see that Alterans were the Type II civilization, but personaly I think they were Type III civilization. They screw that scale thing up with ascension (same goes to Ori)

    My thoughts:

    Tauri - Type I
    Alterans - Type III (type IV after ascension)
    Ori - Type III (type IV after ascension)
    Asgrad - Type II
    Wraith - Type II
    Nox - Type II/III
    Goul'd - Type II

    Thoughts, discussions?
    "Small Victories"
    Thor: The Asgard would never invent a weapon that propels small weights of iron and carbon alloys, by igniting a powder of potassium nitrate, charcoal and sulfur.

    "Prisoners"
    O'Neill: And this just came to you?
    Daniel: No, it came to me while I was suffocating.

    Tauri - Type I/II
    Alterans - Type IV (type V after ascension)
    Ori - Type IV (type V after ascension)
    Asgrad - Type III
    Wraith - Type III
    Nox - Type II/III
    Goul'd - Type II

    dunno wtf your little scale is, but w.e lol

      There is no such thing as a type V civilization. Type IV would be able to use the available energy in the Universe, I think.

      It goes Planet, star system, galaxy, universe.

        Wikipedia disagrees. It goes like this: planet, solar system, galaxy, local cluster, visible universe.

            You can't really use the Kardashev scale for SG-1 because the show cheats a lot; the scale was based on no faster-than-light travel, and no stargates. With those in the series, it's hard to place most of the races.

            It would be better to redo the scale completely than to try and base it off the Kardashev scale. For example:

            Unas = 0.0-0.1
            Jaffa = 0.5-1.5 (with some 2.0+ technology)
            Ori Followers = 0.5-5.0 (cheaters!)
            Tau'ri = 0.8-1.5 (with some 2.5+ technology)
            Aschen = 1.0-2.0
            Tollan = 1.0-2.5
            Replicators = 1.0-3.5+ (depending on models and absorbed tech)
            Wraith = 1.0-2.0
            Goa'uld = 1.5-2.9
            Nox = 2.0-4.0
            Asgard = 2.5-3.5
            Alteran = 3.5-4.5
            Lantian = 4.0-5.0
            Ori Priors = 5.0 (cheaters!)
            Ascended Ancients & The Ori = 5.0+

            These are just estimates based on technology, knowledge and their civilizations; how they govern themselves and interact with others.

            For example, the Ori Followers are basically living in a state that the Tau'ri did in Roman times, which gets them a 0.5 rating, but the Ascended Ori have given them magical toys in order to do their bidding, which gives them a 5.0 technology rating.
            The Priors are 5.0 because they have The Force™, and they command the followers who have the magical toys.

            1. As a StarGate discussion grows longer, the probability of someone mentioning the Furlings approaches one.

              Sometimes cheaters loose and sometimes they win.

                Does this remind anyone else of Dragon Ball Z and their power levels and super saiyan transformations?

                      Thank you! I've been trying to spread that notion around. No one seems to get it though.

                        In terms of power, the Lantians, and possibly the Alterans (technological evolutions infused), were able to create power sources able to destroy the solar system twice. That's what a supernova does, and in general, that's the total remaining energy of a sun on the collapse point. That would put them at type II.
                        The Arctarus project was supposed giving them the possibility to draw the power from the universe, which would have propelled them to level IV with much ease.
                        They're supposed to draw power from anywhere they want, be peaceful and able to ascend.
                        They already crossed several galaxies, but they're not as expansionist as a culture that would convert large planets into city-bases. That's ought to make them type IV, but since they failed, they're not there.

                        With the recent discoveries made by travels through the stargate, and the gain of a transgalactic fleet, the Tau'ri is truly advancing fast, though the very special case of unshared knowledge and unshared technology would mean that in fact, only the secret entity around the Stargate project would fit slightly above the type I, but the rest of humanity as a whole is certainly not anything near that level.

                        The replicators are an interesting case. Their method of reproduction, their ease to harvest pretty much anything, their micro level of complexity and shared intelligence, plus their evolution models and their expansion across galaxies make them easily fit above type II.
                        They've been able to transform a whole planet's surface to a perfectly smooth sphere of replicator blocks in a very short amount of time. They have manipulated the time device, they can integrate vast amounts of knowledge.
                        While there's a mystery regarding their power sources, they're on the top of type II. If it wasn't a question of power sources, they could easily be propelled to the premices of type III.

                        The Nox and Asgards aren't that up on the scale. They're probably in the middle of type II, or at the base of type II.

                          ZPM's are a mini universe shoved into subspace/time... that puts the ancients on IV/V footing.

                            That's not enough. When they tried to get the energy from the real stuff, the big universe, not some small self contained pocked artificially held as such, the Lantians failed.
