Problems with a GateWorld Ad? - Provide Ad DETAILS

if gate world did this as some sort of Halloween prank, this is going to hurt gate world badly, it might just drive a lot of us away to other boards, and that would cost ALOT in ad revenue. , I HOPE I am wrong about this.

Can you let me know how you got rid of it. It is totally blocking me from Gateworld on one of my computers. I've tried a few things to get rid of it but it doesn't go away and it blocks access to Gateworld. I am on a different computer and it just popped up on that one but isn't blocking me on that one.

Sometimes if I go out and come back in, it goes away. Also, I refresh the page. Sometimes I have to do it several times.

The code he needs to have that ad removed by the suppliers is in this post,so I've sent it across.

For better or worse, this time of year, scary and horror movies are the big thing to advertise. Given that halloween is in a couple of days, things should calm down by then.

Darren is communicating with the ad company but.....well they're the ones dishing out this stuff so if you want to direct your ire and frustration, try there.

Is this something I am supposed to do or something someone on your end is going to do? If the latter, can you make it quick? I know some people who are so frelled off by the ads that never end they won't come back to GW.

Have you (and others) cleared your cache ,cookies and browser history?
That's often helped with ads and other problems.
Take a look at your add-ons and plug-ins too.

If you do all that and nothing changes, try adding in that ad to adblock plus or whichever adblocker you can use with your comps or phones.

If you don't want to use adblock, you can use firefox and flashblock.
I still get the ads on my iPad (which do not run flash) and while they animate they do not leave the banner area.

We do totally understand how frustrating it is. We're dealing with it too. But the ad company doesn't exactly make it easy to have it pulled. Darren looked and tried.

That stupid ad is relentless! I finally had to add an ad-blocker to my browser. I did try clearing my cache, cookies and browser history a couple times at the beginning of the week, but it didn't help.

At first the ad just kept redirecting when I'd click to go to a thread, or somewhere other than the forum home page. But yesterday and today, it's been not even letting me see any thing other than the home page, and then when I try to go anywhere, I can't even see that anymore.

I switched to see if I would have the same problem with Chrome, and so far so good.

raduzhok... I use Chrome and I was experiencing the same problems that you were until I added the ad blocker. Hopefully Chrome works for you better than it was treating me... at least until the ad company switches to new ads.

Bailey1ak, I didn't even think about an ad blocker, and since only use Chrome for google hangout, I don't know if the ad blocker is enabled, or not. But thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye out.

I have a report to make about the ad in the top banner blocking access to the "Remember Me" checkbox.

I was in class last Saturday, and wanted to quickly check in to GW. Browser was Firefox without adblock, but while I could reach the fields for my username and password, I was unable to uncheck the "Remember Me" box as the ad was half covering it.

Refreshing didn't help. It just kept reappearing. I forgot to take a screencap, but I'll try to take one next Saturday if it happens again.

Its a VB template change issue and dates back to last September.Darren couldn't fix it,so had to leave the Remember Me box permanently checked to make sure we could stay logged in.

Quite a few members prefer to stay permanently logged in,but for security,log out of each session.

If you're on a public/shared computer,clear your cache,cookies and browser!

I've set the "Remember Me" checkbox to be checked by default.

Hopefully this will help folks stay logged in more effectively while we continue to troubleshoot.
