In the wormhole effect for Stargate Atlantis, they show a green tube and stars in the background. This wormhole leads to a galaxy outside the Milky Way. If they bothered to show the stars, why didn't they create a slightly blanker space in the path and show the Pegasus Galaxy bearing down on the traveller? (I say slightly blanker because the area outside the Milky Way would be dotted with more galaxies, but they would be far away and look like single stars, but more spaced out than in our sky.)

How can you see the wormhole effect at all?

The answer is that you wouldn't be able to see anything because you've been split up into sub-atomic particles. In fact, you wouldn't see anything from the point you enter the event horizon until the point you exit the destination gate.

However, to actually attempt to answer your question, they didn't show it like you'd like because they need to recycle that shot over and over. Had they shown it like you want (Flying through the Milkyway and showing the hole lead to the Pegasus dwarf galaxy, which would have been a cool shot!) they wouldn't really be able to recycle it because they're sorta stuck in Pegasus. They're not going to be traveling to any other galaxies for some time, just other systems within Pegasus.

So, for sake of recycling stock footage, they recreated the original wormhole travel effect with more modern CGI.

That makes sense. It's just really annoying when they do stuff like that in TV shows and movies.
