    Zilma nodded and snatched the note and stuffed into her bra, safest place she always said. She waved a greasy paw at the younger woman and then realised she had a roast in her oven, but food of course was always a prority wasn't it. "I'll have to check the rain on that Amy, but nae you mind, I will take up the offer as soon as I'm finished with my other newest, latest invention. Not telling you what it is though lass....I'm not to sure about it meself." She waltzed out singing in a rather surprising sweet voice.

    "I'm wearing second hand shoes
    Second hand hose
    All the girls hand me their second hand beaus
    Even my pajamas when I don ‘em
    Got somebody else’s ‘nitials on ‘em
    Second hand rings
    I'm sick of second hand things
    I never get what other girlies do
    Once when strolling through the Ritz a girl got my goat
    She nudged her friend
    And said "Oh look there my old fur coat"

      Garrison
      Delegado’s Office

      Simon shifted in his seat as Ron spoke, and rose an eyebrow at what the Major told him, “You got to be kidding me?” he exclaimed, the last thing he wanted to be in Cooper’s debt. It also explained how Kevin knew what was going on the base. Simon had been right about Cooper being on the base.

      Listening further to what Ron was saying, “Christ,” Oxford rubbed his face, “he carried her? To Base? Why didn't he just bring her here for it?” Yet the very idea of Cooper doing something human for change boggled the mind. But at the same time it was unbelievable that the man actually had done. Was it even possible him to have a heart under all that skin? Boggling the mind for sure.

      For a moment her condition clouded his mind, so he hadn’t been aware of the drink till he head the glasses being sat down on the table. The idea of Claire being injured wasn’t something he wanted for hear. She usually seemed like a happy-go-lucky kind of person, seemed her luck was running out. Giving his face another rub, he saw Ron pouring the drinks, it was something he needed at the given moment. Taking the offered shot glass, Simon gave a short chuckle at what the Major said, “No doubt there. It was something he did do right.” he agreed, “especially out off the crap he had done till now.” Bring it drink to his lips he drowned the whole thing in a go then let out a sharp hiss as the amber liquid burned down his throat. It had been a long time since he had whiskey.

      “Jesus, how old is that thing?” he asked looking at Ron. The age of the drink would be a factor in it’s sharpness.

        Base - Outpost - Major Delgado
        1st Sgt. Amy Carrow

        Amy grinned as she watched the back of Zilma disappear. Listening to the joyvial voice wishing she could find her own joy. Instead it was the usual stress that gnawed at Carrow's belly. Looking to the counter tick down to zero. Looking to the door she started, hesitated, returned to the phone. Deciding to make the call herself. The conversation between the Major and Colonel would have to be a tense one in light of the condition of the LT in question. No need to interrupt without cause. The Base may have just lost track of time. It wouldn't hurt to just check in before sounding the alarm with the Major.

        *Radio* "Major Delgado's office for Colonel Marshall. Do we have a change in situation on base?" *Radio*

        Holding her breath in hopes there was not another serious on base situation.

        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        Ron nodded as he let his friend talk it out. Okay so he was stalling. Hoping that Simon would put two and two together. Wasn't it obvious why Cooper would take her to base. Why else other than the seriousness of her condition. Come on Simon ... carried her. Maybe he was stalling to. Not really wanting or ready to hear the truth. His chest heaved with a sigh, "Indeed, people never cease to amaze me. Maybe Cooper has a heart buried in there after all."
        Watching as Simon polished off the contents of the glass in one fell swoop. Looking at the bottle in question, "This my friend is Jack Daniels. The real thing. All the way from earth. It just may be the last of its kind. Let's say I have been saving for a special occasion." Consoling a friend hadn't been on the top of the list. More like engaging a lovely lady. Oh well, at least Simon has lovely eyes. Smirking as he refilled the empty glasses. He hoped the warm liquor had taken the edge off of Simon's senses. Enough to soften the blow.
        Raising his glass in a toast, "To Claire Davis, to found friends, to reuniting with those we love yet, thought lost." Hoping that those last words wouldn't haunt him. Hoping that LT Davis was not a lost cause.
            1st Sgt. Amy Carrow
            Carrow let out a long slow breath. Okay, so no reason to interrupt what was going on in the next room.
            *Radio* Carrow Sir, That is good news. I will forward that to the Major for you. I am sure he will call in personally at the next check mark. Let us know if you are in need of asistance prior to then. Base out.*Radio*
            Amy oozed slowly into her chair and allowed her muscles to relax for the first time today. She input the info so that it would be veiwable by the Major at his computer. Tagged it onto Bart's program that he had created with all of his bells and whistles. She smiled warmly, he could be a little quirky but, he sure made things interesting for her.
            Taking a look at the door, there were no signs of need there. There was the sound of clinking glasses. Amy made a small face wondering what was being drank in there. There had been no requests. Wow, had he actually broke into the JD that had only been on display for so long?
              Zilma finished off her lonely dinner and washed her dishes, she stacked everything away neatly. Her little cottage/workshop/museum was a maze of catalogued thingies she called them. Bits and pieces from home, the Bronx and almost every off world place she had managed to visit when she was allowed to. She bathed and dressed for bed, then something struck her, Marshall, she hasn't spoken to him for a while and she had finished his work order. Ducking into her lab, she sat at her ancient radio and fiddled with knobs and dials, it squawked and hissed until she had a clear tone. "Daniel I know you're still up you never sleep. I finished modifying CCTV cameras as you asked, I can bring them over in my cart in the morning if you like...oh and apple pie as well my dear boy."
                  "I've heard the rumors, they say interdimensional Furball things, is that true? If it is I should let you know they have gone beyond your sturdy walls my boy...oh and the pie? Do you expect me to eat it on my own?"
                    After polishing of the first round out the shot that he had been given, Simon stared at the desk with a blank mind. The idea of Cooper having a heart was still creepy enough after how the man usually behaved. But helping out a another human who was in need of help was so out of character for the man that it didn’t seem possible for him to do such thing. Simon was really having a hard time believing it. The shock of the news was still slowly sinking in.
                    Perhaps he could make a trip tot the base and check on her himself. See if he could be any help to her in anyway. He wasn’t lying, when he knew he just wanted to be there for her. His lips curled at what Ron said, as his brown eyes travelled to the Major’s face, “And this is special occasion?” then chuckled. Since he was to meet Deb over at Jack’s maybe he could use Jack’s shoulder to brood on as the man offered it to many town folks.
                    His eyes went slightly dark at he thought of Claire being a one of the lost souls after many they had lost on Earth’s fate. Travis, Simon knew wasn’t going to be able to deal with worst when it came to Claire. His brother had lost her once, the second fall wasn’t something he would recover from, if ever. “Amen,” he voiced a little flatly, and drowned the drink in one go.
                    Looking at Ron for a moment and thoughtfully, “Can you let the Base know I’ll swing by in the morning and see how she’s doing.” And his daughter could come along and enjoy the trip. He could ask the base’s MD to give a her look over since she was starting to teethed and wasn't sleeping well on most nights.
                      Base - Outpost - Major Delgado
                      Setting the decanter back in its place on the shelf. It could be called on again if Simon needed a third. Ron slowly slipped his second round. The brown liquid warmed his insides as it tracked its way to find his blood stream. The edge was starting to vanish and things just felt a little easier. Moving back around to his chair he caught a glimpse at the flashing message from Carrow.
                      "I am afraid Colonel, your trip will need to be postponed. The base infestation has come with a shut down order from Marshall." He paused and waited for the elixir to perform its job. "From the report," the man grimaced took a deep breath and pondered how much to share, "from the report, well, she wouldn't know you were there Simon." Sitting back in his chair he unconsciously began to tap his fingers on the folder. "She is going to have a long road back. There will be plenty of time to visit. I assure you you will be the first person I contact when the base is open. Until then I will have Carrow give you a regular update."
                      A long pause followed. There, it was out there. It was all that needed to be said for now. His friend didn't need to know that at present, based on what was before him, the chances for recovery looked slim, very slim. Looking at the bottle of JD he decided to leave it alone for now. They may need the rest to help ease his friend's pain when the likely dreaded reality came to fruition. He closed the folder before him. Tapped a few keys on the keyboard to let Amy know he had received her update.
                      "Anyways, look at it from Marshall's point of view. He will want that base open faster than anyone. Right now he is stuck with Kevin." He began to force an attempt at a chuckle to try and lighten things up. "I have no doubt that escorting Cooper back to Foreston couldn't happen soon enough. Even if he is our latest hero." Shaking off those last words. They sounded wrong, oh so wrong.
                        He toyed with the glass as Ron spoke in regards to the trip to the base. He forced himself to control the burst of anger that had erupted. He for the moment didn't give a rat's a$$ what Marshall's orders were or happened to be. Someone who was dear to him needed him. If by being there he could help, Simon was all in for it. Placing the shot glass on the table, the naval officer looked at Delegado, "I just want to be there, I don't care for the moment if she won't notice." It didn't register in his mind, why she won't have noticed. He was too puzzled over Cooper's behavior to see it. But he nodded at the updates which would come his way, with that in mind he was calm at least.
                        Allowing the silent spell be cast over, Simon inhaled to ease some of the frustration that was building up. She was the Claire he knew, had known. But was she still the same after all that she had gone through, and will again from these events that had taken turn in twisted fate. The happy-go-lucky Davis he knew seemed to be attracting alot of trouble. Perhaps on after another.
                        Ron's voice broke the spell, while he didn't know Daniel Marshall personally, Simon had at least heard of the man and knew he was true to his word, smiling softly as best as he could manage, "And the last thing we want him to be is our hero." He tapped the shot glass few times, "Anyway, I'm gonna get going. Deb will have me by the ear if I'm no show. Keep those updates coming." With that he turned and walked towards the door and turned the knob open.
