I wonder why they didn't use the tardis scanner to peek at the wall behind them, had they done that they would have seen the painting and the name of the ship. That whole ending scene was sad as we see the ship one last time and all the lights are going out...
Because they had no idea there'd be something there to look at.
I do love that ending scene, one of my favourite in the whole show.
In the second episode of the Austen Space Podcast, where period drama meets sci-fi, we do an audio commentary for The Girl in the Fireplace; feel free to download or subscribe here:
The premise was interesting and the final resolution was great. I loved the clockwork bots and their programming to repair the ship was greusomely funny. Smells like bbq.
I'd like to see more eps like this, with some well thought out villains. Could be a great follow up ep somewhere down the line where we can find out what the ship was and why it was there in the first place.
This has to be my all time favourite episode of "New Who" the music, actng, everything is near perfect.. And the heartbreak for the Doctor as I sensed he might have had a thing for Reinette.
MY favorite episode as of yet after watching 2 seasons of Tennant's Doctor. Fairy tale, romance, tragedy, with some sci-fi horror. The Lonely Angel, always drawn towards the brightest of spirits. And it is really sad when he can only be with them for a short while before the reality of being a Time Lord crashes that brief moment of joy.
