    Default Point of Origin...

I've recently noticed something very odd.

Earth's point of origin (on the stargate, a device of Ancient design) supposedly symbolises the sun rising over a pyramid. However, the pyramids are landing platforms for Ha'taks, Goa'uld ships, and therefore must be more recent constructs than the stargates.
Why then is the symbol for Earth a pyramid? Earth, homeplanet of the Ancients, whose starfaring antics outdate all other known species in the Milkyway galaxy, has for its symbol a piece of Goa'uld design.
Okay, I realise that this must be because I'm mistaken, or (more likely) because of inconsistencies with the movie's plot and that of the tv series, but still, an explanation please?

    [/bemused rant]

Obviously Ra added his own symbol when he transported the Giza gate to earth. The Ancient's PoO for earth was the circle and line motif that as on the Antartic Gate DHD.

The goa'uld are a scavenger race, and acquired nearly all of their technology from other cultures. It's possible that the Ancients, at one point, used a Ha'tak/pyramid design, and the goa'uld simply stole the idea from them.

Yes, at the very least we know from 'Crystal Skull' that other alien races have used pyramids as well, just not on Earth.

The /\ is clearly of Ancient design, as Jack referred to it as "at" while naming stargate symbols in the Ancient tongue. Ra simply borrowed the symbol to add to his godhood status.

It was with a beta-DHD, maybe it was a beta-gate.

From production point of view, it's easier to just replace one symbol and not show so much of the gate.

From story point of view, we never saw the entirety of the beta gate. Since the beta gate was shown using the /\ as POO during its s4-s6 use, we can assume it has the /\ symbol as well as line/circle. Carter said the line/circle was unique, not in place of the /\. She assumed it (line/circle) was the POO because at the time, she thought she was on another planet. To her, it made sense not to use the earth's POO, because, after all, she isn't on earth. The Point of Origin doesn't deal with what gate is dialing, but where said gate is dialing from. Hence the key words "point" and "origin".
