Farewell Cruel Database Servers!
Starting on the 7th of April, 2006, Gateworld.net, Forums.gateworld.net and related content (Omnipedia, etc) will begin migration to our new network cluster.
The new setup involves a whole bunch of new hardware. After about 6 weeks of planning and discussion, we have finally devised the best hardware setup required for future growth and continued expansion (when required) of both content and infrastructure.
On the 7th of April, we will welcome 3 brand new servers to the network, including a new Dual Xeon 3.2Ghz Database server, and a Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz Content (Web) server, plus an AMD Opteron box for miscelaneous operations, including Gateworld.net Content, and more.
Between the 12th and 18th of April, we will be migrating both the main site & Forums (DNS, Web/SQL, Email) over to the new platform. This will cause a few downtime spots, which we will announce 3-5 days prior to, however we will do our best to avoid any issues.
