*even if you do its usually worth reading and intelligent
*the people are more open and honest
*we dont have any 'groups' like the sam/jack ships, although we tend to have two main groups, the creators and the explainers as i put them; people like me who like to create things based on stargate, like ships, weapons, power sources and people like you, owen and Wraith scientsist who explain how they would be in real life or why these things are portrayed the way they are ( much like the above discusison).

So if we can create a nice chillout zone, where people cna come and just generally discuss things, like i might bring up the topic of why different races have different hyperspace window (something that i have just done because its quite strange) and where in doing so peopel can be directed to thread where this has been discussed or mention before, then thats great. I imagine this bieng pretty great. im already subscribed!

I just made a post in the 'X-treme Guide to Gateworld', to let people know about the existence of this thread. Hopefully that will get the attention of the appropriate people for whom this thread is intended. It seemed like a good place to let people know about this thread. I also added a link from that post, to this thread. So that way people can find it quickly from there as well.

This post is just for the heck of it.

I decided to post some of my resource books for both science, and science fiction. These are books that I've found to be useful, and also a good read sometimes. I have other books, but these are some of the better ones.

Hyperspace: Our Final Frontier: By Dr. John Gibbins

A very well illustrated book. Nice pictures... There is some useful information to be found in there as well. It covers a wide range of topics that have to do with astronomy and cosmology.

The New York Public Library, SCIENCE DESK REFERENCE

A great reference book to have..! It covers topics in almost every field of science there is. It has hundreds of charts and illustrations to help make things easier to understand as well. Not a bad deal, for $40 bucks..!

Borderlands of Science By Charles Sheffield

This book covers a lot of science fiction topics. It is a book for science fiction writers (I've dabbled), and has a lot of useful information regarding the world of science fiction. The Author is both, a real scientist and science fiction writer.

Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey through Parallel Universes, Time Warps, and the 10th Dimension By Michio Kaku

The title sort of says it all. Michio Kaku is considered one of the foremost String Theory scientist in the world. It is a great read, and very interesting.

Visions: How Science will Revolutionize the 21st Century By Michio Kaku

This book also covers a wide range of 'futuristic' and cutting edge science. The book makes possible predictions of technologlies we may see in the future given the direction our sciences are heading. Fascinating read.

If you have these books, maybe you'd like to discuss them. Or maybe you have some really good books yourself, that you'd like to list so the rest of us can check them out. Like I said, I have other books, but for an intitial list, I wasn't sure I should post them. Some of them might be considered 'questionable' as to their validity.

The second one could be useful to. If for instance you were looking into some medical stuff (which I know very little about... ), or just biology in general. Or some other field of science. It covers 'Scientific Measurements', 'Scientific Symbols and Signs', 'Time', 'Biology', 'The Human Body and Biomedical Science', 'Chemistry', 'Physics', 'Astronomy', 'Earth Science', 'Meteorology', 'Environmental Science', 'Computer Science', 'Engineering and Technical Science', and 'Useful Sience Resources'. Those are the main subjects covered. There are many subtopics within each of those as well.

I've got that book, it has to rank among the best physics books I've ever read

Well yes, im scared about if some of the things in the Genesis show will be 'legal' scientifically for example we have a rather controveral footing in our show has time travel storylines and its a major part of the plot; if you do you read it, feel free to discuss it, becuase any insight on what would and wouldnt be possible (generally) will really help.
btw we release on the 10th of april, next monday. We are a series that has very advanced races ( the great allience) at the heart of it, so hopefully it will be less about saying what isnt possible and more about speculating on how it could be

Another good book I have is "The Holographic Unvierse" by Michael Talbot. It is a very interesting and compelling book. It talks about the 'Holographic Unvierse Theory', which is a relatively new theory that has some potential explainations for the paranormal, higher physics, and mysteries of the brain and body. I would recommend it, even if your skeptical. It makes some good points.

I was wondering... Have any of you guys watched that film "What the bleep do we know?"...? If so, what did you think about it? I thought some of it was pretty interesting stuff. Some of it was a little questionable. Overall, I thought it was an interesting piece.

No sorry i havent seen it, But talking about films and science; the film 'the core' had an element that got tougher the more presure was applied to it, and had a drill based on sound waves...any theories or ideas about weather its a valid concept.

Actually, it is a valid concept. Maybe difficult to apply, but not necessarily impossible. All it has to do is match the harmonic frequency of the rocks or material in front of it, and it would shatter to pieces in front of it. Sound can do some incredible things, if you can use it properly. As to the element, I'm not sure about that one. I've only seen a part of 'The Core', so I didn't catch that part. What I did see, was pretty good.

The metal in 'The Core' was named as 'unobtanium' It was virtually indestructible and could convert heat directly into energy (violates 2nd law of thermodynamics).

I would say that sonic drills are a viable concept though. Classic demonstration - an opera singer shattering a glass. I believe the phenomenon is called resonance.

                      Edit: Breaking glass

wasnt it presure in to heat? which they then used to power the 'sound laser'
i remember him saying that as you get deeper the presure will increase and only when we get deep enough will the conversion kick in enough to be able to drill.

The Daedalus travelling in hyperspace..! Or more accurately, the Daedalus travelling through a hyperspace corridor. This sort of touches back on the discussion we were having earlier. Nice pic.
