Access All Areas - Doctor Who Special
Thursday, 23 November, 2017 - Reported by Marcus

        http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2017/11...o-special.html

As the Twelfth Doctor approaches his final story, BBC Radio Two is to broadcast a two hour special documentary looking behind the scenes of Doctor Who.

Broadcast on Thursday 21 December at 8pm, the programme sees Jo Whiley gain exclusive access to the Doctor Who team. She catches up with the stars of the series on the set - including Pearl Mackie, David Bradley, Exec Producer Steven Moffat, and the Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi. She also hears from outgoing companion Matt Lucas, and digs into the BBC Doctor Who archive.

There will be stories from behind the scenes, including how Lucas approaches being recognised by fans; the radical ways in which Mackie's life has changed; Pele’s reaction to signing a Brazil shirt for the Doctor and how Doctor Who has always been with Peter Capaldi - from dressing up as a Dalek as a child to karaoke singalongs to The Killers (all in the name of getting into character).

Plus, Radio 2 listeners will find out which member of the team has a penchant for Chas and Dave

BBC Radio 2 can be heard worldwide via the BBC Radio iPlayer.

New Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker to host her own Christmas Eve radio show

Jodie Whittaker, Beth Ditto and Sharon Hargon will be curating three nights of radio on BBC 6 Music over the Christmas holidays.

Across Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, the BBC has announced its three “Wise Women” will curate 6 Music each night from 6pm to 2am.

The celebrity hosts will also be selecting their favourite 6 Music programming from the archive.

New Doctor Who star Whittaker will take the helm on Christmas Eve, and is set to play music based on theme of travel (including time travel perhaps?), plus revealing some of her favourite artists, from Elbow to Foy Vance.

The actress is a regular Breakfast Show guest on 6 Music with Shaun Keaveny and a big fan of the station. “I’m absolutely over the moon to be asked to be a part of this year’s three Wise Women,” she said. “I’ve never been called a wise woman before, but I’ll take it! Maybe even print up a t-shirt!

“It’s been brilliant revisiting shows that I loved listening to the first time round and also getting to choose two hours worth of my favourite tracks, most of which I discovered through listening to 6 Music. So thanks for that, and hope you enjoy it.”
American singer-songwriter Ditto will take the Christmas Day slot and writer-actress Horgan will curate the Boxing Day show.

Meanwhile, Radio 4’s Today programme will be getting the royal treatment from guest editor Prince Harry – the exact date has not yet been announced but it will be at some point over the Christmas holiday.

Twice Upon A Time - New Image and Synopsis
Tuesday, 28 November, 2017 - Reported by Marcus

                  http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2017/11...-synopsis.html

The BBC has issued a new image and the synopsis for this year's Christmas special, Twice Upon A Time.
Twice Upon A Time - The Doctor Who Christmas Special - 1x60’, BBC One

The magical final chapter of the Twelfth Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) journey sees the Time Lord team up with his former self, the first ever Doctor (David Bradley - Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) and a returning Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), for one last adventure.

Two Doctors stranded in an Arctic snowscape, refusing to face regeneration. Enchanted glass people, stealing their victims from frozen time. And a World War One captain destined to die on the battlefield, but taken from the trenches to play his part in the Doctor's story.

An uplifting new tale about the power of hope in humanity’s darkest hours, Twice Upon A Time marks the end of an era. But as the Doctor must face his past to decide his future, his journey is only just beginning...

Twice Upon A Time is written by Steven Moffat, directed by Rachel Talalay, and executive produced by Brian Minchin. The 60 minute special guest stars Mark Gatiss as The Captain and Nikki Amuka-Bird as the voice of the glass woman, and will see Peter Capaldi’s Doctor regenerate into the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker).

The episode is due to be shown in the UK on BBC One on Christmas Day, followed by broadcasts around the world.

30 wicked years! Everything you need to know about Doctor Who companion Ace
By Cameron McEwan on Wednesday 29 November 2017

It was thirty years ago when one of Doctor Who's most loved companions was making her Doctor Who debut in the Seventh Doctor story, Dragonfire.

Played by actress Sophie Aldred, she stayed with the Doctor (or "Professor" as she preferred to call him) for another two full seasons, racking up over thirty episodes of space and time fun battling Daleks and Cybermen and meeting fellow Who legend, The Brigadier.

So here’s everything you need to know about the London teenager who traveled so very far in space and, of course, in time.

Oh, and spoilers incoming if you're not familiar with Perivale's finest...

New Filmic Look for Series Eleven
Friday, 01 December, 2017 - Reported by Marcus

                        http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2017/12...es-eleven.html

Broadcast Magazine reports that the upcoming series of Doctor Who is being shot with different cameras to give the series a new filmic look.

Tha magazine reports that the production house Films at 59 has supplied BBC Studios in Cardiff with Cooke anamorphic Prime lenses and Angenieux Optimo anamorphic zooms that will be used with Arri Alexa XT and Alex Mini cameras. The intention is to bring an increased cinematic look to the show which went into production at the end of October.

Films at 59 hire client manager Dave Wride told Broadcast
The BBC have made a monumental leap here to enhance the look of Doctor Who and I’m sure the fans will not be disappointed with the distinctly cinematic results that this lens and camera combo will afford them.

The lens change is one of a number of changes being made by the new production team led by Executive Producers Chris Chibnall and Matt Strevens, in what is expected to be a major reboot for the series. Earlier this month The Mirror reported that Composer Murray Gold is also to leave after this year's Christmas Special, but this has not been confirmed by the BBC.

One person definitely departing is Edward Russell, who has been Brand Manager on Doctor Who since it returned in 2005. Russell announced his departure on twitter
I’ve been planning my departure since the summer & agreed to stay on to see out Peter Capaldi’s era. I’ll be here until the end of the year. The role ends with my departure but I’m sure the work will continue. What an amazing 12 years!

The last episode produced by the incumbent Production team is this year Christmas Special Twice Upon a Time which will see Peter Capaldi regenerate into thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whitaker.

There has been much ado about whether Jodie Whittaker is going to keep her Yorkshire accent when she takes over the Tardis as the Thirteenth Doctor this Christmas.

David Tennant was asked to drop his Scottish lilt when he played the Tenth, Peter Capaldi kept his as the Twelfth, as did Mancunian Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor – but what will Whittaker do?

Well showrunner Steven Moffat may just have revealed the answer – and it sounds as though it’s going to be… Yorkshire!

“You’ll spend more time in that first episode reacting to her accent than her gender,” Moffat told SFX magazine. “It’ll be, ‘Oh, what a big fuss… oh, she’s funny, isn’t she?… Yorkshire? Why’s she got a Yorkshire accent?’ That’s going to be it.”

Now, we know Moffat has indeed been privy to Whittaker’s first appearance as the Doctor in the final moments of the Christmas special –but we also know that he can sometimes be a little bit of a tease, so it’s hard to know whether to take this with a pinch of salt.

One thing’s for sure, it’s certainly what most fans want to see – 85 per cent of them voted yes to Yorkshire in our recent poll.
