I'm glad Simmons is dead too and that they spaced the *******!

But yeah, the lax security bugged me too. I loved that O'Neill wanted to call the ship Enterprise.

I didn't even know they had been building a space ship. This episode caught me off guard. I was seriously like "WTF, did I miss something? When did they start building this?". It was a great ship. Its a shame it got destroyed, although, the Daedelous class ships weren't too bad, especially when they got their hands on Asgard technology.

Given that the site where the Prometheus was being built was supposed to be the most secure site on the face of the planet (according to O'Neill), it was incredibly easy for people to just walk in and grab the ship. Excuse me, but people just drive up to the little building in the middle of a desert (sort of), and there's barely any sort of military presence in place. And they only have two military escort to go down into the bowels of the site to the ship, instead of a whole group of them. And their TV equipment isn't checked before they're even allowed onto the site. If it had, I would think at least some of their weapons would have been discovered.

Even if it was a TV crew and reporter being allowed onboard, it seems extremely out of character for there to have been so few security personnel around the site. There was nothing seen around the site when the first two vehicles drove up.

And yet immediately on finding out the Prometheus was being hijacked, security people, tents, etc. were almost immediately onsite and set up. This is the kind of security that should have been available from the beginning.

And poor Major Davis having Jack yelling at him like it was his fault. He never seems to quite get a break from being snipped or yelled at by someone. And he hasn't been very effective in dealing with people in the past - his "visit" to Julia in the limo fell flat; his threat to Simmons in the van taking him to the site fell flat. He needs a different scriptwriter to give him better lines to deliver.

I'm wondering how far Simmons was actually willing to go with his threat to detonate the engines. I seriously doubt he was willing to let himself be killed for his convictions. He was too greedy and wanted all those weapons too badly to allow himself to be killed like that.

From being mil, one of the best ways to protect something is to make it look unobtrusive.. something like they had set up, would have been a great way to make others not even think there was a ship building facility underground...
Having lots of people come in/out, with all sorts of weaponry WOULD HAVE.

Even so, one would think an extremely thorough search of all the TV equipment would have been done before the TV people were allowed anywhere near the place. And I don't think they would have missed something like those zats or the guns they obviously had. And again, I don't think having only two airmen along as guards was enough for something like that. They were taken out far too easily. In my opinion, that whole thing was handled incredibly sloppily.

That i agree with.. BUT perhaps the powers that be who were to do so (kinsey) paid off the guards.

How realistic could it possibly be for a space vehicle to open its bay doors and not have everything sucked out especially with lack of oxygen. Simmons was pulled out as if he were on an aircraft at 20,000 feet instead of a space vehicle in orbit.

Not a great episode. Besides the fact that it's just a bit dull, it's also one of the most preposterous things Stargate has ever done. The sudden appearance of Prometheus, a giant ship, is stretching believability too far. They would have had to have spent years and years on it (Carter mentions something about the idea beginning in 1978, but her subsequent line with Jonas makes it sound like she's just bull****ting the reporters).

Carter knows almost everything about the ship by the looks of things, but doesn't appear to have been particularly involved in the project. Even more unbelievable, Jonas also has a detailed understanding of the ships systems. When did either of them find the time for this between all their SG-1 adventures?!

As mentioned above, the ease at which the camera crew take over the "most secure facility on the planet" is ridiculous. Add to that a bunch of useless bad guys and you have the makings of a pretty weak episode.

I was not a fan of Stargate introducing Earth ships, what I enjoyed about Stargate was that it differed from Star Trek, and this was a big step in that direction. Also, Prometheus is a damn ugly ship design. At least the terrible Adrian Conrad is out of the picture, but it's a shame Simmonds had to go after so few appearances.

The miraculous apperance of the Asgard is also pretty silly. Loved O'Neill getting angry, though.

The ship bugs me. It's supposed to be able to fly in atmosphere, designed by human beings who are very used to aerodynamic designs, yet it looks like a lego model, all sharp edges. It's about as aerodynamic in appearance as a brick. Yes, I know, its engines mean it doesn't have to worry about atmosphere. But did it have to be ugly?

In some of her non-existent spare time, apparently Sam helped design and build the engines for the Prometheus, as well as assisting in the building of the thing. It was probably a few of her clones that were manufactured in order to use her many talents to their fullest - between being on SG1, going on missions, being a scientist, helping build space ships, apparently being on call 24/7 for anyone at the SGC who needs help.

I agree with Jack with his "did anyone bother to do a background check on these guys". They should also have inspected every bit of camera equipment the TV crew brought with them, but nothing was said about any of that. They should also have frisked each person from the TV station that was going to see the Prometheus. Maybe a bit of overkill, but it would be understandable given it was a TV crew with a reporter highly motivated to get that kind of information to the public, who would likely have gone to great lengths herself to obtain some secret information she would then broadcast (regardless of confidentiality agreements and the like).

I stuck a VHS ep in the machine...

    1. Now before going into this ep I knew what Prometheus was, my surprise that Donovan knew about Prometheus but knew zippo about the SGC.

    2. Was surprised that the producer guy was in on the raid.

    3. Don't think I've ever seen Jack more POd before or since.

    4. Those guys were possibly trying to make sure Sam wasn't armed or more likely hadn't read the Evil Overlord or henchman lists.

    5. OK, the Asgard ship showing up was a slight Dues ex Machina but it set up an awesome so they're forgiven.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Sure the security was lax, but I can see the AF getting complacent at times. This will make them sit up and take notice.

Great visual effect of the ship rising out of the ground!

    Great midseason finale.

Now, Earth has its own spaceship, unfortunately the Asgard need it now. I don't think that will end well.

    Spoiler:
It's a shame that this is the only 303-class that will ever be built

Tomorrow, those nasty Replicators are back, and now they're human.

I loved the 'clunky' look of the Prometheus, it had that look of experimentation about it, really showed it was Earth's first attempt at building a spaceship! It was my favourite ship in the Stargate universe until the Destiny came along. Even got to play around on the set and sit in the captain's chair, so it's always great to see the Prometheus again on screen after that fun experience!

Prometheus was just another example of Earth's early attempts at well, being out there in space! This is what I liked about early Stargate, they had to work a bit harder, putting stuff together with a bit of a hit and miss approach.

That's why I like this episode, they went for it big time with the X303, not expecting it to be of use in the near future but they were learning. Great idea for the villainous Simmons to use the Goa'uld to finish the work and get his just deserts for trying to get one up on the Goa'uld before it did it to him.

There were some moments that didn't really work, the fight sequence before the Goa'ulded Simmons was airocked was not well done at all. If it was meant to be slow motion, why did it look like a load to kids playing mock slow motion fighting?! Also agree about the security, or lack of it, it was ludicrously easy for the bad guys to get on board without being thoroughly searched, no way should they have been able to bring zats along with them!

Still, by ignoring these odd moments it is always an entertaining episode overall for me.
