So I was lookign around my local geek store while my friends were searching for the new ShadowRun ediiton. I spotted something that immediatly caught my full attention, the Stargate SG-1 Role Playign Game Core Rule Book.
For thsoe who might not know what a real RPG is, think Dungeons and Dragons in the Stargate univers. You create a character based on several Ability, Skills, and Feat scores. Then you play(usualy with several people) a campaign created from the Game Master(the guy who runs and controls everything). You bascily live that character in that world.
I didn't get much time to look through it, but what I did see was interesting. Nearly the first 50 pages seemed to be backgroudn on the SGC and the Stargate universe, so even those who aren't particularly fans of SG-1 can get the background. There are military positions(Navy SEALS, Army Rangers, etc.) all of which have small influence on basic skills(Athletics, Knowledge, Treat Injury, so fourth). Then there is Military rank which plays a role on what equipment you can have and how much money you can get. Lastly is the character classes. This is the core of a character, and depending on what class you take determines what she will be good at(combat, diplomacy, skills, etc.). Some classes were Scientist, Soldier, and Archeaologist. They had some cool prestiege classes(the SG-1 team are all prestiege calsses, O'Niel is a Officer, Sam is a Brainiac or something, and Jackson was a Specialist, I think). All the classes have special abilities, like Sam's class has an ability called "Know-it-All" in which she gets HUGE bonuses to certain activities on a daily basis, like making a bomb out of a radio or something. Of course they have the attributes for the Go'uld and Jaffa. The firearms seemed pretty good, a little bit lacking in numbers, perhapes, but more weapons can be made easily. As far as I could tell, it was d20 based.
The book cost $50, pricey for the average Core Rule book. I'll have to take a few more looks at it to see if its any good. Anyone else seen this or possibly palyed and tested it out?
