Do you think the Ancient Aliance was more a Federation of planets or United Nations

I was wondering what you guys thought of the ancient aliance. do you think the evidence so far points out to more of a federation of planets type deal. It seemed in the first episode where we met the ancient aliance it points out to a more of a federation of planets type deal. The guy said tarturus world was a place where they shared knowledge for the benefit of all.

I believe that they should do something like that now with all of the advanced/semi advanced races.

Its an alliance. They'd send a rep. or to and then talk things over. Thats about it.

I think it's just an alliance of the 4 most powerful races in the galaxy/galaxies. They come together, share knowledge and so on.

I think the ancient hologram chick Melia explained it best in Rising.

What exactly is the difference between the UFP and the UN (aside from the fact that one is fictitious and set in the future)? It seems to me that the UFP was based on the UN model from the very beginning, right down to the ripped-off flag design.

The UN doesn't really have any power, only the power that the member states provide. The UFP, on the other hand, has the power to supercede it's member states because it provides all the systems and assets it needs to do so.

If the UN decided to create it's own military, things would be different.

Not like a federation of planets. It's just an alliance. Like the alliance between the Klingons and the UFP.

I'm sure that the UN would LOVE to create its own military (beyond the heavily militarized "peacekeepers"), but it currently lacks the funding to do it (one reason why the UN is constantly pushing for global taxation rights). From my perspective, the only difference between the UFP and UN is a matter of degree. Their ambitions are disturbingly similar.
