They'd run out of plots to use him in (or they thought they had).

Indeed, plus the team can't die so it has to be the red-shirt of the week. And in this case Lantesh drew the short straw.

        That's a Star Trek reference.

My Star-Trek friends trained me well, and so did Picard and Janeway.

At this point, it's generic. Red shirt means disposable character in all of SF these days.

I (my real surname) was a red shirt in a Wen Spencer novel.

I keep meaning to ask this but it always slips my mind.

The Jaffa armour offers no protection at all against the SG teams bullets.

Is it not actually metal or are the soldiers using using armour piecing rounds?

I'm guessing it is the later (because I recall the armour deflecting bullets in early episodes), but I don't remember any mention of armour piercing bullets.

IIRC it was later on in S2 or so they switched to AP rounds.

Early on they use HK MP5s which, as I recall, fire 9mm (pistol) rounds. They move to FN P90s, which fire 5.7x28mm, in The First Ones (4x08).

In ghe next episode Carter actually mentions that they shoot armour piecing bullets.

They didn't seem to have problem killing Jaffa in Season One. What kind of bullets were being used then?

                      EDIT:

Are the first ones capable of piecing armour?

Not our armour, particularly. That being said, I wouldn't think Jaffa armour was designed with bullets in mind.

Perhaps the angle of impact was important - like landing a plane on water. So in the beginning it was sheer luck if one of the bullets went through - just a thought.

Strong episode. Sad to see Elliot go already, they built him up and knocked him down rather quickly. I guess off-screen one of the other recruits from Proving Ground will replace him though

As much as I hate Simmons, his point from The Fifth Man had merit in this episode: Daniel's emotions and feelings sometimes affect his actions. And it was even his feelings for Sarah that got in the way here. But maybe it was for the better, because who knows what would have happened if he had used the poison. Would defeating Anubis been poosible? Easier? Harder? We certainly wouldn't have had Ba'al over the next several years, he was an important part of Reckoning.

The Tok'ra part wasn't as interesting for me, but I loved Daniel, Sarah/Osiris and Yu and getting a bit of behind the scenes of Goa'uld system lords.

I just finished watching Summit and Last Stand. I think they are a couple of good episodes, but I don't feel that Lt. Elliott got justice. The poor guy was just got used. I wish they just let Lantesh die with Martouf, but maybe the writers felt that Sam needed forgiveness to receive some closer? I liked Martouf, so sad he is gone.

It was interesting meeting the systems lords, even though they have weird eating habits.

Also, the ending didn't quite feel finished. Other than that, I liked it.
