He just meant heterosexual relationships - hence his remark about my ships that occasionally sail out into open water.

Err... I am perfectly capable of separating fiction from reality. However, characters such as O'Neill and Carter are still being portrayed by actual people and when I'm reading a fanfic I will still see these people acting out whatever is written in that fic.

I didn't deny that. We see it with an 'inner eye' or 'vivid imagination' - but we don't have to be imprinted by it - that's my point. And if you or sb don't like fanfic - don't read it.

I don't have trouble separating the actors from the characters they play. When I read fan fiction, I see the characters, but they aren't the actors. Which is why ship doesn't bother me (although I rarely read for ship, since I don't see the characters that way).

This may also be why I rarely like Stargate/MacGyver crossovers. Jack and Mac would hate each other (each stands for something the other abhors); why would I want to read a story featuring that kind of relationship?

I've always felt that was a great demonstration of how good an actor RDA really is, that he could create two such loved characters who were such different people.

Yes, on the one hand the charming boy with many, many talents (Robin-Hood-type) and on the other hand the tough military guy saving the world again and again.
Wouldn't have worked the other way round as far as age is concerned. IMO.

A slightly dark episode with all the suicides and death, it got increasingly tense towards the end and paid off tragically well. The zatarak device was kind of finicky/unreliable, I bet that disappeared along with Anise after this episode. I don't think we ever see SGC checking incoming visitors for reetous, metamorphic aliens or mind controlled people in the future.. unless it's done covertly somehow.
